I send a blu ray on ebay and i send it out.  They claim i send a completely wrong item, which i know is impossible.  Anyway to fight it?

I always record myself packing items and sealing them up because of this :( A lot of buyers looking to rip sellers off.

I'm not sure how to fight it :\ Hopefully someone here will know. The two times it happened to me, I had to refund once and the 2nd time let the buyer return the item (It was just buyers remorse...)

^ That's a nice thought but recording yourself won't help with eBay or PayPal.

OP, how did you ship the item (USPS, Fedex, etc.)? And by what service (first class, priority etc.)?

Start by killing the buyer with kindness (do not accuse him of lying or being a scammer). Mention you are positive that you sent item "X" because you don't have item "Y" and ask if perhaps he has you confused with another seller or your item confused with another purchase he made.

If he won't back down inform him that you're going to file a report with the postal inspector (you can actually do this online---I don't remember the website off the top of my head[for USPS shipments only]) as someone at USPS must have tampered with your package.

Usually this is enough to get a weak scammer to back down. Typically the only way for eBay to side in your favor is A) If the buyer has a history of opening these types of claims or B) at this point file a police report and enter the case number

If we're talking a $5-$30 item I really won't bother but that's up to you.

If all else fails have the buyer return the item for a refund. This requires that they mail something back and again is usually too much work for a scammer and sometimes results in them going away when they realize you're not going to just cave and issue a full/partial refund and allow them to keep the item.

Whatever you do----don't just issue a full refund and let them keep the "wrong item" as it will encourage this type of behavior in the future

Thank you! And like I mentioned above don't make it sound like you're filing the report with the Postal Inspector because you think he (the buyer) is a piece of $hit but because someone at the postal service is---if he's smart he'll understand that this means he and his address will be on file with the USPS and if he's done it before it is likely he is already on their radar... In these instances it's amazing how many buyers just disappear or find the item

this is my last reply to the buyer:

"If you truly receive a wrong item. Then it must meant that someone in postal office have opened the package and replaced the blu ray that I send to you. I will inform the postal inspector to open a investigation and file a police report to check who is it that open the mail and changed the content. I will let you know the result shortly."

And since then no more messaging... did that get him to back off?

Never knew about this

Cool :)

I'm saving this for later, hopefully I never need it, but just in case
^ Yeah I've used it before. Who knows what USPS does with the information but I'd have to imagine that if someone tried to pull scams like this frequently and if every time the seller filed a report after a handful of times he'd certainly be on their radar (and if by chance he was being honest then the person doing his route).
