Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies - For Liquid Metal we would Slime!

I'm so jeaolus of you all.
I live in a smalltown and the gamestop near me isn't having it.
The nearest Best Buy and GS with this event are like 4hrs from where I live.
To far to get tags and swag.

I want some swag so bad. A poster for m wall or something.
If anyone gets any extra they don't want Please PM me.
thx a bunch

Went to the Gamestop in Lancaster, PA and got the Zoma map and about 10-15 tags. We were deleting and retagging in the hope it would count them a second time. :) Unfortunately I don't think it worked. I also accidently deleted a guest while doing this and they left before I could tag them again. The Nintendo rep said she was surprised at how busy it got in the store. It was interesting listening to the Nintendo rep talk about her job and the jobs off Sony and MS reps. Sounded like an interesting gig.

Got home and tried the Zoma map. Thought it would be some simple map (Lv.1 afterall). It isn't a normal grotto, just Zoma the boss on the first floor. I was sadly mistaken. Zoma started off by one hitting my highest HP party member for 529 damage. Just googled to discover he was the main boss from DQIII. Glad I went to the bank beforehand.

Will probably going to the Reading/Wyomissing Bestbuy event next week. Hope it will be more people, but the GS guys and the Nintendo rep did a great job. They gave out a poster, sticker sheet (quality sticker sheet I should add), and t-shirts. Got everything but a t-shirt. GS employee only had one left and asked me with a staight face whether I could fit into a medium. I am 5'9" maybe 5'10" and weight 230ish. I was like, well I am trying to lose weight, haha. Luckily a kid came in to claim the shirt about 30 minutes later. Not sure what to do with the poster and stickers. I like shwag, but am not much of a collector and have no place to display, it tends to go in a box and stored in the closet. Bought the DQIX strategy guide while I was there as well. Trying not to spend money lately, but also want to show my support for the event.

Thought about putting a meet-up on craigslist. Wish I had some conventions near me. Tycho from Penny-Arcade got 130 guests while at San Diego Comic-Con.

I didn't get a poster, I didn't even know there were any. I got there before the event and the GS clerk gave me a t-shirt and stickers, but no poster.

As for the maps, this won't be your last chance to get them, they'll come out through the DQVC eventually.

BTW, I am definitely amused by the fact that they decided to give out a legacy boss map. I mean it's awesome, but anyone not in the endgame already is likely getting their ass handed to them right now. I've already got Zoma up to level 17, he seems easier than the ones I'd already unlocked.

Had a surprisingly good time at my store this afternoon--easily got 30+ tags, a few maps, and a DQ poster. The players there were surprisingly friendly, a cut above some gamer crowds I've encountered (say, the Halo lines : P )... I'll definitely be hitting up Best Buy next week.
Went to the tag event in Roseville, MN and got 23 tags and one of the metal slime maps. Not too many people were giving out maps though. Ate lunch at the mall and actually got a tag there too! The parking lot and the strip mall were all tore up.

Was surprised to see them giving out T-shirts, stickers, a DS Lanyard, a cleaning cloth, and a poster. I wasn't expecting that. I managed to get everything but the T-Shirt, but didn't get there soon enough to get a T-shirt. I wanted to do some multiplayer, but everybody left quick.

Hopefully if I get to Best Buy soon enough next week, I'll be able to score a T-shirt.

I wish I would've known, otherwise I'd have gotten you one. Will you go to the other events? I admit, the give aways were a surprise to me.

Another surprise was the age of people there. Most of them were in their late 20-early 30s, although there were a few kids with their parents too.
Nice, I was at the Roseville event as well. Did you get a character named Ralador in your Inn? If so, I was giving out a level 86 map that has some S ranked chests. And I know Dustin was giving out the Metal King Slime map, with King Slimes on the 11th floor of the Grotto. By the way, I ended up with 38 tags, but I think I had 6 or so before the event.

I also sadly missed out on a shirt; they had opened the last bag with a shirt in it when I walked through the door around 1 P.M.

Yep, I got both of those maps. I was giving out a lvl 12 map that had lots of goodybags for farming gold. We should try to get a MN group together to play multi-player. I live near Coon Rapids. Are you going to Best Buy at MoA next week?

Oh, you must be the other guy who tried to price match Toys R' Us at that Coon Rapids Best Buy, lol. I was the guy who contacted corporate after being turned down by the manager.

Anyway, there's a large thread on gamefaqs for Twin Cities players. On the last page, I was talking with another guy about meeting at the Riverdale Caribou for some multiplayer, so the more players that show up, the better. We haven't really set a time or a date yet though. Also, you can check out the facebook group I posted earlier, but it's not as active.

As for the MoA event, I am sort of undecided now since I've maxed out my Inn. I may take the North Star to Target Field and then the Hiawatha to MoA since there is no Twins Game that day, so the train shouldn't be as packed. And maybe I will be able to score a slime shirt since I was unable to today.

Same. I'd almost rather have the poster than the shirt. Actually, I got the last shirt and it was a medium. It just barely fits me (I'm 6'3" and 180), but my wife can always wear it.

Got back a while ago; the Gamestop here had the poster, shirt, an NDS water bottle, and stickers.

I got a medium in the shirt because they only had it left. If I workout over the next year, maybe I can fit into it come summer time. :3

I got about six tags...and I don't know who it was, because their character name is all messed up; I wonder if it's imported copy of the game or something.

Which gives me some hope - two of the maps I got (the only two, aside from the map the rep gave out) are an 86 and 87. I'm seriously hoping one of them is a Metal King Slime map, except It'll be a while until I find out. I just got to the point of being able to switch jobs. xD

If you're careful, patient, and have the ranger skill vanish, you should be able to get there whenever you want. Some of the monsters on the lowest levels are a real pain to fight even for me at level 93 though, so be warned.

I had a great time at mine. I didn't intend to stay for too long, but I ended up with 51 tags (& the accolade for getting 50) and a poster. Met some cool people. One of them waited since 7am to get Yuji Horii's autograph at the Nintendo Store event. When the GS event was almost over we grabbed some food and quested for a bit in the park across the street.

One woman came in at one point asking for help, her boyfriend was undergoing cancer treatment in the hospital, and she wanted to get tags for him but had no idea what to do. I helped her get 10 or so tags before she left, but as I was driving home I realized I never checked to see if she got the Zoma map. I'd feel awful if she didn't. Now that I'm thinking about it, I should've had her grab a poster from the Nintendo rep too. Her boyfriend was obviously a big fan, when she saw the slimes on the screen she said "Oh, that's his wallpaper!"

I got about 80 tags at the San Jose Gamestop, probably about half of them were unique. Really disappointed I missed the shirts, but at least I got my inn fully upgraded.

My story of today's GS event Was filled with much more fail.
Even though they claimed to be doing the event and had shirts, posters, and stickers, they did not actually receive the actual cartridge. Did manage to tag 2 other people before I left though, and had tasty lunch on the way out, so not all was lost. ;-)

Yeah, there Was only two other guests to that event. (Salinas, Ca) though I did leave about 15min into it (stupid Work)

Will have to find the closest best buy event for next weekend.

The map given away at Best Buy is a reward for completing quest 167 for anyone wondering. It will be a DLC quest down the road; I think the quests given this Friday were 123 & 124, so it's a ways to go yet.

also, if the 86 is called "emerald world of gloom" then you have a map that's great for farming the best weapons.

i've been using it.
it's pretty sick the way japanese people figured it out!

Hey, my friend and I went to the event to, and may be the one of the guys who left early. If you're in the Lancaster area I'd be happy to hit Borders or someplace sometime to tag again. Blau and Churu are the characters if you know which you deleted.

Went to the Gamestop in Brooklyn. Grabbed a poster, and had no idea about the shirts, water bottles, etc.
Got there early and tagged 3 people only.
I'll be going to the Best Buy event in Manhattan. Hopefully they'll have goodies to give out.
Maybe I'll see some CAGs there.

wow thats really impressive. One of the guy was thinking about driving down there

Wow, I definitely regret going early now. No tags for me. Oh well, I've found plenty of awesome maps on my own.

Speaking of which, I was doing "one last grotto" before putting the game down for the night, and what should drop but Invincible Armor? (The base for the best armor in the game). Definitely the most exciting thing I've had drop (between chests and bosses the other exciting stuff that's dropped so far is Metal Slime Spear, Invincible Trousers, and Tropotoga). It makes me glad I didn't do any of the tricks or anything to get drops, nothing beats the exhilaration of finding something awesome yourself. :D
wow thats really impressive. One of the guy was thinking about driving down there
The Gamestop in San Jose is freaking huge, so I definitely am not surprised. Probably one of the biggest Gamestops in the Bay Area.

Hmmm.. I'll have to check out the gamefaqs page.

I might go there to get some more maps. I'd also like to score a T-shirt. Although I ordered one on ebay that was from the Comic con. LoL

I haven't rode the light rail yet and it would be a good excuse to do so.

I did manage to make it up to one of the two in this area. I got a total of 4 tags and a poster and sticker sheet but no T-shirt. They said they had very few and they were gone pretty quickly. I'm guessing the key was to be there when it started at 1pm. I got there around 2:30 so there were just a few stragglers. I'm not sure I got any maps beyond the NOA one, though. So, all in all, a pretty fair waste of time but it was interesting to check it out. The store was very busy and crowded when I went in but there were only 3 other guys doing DQ stuff and one more that came in over the next 10 minutes. I had 3 hungry children with me so I couldn't stay any longer. I need to rework my greeting on my character if I decide to go to the Best Buy event next weekend as I think I made mine pretty lame just to check out tagging when I was at the airport the other day . If I go next week, I'll definitely be getting there when it starts. The problem is that it is 30 miles away.

I got a poster, some stickers, and a tshirt, they only had a few shirts and they were only small and large. I got a large shirt, it's a little big but I'm sure the small would be too small.
At first there were only two other people there. I stuck around for a little while and then decided to hit the other Gamestop in town that was doing this and got about 6 people there. Then I left and had some time to kill before going to a movie so I hit the first gamestop again and there were a bunch of people there that time. I ended up getting 23 tags in all and 8 maps. I have next Saturday off from work so I'll try to hit the BestBuy for that event.

Forgot to mention:

- I got Rick Roll'd by some tagger's profile
- I got Masayuki's map, another KMS map, as well as 4 legacy maps (
Zoma, Malroth, Nokturnus, and Baramos
)
- Ran into a Martial Artist +2. That was cool.
- Strangely I tagged a bunch of adults, but like 7 10-year olds. No 9 or 11 year olds.... all 10. Weird.

In that case I'm glad I didn't go, I don't want to get saddled with stuff which made its way over from Japan. I wouldn't mind the legacy bosses I guess, since I'll get those eventually naturally, but I have no desire to get Masayuki, it would feel like it made the game too easy for me. I have way more fun playing with maps I earned myself, finding a great one is so much more enjoyable (to me) if its a surprise. That's why I'm super glad this is a single player game, if it were online people getting all these extra maps and things could break the game quickly.*

Hit Level 99 Gladiator last night. I'm very hesitant to Revocate him at this point since he's my primary damage dealer, and I'd cripple myself a lot bouncing him back down to Level 1. I think what I'll do is switch him over to Warrior, build that up to 99, and then use that as my Revocation class. Has anyone tried it yet?

*Edit: I know that's the point of tag mode. I guess it's just more rewarding for me if it's something I accomplished myself, but to each their own.

Just beat the final boss last night and thought I would die but my team pulled together in the end. Now on to after quest stuff. Gonna build some better weapons and armor then It's treasure hunting time.

My DL today.Seems it works for some and not others. Weird.

Question: What's a fisticuff? Where do I find them?
Also anyone know why the Staff master won't give me the 100 quest.
He just whines about his girl and asks why I'm hapi.
What's up with that?

It worked just fine for me.

I tried the Zoma dungeon last night.

Yeah, I'm not going to be trying that boss again for a LONG time.

EDIT: I wonder if I should go to that Wii Competition event near me to see if any DQ9 players are there.

So I beat the final boss last night.
I blew 3 the last three without anyone dying.
My team was at Lv 50 with lots of skills mixed in.

Now I'm fighting
the real Lleviathan
and DAMN.
The guy is crazy strong. I'm okay if I can Multiheal every time but the dude is faster then my Priest. I'm gonna attach a the Agility Ring since I don't have the Meteorite Bracer yet.

This guy is crazy strong but I'm bout to go Level up my Priest and Mage so the can learn Defending Champion. I hate when he does the that One Hit Killer and takes out my Mage or Preist. I'm gonna train some more then we're coming back for him.

Mushrooms for alchemy, you can find easy ones southeast of stoneway in a brown patch. get about 2 or 3 each.

I'm really really slow in the game compared to all of you. I'm barely half way, but have a:

25 Army
32 Mage
32 Priest
25 Ranger

I've been finding alot more weapons to alchemize into better ones. Picked up a Valkyrie sword and alchemed it twice over to get the Inferno blade which pretty much jumps my attacks for over >100, and he just learned gigaslash.

Ranger finally got starlight rang attack, and now groups aren't a problem anymore.

Travel by ship kinda is slow, especially to get items needed.

Does anyone know if porting in and out of towns refresh the items or would a save work better, because I've been porting in and out and hardly ever get any till I hit a town or save.

This is by far my most favorite RPG for the DS... possibly the best I've played yet. Though I have tons in my backlog yet :D

I don't think you're too low a level or anything. You have two strategies available that would probably work.

1. buying gold bracers and alchemizing them up to Meteorite Bracers. Its pretty easy to do.
2. Compensate for the speed disadvantage by spamming multiheal from the start of the battle. Every round your priest will act after the boss and heal any party members that took damage.

I feel the same way to a certain extent, but you don't have to keep the map. You can throw away any map you have. Also, some people there were going through the map - even if you can get to the MKS, you can't always beat them.
thx a bunch

I meant the fisticuffs, u know like the skills that they can learn.
What are those.
Using your hands (unequipped)

Anyone here using axes? Or boomerangs? I turned my thief into a ranger and went up to level 14 or so, but the ranger just seems to kind of suck. I didn't have a boomerang and the one in the store had very little attack power, so he is using a bow. Just wondering if it's worth even bothering trying to get a boomerang and put skill points into the boomerang skill. (And if not, why even bother with a ranger - he can't wear crap for armor). Although if I don't go ranger I'm not sure what to turn my thief into; now that he's got most of the thief skills, I kind of want a better class for him.

I can't decide whether to go for axes or swords for my gladiator. I already have my main guy maxed on swords so I thought axes might be a good change of pace. I'm just worried about wasting points into a weapon that ends up kind of sucking. (I got burned by going clubs in DQ8).

Axes aren't bad and it's one of the two weapon types that have a crit or miss skill that's great for post-game grinding on Liquid Metal Slimes, Metal King Slimes, or Platinum Jewel Slime (I think is its name). Just be careful if you ever use the move that damages the user as I've killed myself several times over for shits and giggles.

Sword is pretty good too. I can use my gladiator to do thousands of damage with either weapon skill using tension and attack up. Could do even more with defense down.

Regardless, I have both swords and axes on my gladiator with swords and spears on my paladin.

I have my Ranger equipped with an axe, as well as my Sage trained all the way up with them for Hatchet Man. Both my Paladin and Gladiator have spears for Thunder Thrust, though the Gladiator's main is still the sword. The crit or miss skills are really the only efficient way to hunt MKS and PKJs, since Metal Slash or Metalicker just don't do enough damage.
I tried the Zoma dungeon last night.

Yeah, same here. I have level 19-20 characters with about 100 HP and that dude was hitting for like 600. What is the significance of the levels for the maps? Because that one is called "level 1" but clearly that has no meaning.

I got another map from a tag though that looks doable. I got wiped out by the boss on that one but at least I lasted several rounds before dying. He had one attack that got all my characters for 60-70. Without having a group healing spell it was pretty tough to recover from that. So I might just wait a bit and come back to that one.

Is there any significance to sending guests to the Royal Suites? I sent the NOA1 guy up there just for kicks.

Also, I was looking at some quest list and I have a bunch that have ???? next to them. What is that about? It seems those showed up once I connected to the DQVC but I'm not sure. Also, are there exclusive items from DQVC? I farmed money for a while to get the 8000 to get the wrap-around shades. They were so much better than any equipment I had and they are 3-star in rarity (and I'd never seen anything over 1 to that point). Are these just things that I'll see/find later, or are they exclusive to the online store? There's also a summer dress I think, though that wasmn't as great stat-wise.
Anyone here using axes? Or boomerangs?

I have a 25 Ranger that has the Starlight skill for the rangs. I only have the Razerwing which is 50, but once I get to Wormwood Creek, which seems I can sail over there, I can alchemize the Banefire after ALOT of items and that one is ranked at attack 80.

Right now with the Razerwing and my level I'm at Gleeba and can do 100+ to all. It's a great ALL skill when there doesn't seem to be alot of them out there, besides my Mage.

Boom + Starlight = everything dead, and anyone standing like gold golems, will get wacked with my Fire Blade 25 Arm.
Yeah, same here. I have level 19-20 characters with about 100 HP and that dude was hitting for like 600. What is the significance of the levels for the maps? Because that one is called "level 1" but clearly that has no meaning.

It's a Legacy Boss level. The Level 1 is the bosses' level. After you beat him you have the option of giving him the experience from the battle, in which case he goes up to level 2. Increasing the level of Legacy Bosses makes them more difficult, but also changes what they drop and how often.
