EB GAMES Summer Sale 7/15-7/31 B&M & Online (mostly)

Yeah, I guess I have to take it back. I just called EB's hotline and they're all like "We're not honoring it." I mean it makes sense since it is a sale, but still, I wish I could buy the game at $30 and get the voucher. I kind of want Capcom Fighting Evolution, I just only want to pay like $10 for it.

Dumb EB... you coulda had $10.

Just started looking into this 18-page thread.

I'll be getting Bard's Tale... if it's a display copy, I'll try to get a flyer and PM somewhere else.

I went into a EB BM and they told me they would not honor the rebate for Black Monday.

Maybe someone needs to contact the Better Business Bureau about this. If it is true, it seems like it might be a "Bait and switch" scam.

Hmm they told me there wont be any problem.

I visited the Bay City, MI B&M today (the only one in the area that has old school games AFAIK). They had a tiny display...Donkey Kong Country 2, Super Mario World, etc...nothing really great. Like maybe 10 games. 5-6 N64 games (including Goldeneye for $9.99 before deal) and that was pretty much it.

They did have a copy of Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne in though, FYI for any Mid-Michiganders, @ $44.99 - I just bought yesterday from Gamecrazy.

Bard's Tale was also OOS for both consoles.

We've been through this, and it's not bait and switch.

Might pick up Black Monday to complete the set...

What is it then? EB appears to be intentionally deceiving consumers by putting out these coupons w/ no intention of honoring them.

Unbelievable. Just unbelievable, with the CFE thing. They had it planned, I'm sure of it. There's no way that they, who have, of course, had this sale planned for a while, just HAPPENED to suddenly and accidentally have the game drop to $20, meaning no one could get the rebate. Especially not so soon after the Paper Mario debacle, would they make such a mistake; not honestly, anyway. EB is crumbling into scam artistry right before my very eyes. Good god.

I guess all I can hope for now if for CFE to drop back to $10 online later. I do actually want it.

Good thing I didn't buy it a couple days ago, at least.

I'm left with a question, though: Will we for sure get the vouchers for Rumble Roses, at least? I'm assuming $25 isn't a temporary sale (and it is cheaper used, $19.99, so that's encouraging), but it seems like it should be good, at least. I'd like to get it for $5.

Not sure about the workers at your EB but mine practically handed me the flyer and told me about getaway and CFE and all the other games with voucher. So I bought both with separate reciepts. I had no problems with Syphon Filter and Hot Shots vouchers which was purchased on one reciept and I still got both vouchers no problem. I don't expect anything different from these vouchers. Getaway and CFE were both advertised at $19.99 at the B&M so I can't see how they can not honor it. Good thing is that the flyer doesn't require a UPC cut out. This is just my experience anyways. Until they screw me (*knock on wood*), I won't hesitate to buy the games.

Are the Urbz and Rogue Agent worth the 15$ each? I've heard that the Urbz was lots of fun, and I'd be looking forward to buying that.

i think the only game i heard from the 800 line was the capcom they wasnt going on honor. I went into the store yesterday around south bend and asked about and the dude goes " im not going to touch it with a 10 foot pole. You buy the games at your own risk if you get the rebate good if you dont dont come back trying to say that you was going to get it" I guess they had a ton of people complaing about the paper mario 2 rebate.

Avoid Rogue Agent, but if you're a Sims fan, you'll probably enjoy The Urbz.

Just played some CFE....definitely not worth $20. Still waiting on reply from ebgames on the rebate for it. If its a yay, i will save email. If a nay, hell will be raised. Or at least trade the game into FYE for 18 bucks.

i went to pick up bards tale today but i notcied that used copies were only 12.99 so ill probably wait to pick it up from ebgames.com for even less than 9.99. I didnt need it right away anyway because i just picked up beyond good and evil on gamecube yesterday.

Dunno about RA, but I hate Urbz. They even added peeing and farting noises, which was really unnecessary. Especially when the hot blonde chick lets one rip.

Not at all. Bait and switch is when you have a product (not a rebate) advertised, and then substitute another item for it.

But if there is a question, just order it online. It states right there on the same page that you'll get the voucher for it. But if you aren't paying them for it (ie using a voucher) they have every right not to send you another one. It's a voucher good towards another purchase, not another voucher. Which is basically what it is when you use it on another voucher-redeemable purchase.

I've bought numerous games from EBgames.com with vouchers tied to them, with previously accumilated vouchers (including just recently, Super Monkey Ball Deluxe) and have had success every time getting a voucher. If they are to start a new trend they should state it clearly on the form and not have some vague fine print.

Another thing they should do is, address which game you're getting a voucher from with the emails they send the codes out in. Sometimes it's hard to figure out which game you're receiving a voucher from if you've sent out for multiple vouchers.

I am also betting, there really isnt any rhyme or reason to them fulfilling or denying them....prolly just a couple of working stiffs, putting them together and mailing them out......ones that have everything that look complete are processed, the ones they might question go to a manager, and they decline.......
I am taking the gamble and sending them both in for getaway and CFE, if they burn me, they will hear about it, very loudly. And I suggest anyone else to do the same and use the BBB in your conversation with them, and mention it is a dishonorable business practice and will be reported as such. If everyone complains, when they burn people, they will have to fix the problem, at least on future offers. I also, had the employees damn near force the flyer on me, and told me of the rebate games (I was in there price adjusting my bards tale 14.99-9.99.....really didnt want a gutter copy....oops I mean gutted (sounds so much better), wasnt really going to get them, got enough street fighter type games, but the employee said, why not, its free after rebate.............Believe me, if they stiff me, the corporation will hear about it.
So far, I havent had a problem, but all these people on here saying they called and were told they wont honor it, concerns me a little. Its hard to believe a company would stiff their customers like that, and it does seem a bit obvious they knew about the rebates window 7/15-7/31.....why chose then to price drop to futz up the rebates?, does seem a bit like some suspiciously bad timing on their part.

Times are different, its not like back in the day, when compusa, etc. would have rebates on all kinds of games etc....and they wouldnt fulfill much more than half of them, knowing most people arent even going to remember monthes down the road, what they sent in, and that most people dont know if others got it, they think everyone else got the rebate, and they didnt. People are alot more organized now adays (look at us CAG's), and will stir up alot of hoopla if they dont follow through, or are scamming people (its alot more obvious nowadays if alot of people are denied a rebate, and we can make alot more of an impact in their sales.) If they scam people over and over, people will remember, and shop accordingly.........i already treat them about the same as best buy, only really good for occasionally cheap games and dvds, yknow loss leaders.....I am a DEVIL customer, after all........

I've had success with every voucher too until . . . Syphon Filter AND Hot Shots . . . was actually an OR . . . so, I only got one. And Paper Mario was never honored at all . . . so, for me, the trend is toward problems and denial.

I've had numerous problems, also.

First the retail store would sent the voucher forms in for me. Since, it was one per address, corporate denied them. This was last Aug-Dec. where I had bought six games with rebates. I kept a paper trail of all offers and receipts. After months of dealing with corporate, A GM finally stepped in and gave me a gift card.

Recently, I experinced the problem with Paper Mario. After countless calls, the sitation was finally rectified.

All I can say is keep copies of the offer, the receipt, everything. Write down the name of EVERYONE you talk to. Spend a little more to have it sent certified. And if you know you are in the right- DON'T GIVE UP. EVER. NEVER GIVE UP. People give up far too easily. If you give up, they have won. That's how I've won these two hard fought battles. That's why voucher and rebates programs work. 90-95% of people are too lazy to send in the form...Be ELITE!

EB is getting sleazy. They must have learned from the Paper Mario fiasco to time their voucher programs with their sales, right? It's just a quick and dirty way to get some quick cash before the merger.

Cant confirm this but i took my Capcom game back this morning and the dude goes returning it cause no 20 bucks back right. I go ummm yea and they said they got around 10-20 of each of the games with 20 bucks back returned since Friday. they said they heard that Eb will not honor any of these and will just say they got lost in the mail.

Capcom is a temp price drop its now showing in their systems regular price 29.99 price drop 19.99 so they wont honor is what they said...

I would take the guys name who said they wont honor them and will say they were lost in the mail.......and call there corporate office and ask them what the deal is with the employees saying that kind of stuff. My store said it was free after rebate......why not try it.
I would be all over that one if the employee was dumb enough to say that to me, I would ask him where he heard it, and climb up the corporate ladder from there, and if he wont tell you who, report him to their corporate office. I bought both games for 20$ in store, due to the employees doing there job and selling the game (talking shop about games) and filling me in on the rebates....
I even asked, playing dumb, are you sure they will honor, that comes out to paying 20$ now get 20 back in a future voucher......done it before and quoted syphon filter and hot shots golf......as recent ones.

...I wasnt going to bite on these at first. Since i did, why not send in the rebates. They better honor them or their is gonna be a $#iT storm over this one.......
I am starting to think they are like previously stated, starting a quick and dirty way to drum up sales......to boost company stock or something before the merger.........
They do this stuff, and think they will actually get it over on people, and might on some of the more average joe gamers......CAGs, on the other hand, no way......

edited again, and sorry realized i ranted~~(am ranting)
thanks to shrike for merging my posts last time , bTW

Has anyone got a confirmation from them that they WILL honor it if bought instore at 19.99? either game? I am debating about emailing myself.....and see what they say. They are probably realizing now, that they are pretty inconsistent with their handling of these issues.

They should change it so you get a 20$ gift voucher when you buy it outright, and cant return the game unless you return the voucher too...or something, they seem to go out of their way to make it difficult to participate in these "deals"

You guys got me wondering if I should just return them and write them off completely, the open item as new thing, already tweaks my beak the wrong way.

EDITED~~
I just looked CFE is 19.99 new on their site again, doesnt say anything about sale (although used is 26.99)....and the voucher link is right there, and states "buy it and receive" no price mentioned required to participate. (you would think that would have been rectified, if this was an issue. But funny enough on the voucher it actually says at the bottom:

"Typographical errors are not the responsibility of EB Games."

uh~~who is responsible, then? santa claus? Thats just so they can escape button it, if cornered by logic, I think.

I can give you a confirmation that they will honor it. I just spoke to Shawn at x4016. He seems to be a lead CS operator at EB games, because whenever I call I seem to get him....
Anyway, they will honor Getaway and Capcom Fighting Evolution, as of 7/18...
Be aware that they did tell me they were going to honor all Paper Mario rebates early on, also.

" they said they heard that Eb will not honor any of these and will just say they got lost in the mail"

That's stealing. If a person ordered games from EB, received them, and then repoarted they were lost in the mail, that would be larceny.

I'm not saying a person should do that if EB screws them or anything. Stealing is wrong and two wrongs don't make a right, cliche, cliche...
Well that's just great, I bought the Getaway in store on 7/15.

Well, thats still shady, my rebate form says 7/15-7/31, and I bought them on the first day.......7/15.........how is 7/18 any different...its 19.99 on their site right now..........they cant post a rebate/voucher...then change what they feel like later on.........oh...we dont want to do 20 for that, make them all 5$ rebates.....it dont work like that (or at least not supposed to)
Am i just wrong in assuming they flat out said they wont honor it for the 15-17th?
This might be actually be worth the hassle, if you can really give themm a hard time on the other end...got to get your 20$ back somehow.........
and yes stating they will be lost in the mail is larceny (its a planned theft, and doing it through the mail, doubly bad) wish I heard that guy say that, I would taken that and gone nuts with it.

Perhaps we should all go back and return it, and rebuy them at the store....so as to havea new receipt stating "whatever the price is today" on it.........
I would think as crappy as it sounds, they can send you a 10$ one with an apology that the rebate was supposed to be 20 off of 30, netting 10 for them...I would be okay with that, IF it only happened once.....this is starting to sound like the uncovering of some shady $#!t.

I definitely agree, you cannot just change the stipulations to your rebates. It said that purchases must be made from 7/15 - 7/31, which all of us have done.

It's really not our fault that EB is clearly inept to see that they are giving us free Getaways and Capcom Fighting Evolutions. Besides, it's not like the price has changed on Getaway since 7/15, it is still $19.99 even on their website.

Original Message Follows:

Hi, as you might be aware, you're stores are having a Summer Sale
that's valid from 7/15/05 to 7/31/05 in your stores. In this sale, it
says if
I buy The Getaway: Black Monday (PS2 game), then I can receive a $20 EB
Games mail-in gift voucher. I purchased this game on 7/15/05 with a
voucher that I received almost a year ago. My question is, am I still
eligable for the $20 voucher? I don't know if using a voucher to
purchase this would count as "other offer or promotion" or not. If it
does, then I wouldn't be eligable for this $20 mail-in voucher. Thanks.

Hello Frank,

Thank you for contacting EBgames.com.

Yes you will still be eligible for the new gift voucher.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to respond to this
email. You can also give us a call at 877-432-9675, 7 days a week from
8 am to Midnight Eastern Standard Time.

Best Regards,

So Black Monday is a go right?

Sorry, I din't mean to confuse you guys. I should have been more clear.

on today, 7/18 I confirmed with Shawn that the vouchers would be going out for these two products.

No problem, thanks for clearing that up. It seems that they will be honoring this deal, anyways I'll be putting my rebate form in the mail today, so hopefully in the next couple of weeks we will see if it is true.

Ok rallen, thanks, that sounds better, Thanks for the clarification......so my 2 should still be okay..(.still using me and the wife though.....)bought on the 15th.....
although the guy that posted his email back that he is eligible for a voucher even though he paid by voucher, makes me wonder, are they asleep at the wheel, and its just luck of the draw who you get, and what response you receive.
I think someone else got a no to that one (if he gets it, hey great, more power to him, I hope it does ship for him)..........dont think i tried that one as yet...
I am going to mail these in, but I am steering clear of them after this, not worth the headache. (or the open "new" cases, shenanigans)

how long does it take you guys, two weeks? man, mine take over two monthes.........I actually almost forgot about my last two when they showed up.
why do rebates take that long anyway? in general, I mean?......so it goes past the return time?
so if you paid for the game with a voucher you can still get the rebate right?
Yes. Also, for B&M purchases, just send in the small form and a receipt?

It takes so long because they run the rebate prints once (and occasionally, twice a month). So if you send it your rebate form today 7/18, they'll probably get it on the 21st, and then you'll wait until 8/15 before they print it. Give 'em a week to mail 'em and a few day to receive them in the mail.

I would guess the end of August at the soonest.

I just got back from my Ebgames .. looks like there are some Bards Tale left. I got mine for Xbox. There are tons of NES games there too. I never took notice to it for some reason. I was hoping to get a bunch of N64 games but I didnt see anything too interesting (I was mostly just looking for Ocarina of Time). Thanks to the OP for the heads up.

In case it wasn't posted before, with the 50% off sale, if you stack that with the EDGE card, your 10% off comes off the original price. Super Mario All-Stars was $24.99, came up to $9.99 after the deal and card. fucking awesome.

Finally found a new copy (not even gutted) of Bard's Tale at the 4th EB I checked today. I had pretty much given up hope since two EBs I checked didn't even have any used copies, and in one EB the guy working there didn't believe me that it was $10. It drives me nuts when I know more about a sale thean someone working at the store. Anyway, that store didn't even have it, so I didn't argue with the guy for too long.

Oh well, I got my $10 Bard's Tale, and I'm happy. Much thanks to the OP!

Hey I got a hell of a deal, since I work for EB, I got:
FF3 9.99 with mint box, no inst.
Mario Kart 3.25
Secret of Mana 9.99
Super Metroid 7.50

50%+10% edge+15% employee= 75% off!!!!

Thats weird how some stores dont even know about the deal but some do. At the particular store I was at they couldnt have advertised it more. There were fliers on the door, the employee behind the counter was telling everyone about it when they came in, they were handing fliers out, there were fliers posted on the wall, and they were even answering the phone with a brief message about the buy 2 get 1 free deal on dvds and older games.

arg, everytime i goto ebgames for a trade in deal i have to bring them a printout from the website or i get shot down. it looks like this is gonna be the same, i just went to one store was told this deal was "like a month ago", are there any scans or something from the website I can show them?

Probably would have been easier to just go price match it at Circuit City or Best Buy, rather than drive to 4 EB's =/

I was completely overlooking the Bard's Tale markdown . . . maybe cuz of the pairing with Fight Club? . . . But last night my wife was reading the magazine "Giant" and she pointed to their mini-review of BT (for PC) and said "looks funny . . . have you played it?"

Of course, I'm like "hey, that looks good" and it's $10 at EB but I bet they're all gone now.

Today, I went in and got the last Xbox sealed copy . . . so cool . . . hopefully the game doesn't suck.

What a great deal. Finally went today and the EB I went to still had plenty of Bard's Tale and all copies were sealed. Had like 3 for PS2 before I left and either 3 or 4 for Xbox.

While I was there I was brosing their PSone section and finally a Threads of Fate came in and complete. After the 50% off they gave me and Edge Card it came out to $7.50 or so including tax. Awesome. That really made my day.

Checked to see if this sale would work for GBclassic games, but it wouldn't. Sucks. Oh well.
