Dragon's Dogma

shotgunshine

CAGiversary!
I did quick search and was surprised not to see a thread for this.

Is anyone else looking forward to this? I personally cant wait. Everything i've seen and read about this game looks fantastic. The demo was a big tease, though at least I got to see the combat which was great. Gamestop by my house is doing a midnight release for this so i'll be there to pick it up.

I plan on getting this on gamefly after I recieve\finish Max Payne 3. I loved the demo. I am surprised there's not much buzz about it on here.

For what it's worth, I pre-ordered it from Amazon tonight. The more videos I watch and reviews I read, the more it seems like my type of game.

Kinda bummed at no PC version; this will be the first console game I purchased for myself in a long while.

I don't see anything making me want to preorder it. I will hold off on a price drop. What little time I have to play games is currently going to D3 and ME3.

My order is shipping soon from Amazon.
Only cost $45 after using gift cards, plus it comes with a $10 GC.

FYI, you can change your main pawns appearance and class (6 out of 9) in the main area's.
Of the few articles written by the big sites, none of them really mentioned this.

Made it sound like you are stuck with whatever your creation was 100 hours ago and that you could just hire other peoples pawns if you wanted some different/better.
Any word on pro's/con's per platform? Or just get the one you have more friends on?
This is from IGN's review(they scored the game a 7.5 by the way)

Walking along a road, your Pawns might start going crazy over some invisible enemy that will then suddenly appear out of nowhere. Big fights cause slowdown that can freeze the screen for seconds at a time on the Xbox 360 version. Dragon’s Dogma runs much better on the PlayStation 3 than on the 360, with a smoother frame rate and fewer streaming problems; if the 360 version is your only choice, a hard disk install is mandatory to make the game playable.

Wasnt even considering this game, untill i heard about the pawn system. And it being open world.

DEMO GAVE NO HINT AT IT BEING OPEN WORLD!

typical capcom and shit marketing.

Picking it up at midnight tonite. stoked.

I was looking forward to this one until I played the demo. I wasnt impressed at all. Will wait until this is cheap in a few months to buy it.

What didn't you like about the demo? I was disappointed that you couldn't pick which class you wanted to be and that there was no exploration at all...which was kind of dumb since its you know...an open world game...they could've at least put a timer on...but the combat was damn fun which was enough for me to get this.
Any impressions on this yet?
^What he/she said... especially considering the reviews are all over the place. My main concern is the story and character development as I've read some rather damaging impressions yesterday. I'd like to know ahead of time whether I'm buying an actual RPG or a light hybrid because I have plenty of pick up and play titles around to suit any needs the latter might bring to the table.

Trying to install it.

Froze my 360 three times now.

edit; There it goes.
Not sure if it's my system/HDD but it takes a few minutes to read the disc before it brings up the installation directory (HDD, USB, 4gb, etc).

Yeah installing it was weird. I turned off my xbox and turned it on thinking it was my fault but after a few weird noises coming from the xbox it finally read it and installed it.

Same problem when I installed it. It sat there for a good 2 minutes before it started installing.

I haven't played too much yet but the game is fun. Very challenging to...if your wanting to get this for the story or characters then I would say pass or wait until its cheap.

Also, the pawn system is great. Its exciting resting at an inn and seeing if your pawn has been used by someone else. Also a tip...your main and rented pawns will pick up items...if you do not take those items off a rented pawn before you dismiss them, then you will lose those items. Some guy forgot or didn't know that and my pawn came back with some really nice items.

Enjoying the game so far.

At the Gran Soren Inn, you can buy all classes right from the start as long as you have enough Disciple points.
Each class is 1k and hybrids are 1.5k (Assassin, Mystic Knight, Magic Archer), so start saving before doing the 'cart escort' quest at the pawn camp.

I was going to play as a Warrior but the weapon speed is extremely slow and expensive -entry level sword is 25k.
So now I'm thinking of going MK or ASS and changing my pawn (Sari, Female, lvl 11 Strider) to a Ranger.

I was going to play as a warrior as well since I usually pick that for most games like this but I decided to switch it up and go with a strider...didnt really like it to much until I ''upgraded'' to a ranger...love the longbow.

Whats everyone else using? Also what about your pawns? My main pawn is a fighter. Just got him ranked up all the way. I might switch him out to a warrior soon. I make sure to have one of the rented ones a mage at all times since they have heal. The other one I was using a warrior but I just hired a sorcerer so we'll see how that goes.

I've only been playing for about an hour so I just have the pawn you start out with, Rook or whatever his name is. As for my class I picked mage (like I always do  ), I love me some levitation!

EDIT: My main pawn is a fighter, to even out me being a mage. Right now being a mage is alright, it'll probably get more fun when I learn more spells and whatnot.

It's a shame there's not more discussion about this game. It's really good so far. I started with my character as a strider and my main pawn as a fighter. I've been hiring mages for healing. I'll be sinking a lot of time into it this holiday weekend.

A few questions for those who've been playing awhile or might know:

Are items in chests random or set? Or a combination of both?

Can you get weapons/armor for completing quests?

Augments carry over to other classes and most of the level 1-3 augs are good so the need to grind is low.
List

Gave the Warrior another chance and now I'm sticking with it.

Pretty much start every fight by running at the enemy then doing a jumping slash because it locks on and is quicker then a ground attack.
Also makes it easier to set up skills because the enemy is staggered and you are inches away.

After a while it becomes an automatic thing, like starting a round in MK or SF with a jump kick.

Hope they add skills or buffs/aggro to LB in a future update.

Loving this game...been playing heavy since i've purchased it. I finally got some pretty good armor and weapons for my main pawn...had to buy almost all of it though. Is it just me or is it hard to find weapons/armor. I know its got to be out there somewhere and I was given a nice shield as a quest reward but other then that there hasen't been much else. On the plus side I have plenty of materials so i've been able to upgrade my gear.

That's sweet that augments carry over and thanks for the tip I'll be sure to try that next time.

I know what you mean, I think I've found only one or two weapons (only one was decent) and three pieces of armor/clothing, all of which were terrible.

-------------------------------------

I switched my class over (love that about this game) to fighter and I'm having a lot more fun. I still haven't really done much upgrading to my main pawn yet, I'll remedy that tomorrow.

Was planning on going fighter then warrior for a loooong time, but ending up picking strider and I am really enjoying it, I love the dual wielding daggers and that's what got me to pick the class. Not sure if I'm going to go assassin or warrior next though. From what I've played I am enjoying this game a real lot, way more then I thought I would based off of the demo, I'd highly recommend giving it a shot!

Gold is easy to come by but if you want a little extra scratch...

Kill all the Oxen near Gran Soren (around 20), take the beast steaks and let them Sour in your inventory or storage, then sell for 1.3k-1.5k each.

They should respawn in a few days, just in time for more harvesting.

Are any of you who have the game running into lots of technical issues? IGN says it performs much better on the PS3 but my local Best Buy only has it for the 360 and I'd really like to play it this weekend. I can deal with minor issues as I normally purchase all multi platform games on the 360. As long as there are no big issues and nothing game breaking (which I haven't read anywhere) I'll probably just pick this up tonight. If you've run into any problems please respond! Thanks.

This game looks awesome and I can't wait to spend my long weekend playing it!

I haven't experienced anything game breaking or any freezing problems. The only thing is characters in town and on the roads will suddenly appear out of thin air once you get close enough to them. Thats even with the game installed to the hard drive. IGN also talked about slowdown during big battles. I've been in a couple of those and didn't notice any problems.

I'm torn on whether to get the game now or wait for a price drop. How long do you think until this game and Witcher 2 are at 30 a piece?

Great, thanks for the info! I think I'll just pick up the 360 version then. Look forward to playing this either tonight or tomorrow. Still haven't even touched Witcher or Max Payne really. Guess they both get moved back again!

Only time I had a problem (low framerate) was when I rested at an Inn until night time, then ran right outside the city gates.
Suddenly 15-20 villagers and pawns spawned at once with lanterns.

Just found the merchant that sells Guts & Griffiths armor.
(name Alon, located West of Gran Soren infront of Ancient Quarry)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKm2sOeTgiY

I have about 400k saved and it looks like a full set costs around 260k.

Don't know if it's a retail or debug copy of the game they are playing but at one point in the video they do a gold cheat to get 90m.
(looks like d-pad imput at store screen)

Wonder how long it will take someone to figure it out?

I finished the quest yesterday and saw that armor...very sweet but its out of my price range.

Where level is everyone at?

Does anyone know where to find some port stones? I bought a few ferry stones, but it'd be nice to set up a few fast travel spots instead of only being able to jump back to Gran Soren. That Grimoire quest damn-near killed all interest in walking on foot to get EVERYWHERE.

According to the strategy guide it says theres one(and only one) in the second floor of Bluemoon Tower. Only other way to get some is buying it from The Black Cat. it says second playthrough though so im thinking its new game plus only. It also costs 200,000 gold.

Guts' armor is fucking awesome. I even accidentally choose a class where the dudes eye doesn't open all the way like Guts' as well or is that all of the classes?

The screen tearing, pop in, low fps at times, etc is a bit hard to swallow, but the game play more than makes up for it. Having a blast with the game so far (playing as ranger at the moment).

The pawn system is really cool - I got home from work today and 11 people had used my main pawn. I actually got a lot of neat gifts from them and like 30,000RC.

I wasn't happy about the screen tearing and probably wouldn't have been able to play it if I didn't find a fix. If you turn your settings to 720p on your Xbox display settings it almost completely takes away the screen tearing. I'm sure everything else will be unaffected but I haven't played long enough to see any problems.

Lost around 18,000 RC & pawn mission/enemy experience yesterday when they added the special pawns.

Two different Inn visits and my pawn came back with huge payouts that were wiped out due to "Server errors".
9,5xx RC the first time, then 8,7xx RC the second.

If you accidentally picked a default class and didn't get a chance to make detailed changes, there is an NPC vendor that sells a potion so you can do it over.

Johnathan in the Cassardis pawn encampment (near the Rift Stone) sells a potion for either 1,000 or 5,000 RC that lets you recreate your Arisen and Main Pawn (so it says in the description).

That sucks man. What are the special pawns?

Two people rented my pawn. One guy from France and another from Japan...that was pretty cool. Got over 28,000 rift crystals for it.

I did what I usually do with these types of games - spend 10 hours blundering around, then restart the game when I have a clue whats going on.

Game has got me hooked. Did 2-3 quests that I "missed" and they autocompleted as failures on my last character. Found a lot of new areas that I missed last time, a lot of new items. Got back up to level 23 or so on the new character.

Running a sword and shield assassin. Having a lot of fun with it after playing a strider previously. Class is overpowered at night... which is probably good, because venturing out at night is skeery.

You can search for them in the Rift under "Special Pawns".

They are just pawns for Capcom employees, no rare gear or anything, just a Capcom related Gamertag.

Saw a level 30ish character with none enhanced started gear, two weapon skills, and no augments.

I just saw them....I was hoping it was Capcom characters like Ryu or something lol...that would've been awesome.

Anyone here playing as a warrior? I've only been a strider then a ranger but im thinking of giving warrior a shot...mainly because I have a nice assortment of weapons i've saved that only the warrior can use

Have any of you had the Gran Soren Innkeeper disappear? It's been about ten in-game days now. Also I didn't kill him nor did I ever hit him so I don't know what the problem is...
