Ah, so it just comes automatically from leveling and isn't selectable? That gets confisuing then since there might be other skills I want to spread around but without seeing them in the skill list it is hard to know what's out there. I'm trying to stay away from FAQs and lists...

Just depends on personal preference. I switched my main guy to armamentalist and I love it. He still does good damage and can use swords but now also has a lot of good buff and debuff spells. And I tried ranger for a little while and hated that class.

Ranger has its uses. They have the highest deftness in the game, so they're perfectly suited to being a primary thief which can also do a bit of damage. They're also good for metal grinding since they can use axes (in fact they're the only class that can do so natively). I've got one in my party right now in the endgame.

I discovered an absurd combo last night. I currently have a well-skilled (high strength, speed) armamentalist using boomerangs. He was level 20 at the time of this testing. His normal weapon attack deals about 100 to the first enemy.
turn one, egg on armamentalist, armamentalist uses double up. tension of 5
turn two, egg on armamentalist, armamentalist uses psych up. tension of 50
turn three, psych up with armamentalist - if you're lucky, tension of 100
turn four, firebird throw for 2000 damage against a grotto boss (i think I did it on both Equinox and the dragon thing)
Firebird throw has some absurd potential..I think it hits 7 or 8 times, and the tensions sticks for every hit. I was goofing around when I tried it, and was amazed when it worked.

When you scare them, you have to kill them before their turn where it says "Scarewolf B is too scared to act!" For that I had two chars using War Cry and my slower chars attacking. So if they recovered, they would get War Cryed again. Ideally you would have the wolves have their turn, then your fastest guys War Cry, then your slowest guys attack.

Probably Vanish, the skill that causes enemies on the screen to not aggressively charge you anymore.

YEAH, that was it - apparently helps you navigate quickly down to metal slime levels in grottos and such? Sounds useful, though I'm not sure how much grinding I plan to do. Plus I don't have any of those maps yet.

There are too many variables to compare the two things, I think. I've only got a 40 or 50 damage boomerang, for one thing.. Character levels are also another unknown.
I think the only good way to test this would be for your gladiator to use the boomerang skill under the same conditions as your 4k hit. I don't suppose anyone has a character with maxed swords, maxed boomerangs, and a high level gladiator that could see what does more damage?

Armamentalists can't use boomerangs. I just got omnivocational boomerang master. I've been trying to figure out which class would be best with a boomerang. I originally thought that Gladiator would be amazing with a boomerang, but the limited MP pool makes the abilities kind of useless. Mage was surprisingly fun.. The attack damage was low, but the high MP was nice. Putting an AI mage into show no mercy, and seeing them cast starburst throw repeatedly over the mage spells... it hit somewhat hard.. maybe i'll try that one again some time.

There are too many variables to compare the two things, I think. I've only got a 40 or 50 damage boomerang, for one thing.. Character levels are also another unknown.

As soon as you can get to the bad cave, you can level up classes from 1 to 20 in like 30 minutes off of the metal medleys. you could shift classes for a few levels to get the skill points to do a lot of fun stuff. It sounds like you've stuck to one class forever, so far.

I didn't get S ranked monsters until lots and lots of grinding, I think my first map which had them was level 98. Definitely gotten some awesome stuff out of those chests though, got the top Boomarang and another of the best armor tonight.
I've successfully brought all characters up to 99, just grinding PKJs right now to train up a second class each (all are currently above 70 in their second) before I start revocating.

Anyway, yeah, I'm on one class but that's cause I've only got my chars to level 24 or so. I just switched one to a Ranger and have him up to 10 alrwady (didn't take too long).
How much game is left after getting all the fyggs? I think I only have 2 more left.

It was a volcano map with 12 floors and Elusid waiting at the end.

You could also make Happy Hats, which do the same thing. As does Victorious Armor (for both MP and HP), though obviously that's a bit harder to acquire.

What's the earliest a skill can get maxed out level wise? As in not using any items and such. I ask, because my main character is a Minstrel and I want to max out swords with him as a Minstrel, but would also like to switch out before too much longer. He's at level 31 and has 72 points in swords.

These bosses don't drop crap.
That's 3 Dragontail whips and one Miracle Sword which I had 2 Ubers already.
Im still a Minstrel cause he's really strong and I know when I change him he wont be able to do 400+ damage anymore.
May make him a Gladitor or Paladin but don't know which.
Any ideas? I also like him for Egg On bc i can get my Martial Artist to 100 Tension in 2 turns with my Mage's Oomph and Fire Fource he does like 3000 damge. great for bosses.

Very little of the elite equipment in the game is dropped from bosses, most of it will come from blue chests on A and S ranked floors. Not that I haven't gotten some of the top stuff from bosses, but far more has come from chests.

at least when Sir Sanguinus comes Ill have some tricks for him since he's a Zombie and my Priest and Martial Artist know Deliverence for added damage and someone can block Zombie attacks.

Because the Hero has Egg On, I'm thinking of making mine a Spear Paladin to use in conjunction with an Axe Gladiator. With Egg On, I can get the Axe Glad's tension pretty high pretty quickly and do some damage with the more damage-oriented class. I intend to use a Cover-like attack (I'm not too far into Shields yet...or have access to the Paladin) to keep the other party members safer while getting tension up.
Though...does Tension work through all four hits of a Multithrust? Because if that's the case, maybe you could Egg On the Psyche Up-using Spearie and use Multithrust for gobs and gobs of damage.
Also: I'm thinking of giving my Mage and Priest both Wands to keep their MP usable. The Priest will definitely have it, because I like having mana with which to spend reckless on healing - the mage, I'm not sure. My mage is crazy strong. I maxed out both vocations for Mage and Sage and she's a Magical Might machine. She has a wand but even with long boss battles she's never run out of MP, which she has like like 380. My Priest is a healer that does great, but when everyone is healed and don't need buffing he can do some great damage himself.. I maxed out his vocation next is Sage and then switch then both to Sages.
I don't think anyone else besides the Minstrel can learn Egg On, or am I wrong?
Will check now.

Though I'm tempting to switch my Martial Artist to a Gladitor for the final skill 'Feel The Burn' where he raises tension will every hit. Sounds nice.

I've gotten along really well with my early post-game party: Warrior, Ranger, Sage, Armamentalist.
Eventually I might have to switch my Ranger to something else since he's got Boomerangs maxed out, but his speed is amazing, so I may just worry about getting him a better weapon and perhaps train him up in some of the other classes for strength boosts. Or swap back to his original MA.
Working on the level 40 Luminary quest - not sure what the specific requirements are, but I guess the Luminary has to be the one who deals the killing blow, which is where Disco Stew comes in. So awesome. But I'll be out of MP by the time I finish the quest so I'll have to leave this grotto for another day, again.
My game clock is up to 112 hours now, so I've almost spent as much time in the post-game as I did beating the game. But I think the first 58 was far more entertaining. The last 54 has been filled with mostly tedious quests and grotto-grinding which is great for keeping me occupied, but not exactly "fun".

I believe you get 100 points somewhere around level 38. Somewhere before level 40 though (since you don't get any points for that one). You'll be getting 6 points per level pretty soon if you haven't already.
Eventually I might have to switch my Ranger to something else since he's got Boomerangs maxed out, but his speed is amazing, so I may just worry about getting him a better weapon and perhaps train him up in some of the other classes for strength boosts. Or swap back to his original MA.
Working on the level 40 Luminary quest - not sure what the specific requirements are, but I guess the Luminary has to be the one who deals the killing blow, which is where Disco Stew comes in. So awesome. But I'll be out of MP by the time I finish the quest so I'll have to leave this grotto for another day, again.

Just switch him to thief or something for a few levels (you can get to level 14 really fast) to get easy skill points, then switch him to whatever vocation you want long term. One of my guys has level 12 in every vocation just to get a ton of skill points.

I think bosses tend to drop the more rare armor? I haven't found good armor in a chest yet, except for the time I did Kawasaki and got myself a full set of Metal Slime armor. Other than that the best I found was like, an iron mask.

We have the same party going on. I'm rocking a Ranger with an Axe too, but went with Spears for my Mage.
I never maxed out swords for my hero as a minstrel or a gladiator because I figured it was a waste of 12 skill points. He is already in a vocation that allows swords.

My base party is the same as well, except I have my Sage trained up in Axes for Metal Hunting. My Gladiator also uses spears for the same purpose.
Though currently I'm training up everyone to a second high-level class before I start revocating (they're all 99 in their main class) so at present my Gladiator is a Paladin, my Paladin is a Gladiator, my Ranger is a Thief and my Sage is a Priest.

My gladiator is using axes and I thought it would be good for metal hunting, but gladiators have so few MP that she can only use the crit skill like twice How did you get around that? Just more skill point grinding to get the MP+ skills from other vocations?

Off the top of my head, Enlightenment (A Sage-only Tree) had +60MP. Also Mage Waters or whatever they're called are fairly cheap.

My Gladiator is wearing Victorious Armor, which regenerated MP as you walk around.
Granted, that's not exactly an easy thing to stumble across, so I'd recommend a Goddess Ring maybe?

actually, the MP bonus in a tree stacks, so when you finish with the Sage tree you'll get +80 MP. =)
i love the bonuses. it took me forever to get luminary so when i class changed them back to level 1 it was cool to see my level 1 luminary having 200 hp. haha.

Ok, can someone explain the classes/skills and what you keep when you upgrade. I had been hesitant to switch because I thought the only thing you kept were skills. But I see people talking about keeping the stat bonuses. But when I went from level 20 or so Minstrel to a new Ranger, it seemed like I had nothing except the skills I learned (some of which were useless since I was no longer doing swords). If you get to the end of a class-specific upgrade path do you keep attribute boosts from that, or do you keep all the ones you get along the way? Or none (which is what I thought at first)?

Technically everything in a tree transfers over but not class gained skills and abilities (Those are the ones gained via levels). However weapon skills aren't usable unless you have the weapon equipped on another class which requires either maxing out the skill or switching to a class that has it. As for each vocations specific tree that they have which gives attributes like +Strength or +HP/MP, those will transfer over too. Which means you can technically have a level 1 with something like 200 HP.

OK, I did not think this would happen. That makes class switching much easier, because you can always be adding to your base stats even if you switch back later. It sure didn't seem like anything carried over when I did it, but maybe I just hadn't gotten that much in my base class yet.

You could make a spirit bracer. That adds + 30 to MP. In the short term, that would be an effective stop-gap till you banked enough skill points to get the mage, sage, or priest MP bonuses.

Yeah, but you can switch to other weapons during a battle (something I do quite often), so I assume the intent there is that you don't forget what other skills you have access to. To me its worth the seconds.
