Dewy-19.99 NEW!

This is a BAD sign, they are following GAMESTOP's pricing Strategy. From zack and wiki to this. Even thou the US sale price aint bad at all, I sure as hell hope they DONT stop the trade in promos.

I sincerely hope EB wont turn into GAMESTOP. Maybe EB staff can shed more light on this. aka Ranzo.

P.S Strangely, Advance War is $5 cheaper than in the U.S

Why is this surprising? EBgames is owned by the parent company Gamestop (Barnes and Noble I believe, or some other mega bookstore co.).

Also, Dewy's Adventure is merely an average game that's not even close to Elebits, and finally it's nice to have Days of Ruin cheap (saw it at Zellers' cheapie rack today for 30 bucks). :)

For what it's worth, Dewy's Adventure garnered a lot of 6.0ish reviews, but also a fair share of 7s and 8s. Or about the same as Elebits, which is a fantastic game. I might give it a shot anyways, for twenty bucks.
this is surprising because GAMESTOP previously had NO influence in what happens up here in Canada.
This will be changing very, very soon.
I don't really understand what the issue is here... $20 for Dewy's Adventure new is bad, because?
Because they're starting to copy what goes on in the US Gamestops.....which means that they'll stop the Trade 3 and other special events that are Canada exclusive.
This will be changing very, very soon.
Do you work at EB or is this you personal Opinion?

EB in Canada has always marked down software relatively aggressively, especially titles that haven't sold well.

It would suck if they axed the various trade-in deals, but marking down a game to $20 isn't exactly a major shift in EB policy.

Elebits is one of my favourite Wii games, and I got Dewy for 20 at Superstore before Christmas, and I can't say I like it very much. Granted, I only played two or three levels, but the controls turned me off enough to stop, which doesn't happen often for games that I buy.

I still have it and will give it another shot, but it ain't the best. 20 bucks isn't much either, though.

I do not work for EB but I have been told by employees of EB that Gamestop bought 19 of the Music World stores and will be opening Gamestops in those locations on April 1st.

Urgh, This can't be good...........
Which EB did you hear this from?
I do not work for EB but I have been told by employees of EB that Gamestop bought 19 of the Music World stores and will be opening Gamestops in those locations on April 1st.
Music world went bankrupt. EB did not buy anything. It was mentioned that if stores are short on employees that it would be nice to offer these music world people a job.
P.S can they even USE the GAMESTOP name in Canada?
Gamestop.ca is taken...
I am sure if they wanted to buy the website they could. GameStop is only well known in the states everywhere else in the world it is EB Games. It would cost way to much to chnage all the signs and risk having to start over with a "new" name in all those conturies. If anything.. I see a small "gamestop" sign added to the big EB signs like the source has.

Up until this year, this was true. However, there's now GAMESTOP stores in every country EB GAMES was in EXCEPT IN THREE COUNTRIES! They are: New Zealand, Australia, and of course Canada. These three countries are the only countries without GAMESTOP. If you click on EB Germany, Italy or Sweden's website, they have now all turned into Gamestops! I really hope Canada stays Gamestop FREE.

P.S If Gamestop did not buy 19 Music World stores, Why would employees be telling customers this?

Music World was bought out by new owners, who then declared bankruptcy.

I am being told by both managers of my 2 local EBs that a Gamestop will be opening in the former Music World location in our local mall. One of the managers has applied to become the manager of this new store.

What's the mall's name? Or even better, where is it?
GameStop is only well known in the states everywhere else in the world it is EB Games.
As gamer602 pointed out, this is incorrect.

Also, when Gamestop Corp. bought out Rhino Games last year, all of their locations became Gamestops. Not EB Games.

Gamestop has recently opened a new chain of stores in the U.S., named MovieStop. Could this possibly be an option for some of the Music World locations? Remains to be seen.
I hope EB Games turns into the US Gamestop. More reason to never go :>
I hope they don't. The Willow in Richmond closed, Microplay is nearly non-existent in the GVR, and Blockbusters in Vancouver don't accept trade-ins. Short of pawn shops, EB is the only local used game store in Vancouver.

are you saying you enjoy getting raped when trading things in? lol

masochist :p
are you saying you enjoy getting raped when trading things in? lol

Actually, if you know what you are doing, trading things into EB can actually be quite Profitable. There have been many instances where the CREDIT value actually exceeds THEIR USED PRICE! So Eb is quite good, WAY better than Blockbuster(trade4 sucks compared to trade 3) and all the local stores.

Do you mean that theres actually MICROPLAY stores in the GVR?????

Block Busters TIV are waaaay better than EB Games. I traded in 8 copies of Pirates of the Caribbean at worlds end for $240. Good luck pulling that at EB, you'd be lucky if they gave you $0.80

well 8 copies would net you 224 at EB, during their trade 8 promo, which is now over, but will still work for the trade 3.
240-12% would be $211 at BBV-and there's no way they would do that now cause they sell it for 19.99!

EB-224
BBV-211

also:
Halo 3
30 TIV at EB+12%=33.60
24 TIV at BBV-12%=21

EB wins.

so you are telling me if I were to go attempt to trade in EIGHT copies of Pirates of the Caribbean for the 360 they would take all eight of them? Or if I were to go trade in three copies of it for the trade three they would take all three.

Well I don't know if there are any Microplays in the suburbs: I know of one near Coquitlam Centre that closed.

And yes, EB and BBV have their pros and cons. Just trade wisely and get a nice employee.

Multiple copies is YMMV and will vary from person to person.

Eb purchased all of Music World's remaing/liquidated stock and top priorty locations. As stated from earlier poster, Gamestop/Eb games will be aggressively openning all those old music world locations into Gamestops. So it will be the same exact strategy that is currently set up in the US. All major malls will have an EB games and a Gamestop. Big difference will be the set up of the stores, Eb will stay the same but Gamestop will become more of a gamers location and interactive gaming locations with competitions and tourneys ect. As well there are a couple of locations already opened with most being opened by Mid April. The Ottawa area will be a starting point for them.

Really?

I think I can name a few more.

Do you have a source at EB?
Do you have a list of malls that will get GAMESTOPS?

I worked for EB games for over 7 years in upper level management and still have contacts within the company that I speak to on a regular basis. Once Gamestop purchased (or as the big wigs (steve morgan/james tyo) liked to say -A friendly merger) with Eb games back in 2005, the companies directive was to continue to establish the EB brand name in Canada, and to have over 400 locations within Canada with out changing the name, this way people wouldn't be even more confused ( As most people know out side the GAMERS LIFE,,when they say I bought this game at Eb games or "Just go to EB, i am sure they will have that in stock", many people will still have no clue what EB games is. Even to this day, when I tell people I worked for EB, they are clueless. So with out a massive media campaign such as Walmart or Bestbuy/Futureshop does, its hard to be #1 in the retail gaming world, so you have to pretty much have to rely on having the most available locations to the consumer as Eb does (another game plan as most have noticed, where ever you see a Walmart, you will now see an Eb games, smart thinking/move from the big wigs , People go there by the 1000's each day, no need to advertise as Walmart has already brought the people to that Smart Center or RioCan Plaza, everyone benefits . So now this buy out/take over will allow them to work on that (taking a bigger piece of the pie), as the Game Stop brand is a bit more front forward due to the american market and of course grabbing that extra dollars away from small time video game retailers in those major malls such as TSCC or Zellers ect. The easiest way to beat the competition is to be the competition. As for store locations they will be all the major malls,,such as Yorkdale, Square One, Eaton Center Toronto, SCT ect ect.
Hope that helps!

Um.... why does it matter? When you buy from EB Games in Canada the money is still going to GameStop, that would be like shopping in Future Shop instead of Best Buy and saying "Man, I hope Future Shop never becomes a Best Buy).

I think he just hates EB Games as it is and if it were turned into GameStop (which according the US forums here is about a billions time worse) he would have even more reason to dislike them and even more reasons not to go.

400 locations! You're right in the sense that the best way to best the competition is to be the competition! FS/BB have already proven this in CANADA. I'm just wondering why if they are going to keep the EB brand, since the same wasnt done in the US. In the states, every EB was turned into Gamestop, except for the ones that couldnt change their sign due to contracts with the mall.

Did the upper management at EB CANADA go through a "purge" like what happened in the US? Or did they keep the same people? Some EB Store managers quit shortly after the merger.

Also, do you know if GAMESTOP will use the same prices and promos as EB? Or will it be like FS and BB where they have the same system, but run different promotions and sets their own prices. I'm guessing the EDGE card can be used at both stores since it has both logos, while the EB GIFT CARD can only be used at EB.

Hopefully VANCOUVER will get some GAMESTOP stores come April 1st. All the malls you listed is in Toronto. I know that the busiest store in CANADA is Metrotown, and the 2nd busiest in BC is Coquitlam Centre. Is the roll out going to be cross CANADA or just ONTARIO come April 1st?
Really?

Haha of course. Ironically I was wondering a few days ago why we hadn't seen any recent promos from GameDeals.

There haven't really been any events since Boxing Day and I'm not short on cash (so no end of the month sales)... but if you really want something...

... how about a brand new Sony 8GB Memory Stick Pro Duo for $99?
or a used Xbox 360 (great condition +Falcon) wireless control, 20GB, for $299?

Good enough? Questions... call or PM me.

It's not the GameStop brand name that'd be an issue, it would be the way GameStop is run. Although TIVs have already plumetted after the dollar. Check this month's featured TIVs and compare them to the featured TIVs a few months ago.
