DS Lite Acquisition stories.

After trying all the tricks and places described on this forum to find a DS Lite before launch, I ended up getting it on Sunday morning. I even went to the Super Walmart in my area at midnight amongst around 20 or so guys that were perusing the DS Lite case but too afraid to ask about it. The lady there told me that they had the systems in the back, but since no managers were in at that time, she wasn't gonna bring it out. She said that when they had the X-Box 360s, the managers were there to drag the pallet out the back. I'm assuming the manager had a life and somewhere else he rather be than opening a box of Nintendos for a bunch of losers with no life or girlfriends to hang out with on a Saturday night. And rightly so. If I was managing that department, I'd tell them to get there collective butts out there and talk to some girls instead of playing video games all the time. Anyway, I ended up going home empty handed and returning the next morning before church and getting one on the way there.

Here's my story:

I went to Gamestop at 11:05 am, picked it up (had it preordered in full with credit), bought a game, and left at about 11:10 am.

Nothing too amazing.
I know that Walmart employees get a 10% discount.
Bummer, I was hoping it was some sort of Wal-Mart sale.

i drove to CC at 10:15 AM, got there...didnt see any ds lites so i asked the guy...he got one out for me, i took a copy of brain age, went to the counter, handed him the coupon...then drove home

Went to Best Buy at 11:45. Got the system and Brain Age and left at 11:51.

I don't see many people having to do crazy things just to get the system.

of course not, this isnt like a console launch, the ps3 launch will probably be nuts

Got mine almost 2 weeks ago at Target. I decided to randomly check one in the area after reading Traken's thread on his success of finding one.

walked into Gamestop at 11am, 6 people in line, i waited and paid the rest of it, 10 bucks in cash and 20 bucks by credit card, i was given an extra stylus, and i walked out of there with a DS lite. mind blowing story...

Walked into BB in midtown Manhattan, saw some guy ask for it, guy in blue shirt goes to the back, gets one, asks the manager where the "DS Lite" games are located, proceeds to look dumb when the manager replies it's the same as the DS games, I smile to myself and decide to wait on it since it doesn't seem to be selling out anytime soon.

That is one long sentence...

I went into my old employer (Game Crazy), handed them my red DS w/ service contract, got refunded $149.99 for the system, and $19.99 for the contract, purchased a Lite for $129.99, and service contract $19.99, and used the extra $19.99 to pick up Big Brain Academy. Out of pocket? Nothing.

Was trying to go get it after wake up (around 10am?) but wife wanted to do swimming first.... so, after that, at around noon time, was debating whether to go to CC, BB, or target. Was told that CC has like a $15 off $100 coupon (or something like that), or a free Brain age game; BB also had the free Brain age game.... but we got a $100 gift card at Target... Well, I already have the Brain age game.... so, we decided to just go to Target.

There are like 10 on the shelf, I went up to the cashier and asked for one. He seemed a bit anxious and asked me were there any left on the shelf. i said yes, he took one from under the counter and said he had to take one before it ran out. Well, anyway, picked up the big brain academy as well...

On the way back, we passed BB and I wanted to get a screen protector. The sales said they had had like 4 in stock and was long sold out. I asked about ds lite, he said they had had 40, only 2 left. Probably the free games are attracting more customers.

Now... my wife is the official owner of the ds lite... while I am stucked with my red old ds.... Maybe when ds lite w/ other colors are out, I could switch mine....

That's about what I did, but I didn't go until 1:00 pm and didn't buy a game.

Got it last week when my boyfriend's manager at Target broke streetdate so my boyfriend bought one and then corrected the situation showing the manager the memo stating not to set them out yet.

Walk in to Circuit City, ask fora DS Lite, grab a copy of Brain Age only to find out that they won't give me the game and Mario case for free. I choose Brain Age and go home.

I'm sure it will be... but thats not based on the fact that Sony will not be able to produce enough systems, but for the fact that the people willing to wait in line for that overpriced overhyped oversized waffle iron are justifiably nuts anyway.

Predicting a shortage of PS3s is interesting. It means that we as a society have progressed to a point where we have become unable to satiate the immediate needs of the lunatics in our midst. A scary thought indeed.

Went to Circuit City in Wheaton, MD around 9:30 to wait for opening, was no one there waiting, a few people show up around 9:50, only 2 were getting DSs.

Find a employ, as for the DS, mario bundle and Brain Age. They run around looking for the stuff, find the DS lites in the back, but after 20 minutes decide they don't have the mario bundles or Brain Age in stock. Offer to let me buy the DS lite and pick up the bundle and game later. Pass on that and head to the next CC 5 or 6 miles away.

Grab Brain Age, go to a register, and ask about the lites, says they have a ton and goes and gets one, show him the mario bundle in the add, he looks it up and goes and grabs one.

Has some problems getting it all to ring up, but he just over rides it without a word from me (or help from a manager) and I get my DS and free Brain Age and Mario Bundle.

headed to bb with a coupon and bb.com order confirmations in hand. i hand the csr my confirmations and he goes to the back only to emerge with brain age. already i'm thinking, "shit, this is not going to work out." so i tell him that there's a ds lite with this order and so he went to the back and got the ds lite.

he started to process the order, scanning the items and i stopped him to use the coupon for the free brain age. he looks at me and says that he couldn't use the coupon because it's for in-store purchase. so i said to him that it was an in-store purchase and i'm picking up orders that i've placed on hold with my credit card through their website. he looks at me and says that he cannot use the coupon. so i asked him, did you try? (he never even scanned the barcode on the coupon) he said that he tried the coupon but it's not working. so we go on like this for a few minutes, i tell him that i want to return the items and purchase it right there. he says that he can't do that, the system won't allow him to do it. i mean, cmon, the ds lite and the game are there. i can cancel an order on the spot and then change my mind and repurchase both of them. i gave up on the kid and went to the video game section and told myself that i'll return the items and say that i want to buy the game and then use the coupon. i'm standing in the isle and another associate comes up to me and asks if i needed any help. so i explain to the guy and tell him the story. he looks at me and i thought he was going to agree with the csr, but he tells me that was wrong what the csr said and that i should go back and get the free game. the associate gives me a look like the csr guy was crazy and i was like, "hell, that's what i said in the first place!"

we walk back to the counter with just the ds lite and the associate tells the csr to return my items and purchase everything again and use the coupon. i guess the csr gets nervous and actually credits me 19.99 for the game i never purchased in the first place and gives me the game for free with the coupon!

I went to work on my day off in order to pick up a DS Lite. It's such a sleek little system and since I saw the demo units put in my store, I had to have one. I got there around 12:30 pm. As I was walking up to the counter, this huge hambeast burst through the door and rushed the counter, pushing me out of the way just as I got to the counter.

"RAWR! GIMME DS LITE NOW!" The hambeast bellowed.

I interjected, "Excuse me sir, I was in line before you."

"NO WAY FAG! I WAS HERE LIKE 15 MINUTES BEFORE YOU! SHUT UP!"
"Uh, no, please move so I can purchase my DS Lite."
"WHAT?!??!? YOU WANT THE ONLY DS LITE IN STOCK!?!?!?!?"
"I didn't say th..."

With that he swung at me and I backed off quickly.

"Whoa there settl..."

And he came at me again. I did the only thing I could...

SHORYUKEN!

I sent him flying out of the store, my fellow co-workers were so happy that they paid for my DS Lite and I went out of the store at 12:35.

This is made up for the guillible who couldn't figure that out.

I walked down to my EB Games (in the damn Texas heat), and picked up my DS Lite reservation. Then, after finding a place to sit down and scoping out my new handheld, I decided to treat myself to a tasty meatball sub at Quiznos. 'Twas a good day indeed. :D
These are still available in my area....not really sure what the point is. Seems like anyone can get one whenever
what the point is? well, the DS Lite is a handheld video game system. it allows you to play games on the go. it's a lot of fun, and if you've never played one, i highly recommend you check it out.

I went to Wal Mart at around 11 on my way home from being out with my girlfriend. The Manager was completely clueless and said he didn't know anything about a "DS...what???"

He tried, but couldn't even find them in the back and was confused by the Sunday rather than Tuesday release date. Went home, called the other WM near me and they confirmed they would be available at midnight. I asked what the line was like and she said "Uhh...right now there's nobody here..." in her most polite but dumfounded voice.

Got there at midnight, bought 2 of them. One other guy was there with his wife buying one. Discovered 2 dead pixels that night so I returned that system after Church and bought another one. Got home, and once again, a dead pixel. I opened the third one (the extra I bought at midnight) and finally success.

Returned the second DS Lite with the dead pixel so now I have just the one. Yes, I had bought an extra in case Ebay went through the roof. Flame away, at least I didn't try to buy out the store or anything like that.

heres my story went to ebgames , paid in full got ds lite and still had 8 dollars left in store cedit. stopped by best buy bought one there w/brain age + 10 dollar gift card for my nephew's b-day. found out that my sister bought one for him also. tried to return ds lite to ebgames but sisnce i didnt have the reciept they wouldnt do the refund. decided to ebay it

Went to Best Buy Wednesday evening with the Brain Age coupon. Best Buy didn't have any lite systems out and was out of the game. Didn't ask if they had more of either in the back.

Went to Circuit City last (Thursday) evening with the Brain Age coupon. Also didn't have any lite systems out and was out of the Brain Age game. But I asked a guy who went to the back and came out with both a lite and Brain Age. Then he offered to check me out by the game section as there was a line at the front. Best CC employee EVAR!

Also took a look at Target earlier for kicks and they had about 2 dozen systems sitting in the display case.
