Figured since I couldn't find a topic about this game, I would start one. Who else is buying this the 17th? I preordered it at play n trade. Can't wait for this game, I've tried playing it on well you know, but it would never work.

I really enjoyed DQIV. Even though I didn't finish it, it was a fun ride while I played. I'm rather a fan of the monster implementation system. Although it won't be as fleshed out as the Dragon Warrior Monsters and Pokemon games, it'll be interesting to see monster-raising in its infancy.

Edit: Speaking of monster-raising, did the Monster Rancher series die over here?

i had a 10 buck ebgame coupon so it knocked the price down to

32 shipped...

i doubt the game will fall under 30 so might as well grab it.

Depends on what happens with

MY WORLD MY WAY... but hopefully i will have that beat by the time this game comes (probally have it in hand around the 23 to 26 of Feb
Me. Supposedly they put Party Talk in this one for the US release, so I'm in at launch. ;)
Where'd you hear this?

I can't pick up at launch, although I really want to. I'm going to play through chrono trigger/Final Fantasy IV/ Final Fantasy CCROF and see if an Amazon deal comes up in a few months.
Where'd you hear this?
NeoGAF had pics of the English translation in one of the threads. Said pics included pictures of translated Party Talk. I don't have an account at NeoGAF so I can't search for it and link to it but.... yeah.

I'll be picking this up within a few weeks of its release. I like the idea of working some of the monsters in to the party. It sounds like a neat feature.

I'm almost done DQIV which is my first DQ game ever, so I'm pumped that I've gotten in to the series.

Good question! I'm wondering that too. I vaguely remember hearing way, way, way back when the DS was young that there was going to be a Monster Rancher game. Sadly, I've heard nothing since

I actually completed DQ IV which is one of the few DS games I played all last year. So I'm definitely in for this one (already preordered at GS). Not that I have time for it now .

Can't wait to get my hands on this game and already have it pre-ordered.

Too bad I'll probably end up beating it in about 20 hours over the course of 2 days just I did with DQ4.

I'm hoping DQ9 will be another 60 hour beast like DQ8 was, but that's highly doubtful.

Double those hours and you have my play time...

I'd consider 60 hours to be short for DQ IX. It took me 120 to beat DQ VIII - of course the last 30-40 was just doing the Dragovian stuff at the end (with a lot of grinding to handle one of the middle forms).

But DQ IV was just the right amount of time for me for a handheld RPG (30-40 hours). I really get tired of them when they drag on. I was having that problem with FF IV and stopped playing it.

Anyone know if Gamestop ships before the release date.. Says SHIPS ON 16th (though no mail on the 16th

was wondering when i could expect this in the mail (probally around the 23?

I know nothing of the DQ series other than you don't see your characters in battle and the games are kinda long. I'm planning on trying the series out, should I wait for this or just get DQIV? Is one more accessible than the other?

The one I was looking forward to the most was DQ5 because of the romance/wife aspect. I enjoyed but didn't love DQ4 so I worried about this one though. I hope it'll be good. I'll probably wait awhile before purchasing this one.

Have never really played much of the series outside of Dragon Warrior Monsters on the GBC. Might have to pick this one up.

Oh yeah, I got a call a few days ago saying it would be in GS for me to pick up. Now if I can only remember which GS I preordered at :whistle2:k...

(Just have to dig out the receipt ;)).

I am really hesitant to buy anything new these days when I keep finding near-mint used stuff at GS and get it super-cheap with their weekly coupons and Edge card. But I enjoyed the last one a ton so I think I'll splurge and go through with getting myself a sealed one of these too...

I could swear i played this on the NES i though dragon warrior 1 to 5 came out on the NES

did not they say this is the first time 5 ever came over here or is that part 6 (cause i dont ever recall seeing part 6)

So far the game is Great .... got it today off ebgames (next day shipping)

only problem is with around 3 more games coming from gamefly within the next 10 days i wonder how much time i will put into this

hope to have

Fire Elbem. ds Saturday
Ys book 1 and 2 Next saturday
Gallaxy quest next saturday

game seems to be hard as well..im trying to get to the castle early in the game my people are level 9 and still being wacked

No, this is the first time 5 came over here, and it was originally on the Sfam, 1-4 were the only NES DQs (although I believe all of those were remade on the SFam, 1-2 a straight port together, and 3 and 4 remade). After four the next DW we got over here was a good 7 or so years later with DW7 (sorry if I sound like a dick, don't mean to, just pointing out)
At the part where you pick the bride... still not sure who to pick yet. :O
oh shit you have to pick a bride!? I have a hard enough time picking a name:cry:

Must of been Part 3 and part 4 i was thinking about buying off a video store years ago, Then someone ripped them off and kept them

Love to see them put Dragon Quest 1 - 3 on a single Ds cart so 1 - 6 would be released on the ds

seems my FE game shipped from Tampa (BLEH) meaning i wont see it till Monday so seems i be spending all weekend on this game

I'll be getting this with my first paycheck - SF4 came first.

Loved DQ4 so i'm excited for 5. DQ4 DS was my first Dragon Quest game!

Well, I was somewhat reluctant to pick up my GS preorder only in that I have a hard time paying $40 for a DS game. But then I just found out Friday I have to travel next week for work, so I picked it up. I'll be spending 7+ hours on plane trips both Monday and Thursday plus Mon - Weds night in a hotel which means lots of DS playing time. This will be my main game - can't wait to get started!

What causes confusion is the Super Famicom games were done for the Playstation in Japan and intended for release over here. The DQV for the PS was even promoted on the back cover of one of the game manuals (GBC DQIII IIRC) but never released.

It was DQIV that was advertised, actually. DQV was remade for PS2.

Oh come on. If you don't pick Bianca you are heartless. I saved at that part though so that I can pick Debora next time =)

I went through and watched all the marriage scenes. I have a separate save at that part as well. Debora was hilarious but I decided she would be best served on a second playthrough. Flora/Nera was wayy too docile and fragile with her personality. fuck that. Bianca was the obvious choice. I liked how she was actually interested in adventuring with you and being a team player.

I'm nearing the end of the game. I don't want it to end so soon, I'm like 15 hours in. :(

The translated version I played on SFC emulator made it really obvious that you should pick Bianca. The few lines they added here with Flora / Nera actually liking you made it a little more palatable to choose her, though. I really had to laugh at Debora when she came outta nowhere but I heard that if you pick her she actually warms up to you and that she might be the best teammate. Family team ftw.
I'm almost done too. Makes me sad. It's just so good, and streamlining the presentation makes the game a lot faster than when I played it on SFC. I really think that this is the best story out of the entire DQ series.
the gamee is only 15 hours long? i thogught DQ games where 40-60 epic tales
7 and 8 are, 7 moreso than 8.

maybe 6. can't wait for that to come out.

the fast loading times and streamlined interface make the game quicker than its previous incarnations.

Beat the bonus boss today. Took me like 25 hours to beat the game including a few hours of casino runs, I think about 29 or so when all said and done. Did everything except beat the final pachisi board (tried like 20 times and kept losing) and get the final knick-knack.

Well, I definiely think I play these games slower than most people. I'm 12 in and just past the part in the spoiler, which I imagine is fairly early in the storyline. If you can tell me about where that is (half way, quarter way, etc, then I'll get a feel for how long this will take me).

I screwed up on that part and made a save before "the choice" but then I forgot which one it was and overwrote it afterwards :bomb:. I really wanted to see what happened with
Debora. Does she join your party afterwards or does Bianca still travel with you? I'm guessing you do get Debora as I keep finding armor and weapons that no one else can use like parasols and such which I figure must be for Debora. I kind of wish I had gone that way - she's more my type ;).

25 hours, and you did extra stuff!? Like I said above, I usually play pretty slowly through these games, and I'm 12 hours in and just a bit past the "choice" part. I thought I read in the IGN review that the game would take nearly 100 hours if you tried to do everything? That seemed excessive for a DS game, but I figured it would take way more than 25 anyway.

Question about Dominicus:
I want to get over to him as I have a ton of mini-medals plus the knick-knack guy says I need something from him before I can get into the knick-knack place. I see an island on the OUTSIDE of the world in the lower right corner. Is that where he is? How can I get there? I have the sea-worthy boat but I seem to be trapped within the inland sea area. I'd like to get over there now before I do anything else. I did just visit the desert queen place in the south and, I guess, am heading to the east now (Gotha or something?). Also, Dead of Knight - maybe that will help you pinpoint where I am in the game percentage-wise.

Don't worry Io, I'm at about the same speed. I just had to make the choice and I'm around 10-12 hours in as well. I'm rather enjoying the game, but I'm always afraid i'm going to be underpowered, but it seems like leveling up isn't a big deal as I haven't had any troubles yet.

That's complete bullshit. Maybe if you leveled every monster you could possibly get in the game to 100 and collected every single monster. But it's unnecessary and earns you nothing except a waste of time.

You are be able to get there. That is NOT where he is. Here is a pic of the map from the SNES verison, it is the same for this version.

Y on the map.

I would say you are around the halfway point, give or take a little.

I think they were talking about collecting the monsters Pokemon-style. That's why I was surprised that it seems to gain you nothing, really. I mean, all I want are some decent fighters with me and don't care at all to collect them all.

As for the map, thanks - I was looking at something called "Gigo's House" apparently - no idea what that is and don't need to know at this point I guess.

Still, I'd be pretty disappointed if this clocked in at only 25 hours as it took my longer to finish DQ IV. Though thanks for letting me know - when I go on my trip next week where my only gaming will be the DS, I'll make sure to bring a few more games with me. I thought DQ V would be all I needed the whole week (plus I'll be playing it before then as well). Maybe I can finally start Chrono Trigger... Or perhaps one of the strategy RPGs I keep collecting and not playing...

I just received the circle of life and now back in my castle. I can't seem to get my family to join my party. I've gone and opened the portal and entered it, seeing if my family would appear to join me, but no dice. Did I miss something in the castle? I already talked to the prince. That seems like the only thing that was asked of me.

Talk to the lady at the bar?

Interesting - this is exactly where I left off with the game last night but I saved right then and didn't try to get out yet.

A couple of questions. I read on the guide (while at a store) that the Gotha knick-knack (chess set or something) you get by speaking to the bartender in gotha and then examining the bar. Well, that's great but the bar has been taken over by the monster guy and the person who assigns people to your party. WTF? There basically is no bartender any more.

Also, where is the last pachisi board, DoK? I'd like to win all those first. I did the one at the boat casino but I know there's one I missed because you are supposed to get a pass from one of them (so you don't need tickets) and I haven't come across that. The prizes in the boat casino one were pretty crappy for how hard that one was to make it through.
