Ebay'ing an Xbox 360

Yeah that's one of the reasons I'm not getting a 360 to sell. Paypal sucks. Scammers WILL be out in full force for the release so watch out for those bidders with low feedback.

i think im going to try and get one to sell, but im going to wait until after black friday and sell it in december, i think itll probably go for more then
I may be in the vast minority here, but doesn't this look a lot like the PSP launch? Million Consoles shipped, rumored shortages, high price tag, large launch lineup. I guess it does make a difference being close to Christmas, but I'd be a little leary about buying 10 extra for the sole intent to make a killing on eBay. As with the PSP, you couldn't find one to buy for OVER $250. It was definately a buyer's market....
The big difference is that the PSP launched in Japan months earlier and was readily available through importers - those people made the money on markups. Demand never really ramped up because of this and so, despite the scare tactics of EB/Gamestop/Game Crazy, there was no shortage of PSP's.
Because we don't know how long would the Limited edition bundle be avaiable since I need to use that HDD, Component Cable, and the Live Mic out of the box. Buy now or pay much much more for later ;)
I sure hope you are kidding. The system will include all of that and more for $299 in 1 year.
It looks like the price is between 200 - 500 right now. Not worth it right now. Make a whole $50 after taxes.
That's why you live in a state with NO sales tax.....like New Hampshire. Live free or die is the state motto here, and they mean it.

No income tax, no sales tax....its a great deal, until you need license plates for your car or your property tax bill shows up.

im going to walk into a few retail stores and if i can get one or two i will hold onto them until near christmas, if they dont blow up on ebay then i will just return them with the receipt

Or you go to college in new hampshire. While I was there I paid no property taxes and still enjoyed the no tax. Too bad they built the Best Buy and Walmart AFTER I left though...

Well, I'd consider buying it just to turn around and sell it. I live in a semi-unpopulated area, if I can buy one with no problems and the guy in Tupelo, Mississippi can't get one, why shouldn't I be able to sell it to him and hook it up? He gets a system he wants, I get money I want. We both win, if they don't want it they don't have to pay outrageous prices.

And actually, there's an article on CNN Money saying the worst case scenario is about 1.5 million 360's on launch day in North America. I'd say that would make it a good chance for you to profit. Either way, there's not going to be more supply then there is demand.
What bothers me about this is the risk of chargebacks. You buy a $300 or $400 system, what happens if the buyer does a Paypal chargeback or credit card chargeback, then you are out all your profit plus the cost of the system. I hear that kind of stuff happening with electronics on EBay all the time. I was considering buying an extra system to EBay and make a quick $200 or $250 but I don't want to take the chance of dealing with a scammer who will do a chargeback.
so they can just do a chargeback whenever they want for no reason at all?

Basically, yes. They can do a "not as described" chargeback by saying something stupid like, I thought the XBox was blue, I don't want it. Then they send you back an empty box with a tracking # (to show Paypal they sent "it" back) and they get their money back.

....WTF IS THAT fucking bullshit??!!

Or the classic my credit card was stolen but somehow all the items bought were delievered to an address that's been on my account for years.

These 2 bits of info contradict each other, but here goes.

FYI 1:

Last week, the average selling price on eBay for a Xbox 360 was $567.

This week, the average selling price on eBay for a Xbox 360 is $556.

If you're going to hoard and attempt to resell for a profit on eBay, please use fixed price listings. Everybody (OK, 99%) using an auction style listing is going to lose their asses.

I'm almost glad my preorder was bumped from the release date batch.

FYI 2:

According to the Game Crazy manager I talk to everyday, Game Crazy ordered (and paid for) 33,000 360s. M$ is only supplying 9,000 on launch date. So, there is going to be some measure of a shortage.

Reason I do not use PayPal anymore for anything.

I don't like using it but it's a neccessary evil of EBay. I just don't sell anything expensive that I'm not willing to take a loss on. Like if I am selling some old games I bought years ago from EB that I never played and decided I didn't want anymore and they only cost $5 or $10, I'm willing to take the risk but to sell something like a laptop or a system on EBay is something I wouldn't want to risk.
I'm not one to judge, do what you want I say, but you don't think any managers at Sears or higher ups than you might have something to say about this plan of yours? It's a pretty big ticket item that a lot of people want and you are going to buy all of them the store receives? I don't think the managers will look kindly on that when customers start the bitching when they come in as soon as you open on the 22nd and all the 360s are already sold, to an employee. Good luck explaining it to your supervisors as you walk out of the store with all of the units they received.
talked to my manager, said he didnt care how they got out of the store, as long as they did is all that matters

all i can say is that there will always be someone out there greedier than yourself. like mentioned earlier, you may need that money for the time that your karma (or whatever you believe in) comes back at you. *unrelated note: LA TIMES article on conservors; case in point*

i am either way on this. make a profit, you spend it on something else = go economy. but i really despise people who are going to buy multiple consoles, realize they wont make a profit on them, and end up returning them. thats bad business for everyone. and i definitely foresee alot of "i got ripped off on an ebay auction for the nth xbox 360 i tried to sell for xyz profit..." in which case everyone will say the big "Got what was coming to you!"

seriously good luck as i hate buying first gen systems so none of what you do affects me.

Seems like 360 is going to launch with double the amount of systems ps2 did, while sony (last time I checked) is the one with double the demand, brandwise (psp not withstanding). That and ebay already being saturated with people like you, I'm predicting more supply than demand. You might buy 10 360's, but I'm sure there will be people with hundreds. The joy / insanity of christmas may work in your favor though. Make sure to bump this when your auctions sell.
talked to my manager, said he didnt care how they got out of the store, as long as they did is all that matters
good i hope you get eaten by the shortage hype from ms and get nothing.

prices are crap right now.
=======================

this happened last year with nintendo ds. they hyped shortage and had everyone bought it so prices went up about 35-40 dollars over retail for 1 week in NOV. then they shipped 1 million more units without saying anything right before christmas and prices dropped like mad. ebay whores got screwed up the butt:applause:

on top of that it has already been said that walmart and bestbuy will carry 80% of xbox360's 1st shipment. then whatever's left goes to gamestores.

gamestores that say "oh walmart will only carry like 5-10" is complete bs.

well time will tell in one short week

btw ive sold well over $10k worth of stuff via paypal before and never got fucked over like several ppl here say they have.

and for those planning ahead, i guarantee next year, assuming ps3 launches around this time, that there will be megabucks to be made on that

This sounded like BS, but it's exactly what the Game Crazy manager I talk with daily said.
