Besides, I seriously doubt they're going to get a bunch of copies of NBA Street in if they're already on back order. Chances are you'll be waiting 6 months for someone to turn in their copy for you to get taken off the back order list.
perhaps this is real, we have seen stranger deals......havent we
I dunno man, 9 cent Halo is pretty strange.

They do not HAVE to do anything.

Shoot, I missed this... well, if it does turn out, I'd be willing to pay DOUBLE (ooooh) for a few of those games! :p Think of the profit you'd be making!

I don't think the orders will get cancelled. Recently EB.com has really had some great deals. It wouldn't surprise me that they'd throw 10-20 copies of some really good games out there for $.09-.14. So they lose $150-300...they create a buying frenzy and I can guarantee the traffic on that site will be through the roof for the next few days. Then again they could cancel the orders, save the money, and still get the traffic (although they'd probably piss a few people off in the process). Dang, I hate missing out on deals. Halo, DOA XVB, etc, etc...wow.

I don't buy into this for two reasons:

1) What benefit is there to driving up traffic and then cancelling orders of those that bought into the "sale"? Traffic for a web-tailer doesn't increase anything except bandwidth costs if nobody's buying, or sales are being reversed.

2) Why would they run a "sale" from 6:50 am until 7:15 am when almost anybody they would want to attract would be asleep. It's really only the lunatics (and I use lunatics in it's most loving, self-referential sense) on this site who would jump all over a pricing mistake like this.

i tried to order nba street but went into the other room to get visa and they took it out of my cart oh well it wpuld have tooken forever to get it anyways

word of mouth dude. if people talk (see this thread) people will look for them.

the total for my nba street went from 10 cents too 2.26, the shipping changed from free too 1.99 for some odd reason, still I think im getting a good deal, pfft yeah right like they will actually ship it

yeah they cancelled the free shipping on my order as well. but since you used the code, if they actully ship it, call them when you get it and tell them you should have gotten free shipping, they should credit you

Well if for some realllly strange reason this is real, they wouldn't take a dollar hit on the shipping...that would be stupid.

Hmmm for some strange reason, they charged my card $.91 for NBA Street. I guess I still got the free shipping but the price of the game went up a bit.

What's even more strange, is they charged you $1.99 and me $.91.

I just got an email from EB:

Hello from EBgames.com,

Thanks for choosing us as your source for pre-played games. Last night, we had some of our pre-played games listed at extraordinarily cheap prices and we received the order you placed for these titles. Unfortunately, we made a typo and these prices were listed in error. We will not be able to honor your order at that price and have cancelled the order you placed. Your credit card will not be charged for the order.

If you would still like the games you chose at their correct prices, please feel free to give us a call or replace another order through EBgames.com. We can be reached 7 days a week from 8am to Midnight at 877-432-9675.

We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you will continue to shop with us.

Best Regards,

EBgames.com Customer Service

I guess no one will be getting anything

Yeah, I just got the same e-mail.......This could have been the best deal ever.

Circut City still holds the title!!

Look on the bright side, there won't be 50 copies of Halo and FFX-2 on ebay tomorrow.

And don't get mad at EB for cancelling, you wouldn't honor it either if it were your mistake.
word of mouth dude. if people talk (see this thread) people will look for them.
But once again, who does the word of mouth benefit?

- The customers who go looking at EBGames.com for 15¢ games and leave not finding any?
- EBGame who sees their bandwidth spike with no commesurate increase in sales?
- People who did get in on the sale only to have their order cancelled, who end up with a bad taste in their mouths?

(Let's hope nobody really comes away shocked when their order is cancelled. Although I await the inevitable ranting posts about "How can EBGames do this!? I'm calling my lawyer!!" that deals-that-are-not-deals always seem to generate on FW.)

And how much word of mouth do you think this "sale" generated, having lasted all of 25 minutes in the very-early hours of the morning? Only a small percentage of EBGames customers are aware of CAG — not sure if this hit FW, which would be a somewhat larger proportion, but still small compared to the whole — and only a small percentage of that number would have been logged on and checking CAG and EB within that period of time before the "deal" was declared dead.

Word of mouth advertising to an incredibly small number of admitted Cheap Asses is not the kind of viral marketing campaign I'd like to attach my business hopes to.

Let's all remember that EBGames is not a banner-driven site, they're a web-tailer and as such derive no benefit, and in fact only lose money through increased bandwidth costs, from people just browsing the site.

Word of mouth traffic increases without corresponding increased follow-through sales — and not 15¢ sales, either — does them more harm than good.
Has anyone received a refund yet? They didn't mention anything about a refund in the email they sent me.
They won't refund. They'll just not finalize the charge and let the authorization fall off.

oddly enough when i checked my ebgames account just now the order was still there but on hold, I tried too cancel it myself but no dice. Perhaps either they will cancel it or by the grace of god i will get the game (yeah right)

I would have to agree with this analysis. Word of mouth is great and all, but especially in this case, it probably won't benefit EB much. Now if this went down at a B&M store, there would higher potential benefit for the retailer.

mine was cancelled as well, I plan on complaining my ass off until they send me a gift voucher. At least it won't be a total waste, also one of my dreamcasts from them came today and the fucking thing won't play cd-r's, So don't believe it when someone says "all dreamcasts can play them" because that's b.s and if you don't believe me I can take a video of the same disc working in someone else's DC and not mine.

So you're planning on giving them a hard time over an obvious typo which they already apologized for AND youre also complaining that your Dreamcast won't play illegal copies of games?

Wow, I think that's a new record for stupidity around here.

Go f yourself. They had a price marked and it should be honored. Besides I want something for my trouble. Also, I don't recall anywhere in my post asking for your opinion. Also no where did I say I plan on using it for illegal games, last time I checked CD-R's weren't illegal.

Not a new record, but a valiant effort. Seriously, complaining just to get a voucher, when you knew in the first place it was almost certainly a typo, is a really childish thing to do (apologies to children who are mature enough not to do such things). Don't complain unless you have a valid complaint.

And the price should NOT be honored because it was OBVIOUSLY a typo - they also clearly state on their website they can cancel an order due to a typo.

Your "trouble"? All you did was type some credit card numbers into the computer - wow, what HARD WORK.

I hope the EB Games representative laughs at you and hangs up on you for being such a moron.

I want it to play V-CD's sherlock holmes. Once again, please kindly go fuck yourself. Also you're just pissed off that you couldn't get in on the deal, if you did get in you'd want the price too. Besides I just want a gift voucher. What the shit is your problem? Why did you take it upon yourself to flame me? Last time I checked, when I first posted I did nothing to you.

My Dreamcast seemed to run VCDs quite crappily, but then again it was a dying system anyway when I got it.
My Dreamcast seemed to run VCDs quite crappily, but then again it was a dying system anyway when I got it.
They work pretty well on my friend's system. I got another DC comming from EB, most likely tomorrow, so I'll cross my fingers on that.
Is it even worth arguing over? Just keep to yourselves and do what you want. No need to go back and forth here.
I agree, BUT If someone attacks me though, there's a good chance I'm going to retaliate. I dunno what got him started in the first place, I didn't say anything about him or that even concerned him.

Dude, don't complain, it was an obvious error. If it came out of your pocket you wouldn't honor it either. They were curteous enough to notify you of the error before cancellation, and offering you the games at the correct price. All you're going to do is piss off some poor CS rep that probably has no authority to issue vouchers anyway. It IS childish to complain about something that you KNEW was an error, you KNEW more than likely wouldn't ship, and inconvienced you in no way.

As for the Dreamcast, get one made before Oct 2000. Easier in store when you can just look at the bottom.

Once again, PLEASE GO F YOURSELF IN THE A. Why do all the fucking trolls decide to flame me? They post a price they should honor it. Simple enough. Who the shit made you the godamn P.R rep for EBgames? they fuck with users on a regular basis, I'm just sticking up for Joe Six-Pack that gets 5 cents on the dollar for his trade in. God I fucking hate you and MMM.

I understand that, BUT I damn well expect a 10-20$ ebgames voucher for this fiasco and as you probably know, the squeeky wheel gets the grease.

I agree with your point about the obvious typo - eb shouldn't have any obligation to hold this price. It's not like it was at a b&m store where somebody went around and put a physical sticker on the box, for all you know it could have been a bad line of code in a script.

As for the CD-R's...if you want to import games, you usually need a CD-R bootdisk to play it. A friend of mine needed one to play Guilty Gear X when he imported it. So there's a valid reason to have a bootdisk/CD-R capable DC. I guess.

Like I said, I just want to play V-CDs. Also whats the difference between someone digitally changing the stickers and someone physically changing them? The price is still changed and available for all to see. I say F Ebgames. I WILL BE DAMNED IF I DON'T GET A 10-20$ GIFTCARD OUT OF THIS. I recomend everyone who ordered does the same.

Once again, PLEASE GO F YOURSELF IN THE A.

Responding to being called childish with a childish statement... I love it.

Why do all the shaq-fuing trolls decide to flame me?

I'm not a troll. I started this thread. I told people not to expect this to work and not to complain about it. You obviously didn't get the message.

They post a price they should honor it.

They made a pricing error. If your tradelist said you wanted 5 cents for a game instead of 5 dollars, would you honor it?

I'm just sticking up for Joe Six-Pack that gets 5 cents on the dollar for his trade in.

Demanding games for 5 cents or a discount for your "trouble" is really sticking up for the little guy. Heres a little hint. If EB won't give you much for trade-ins, don't trade them in there.

I understand that, BUT I damn well expect a 10-20$ ebgames voucher for this fiasco and as you probably know, the squeeky wheel gets the grease.

Do you really expect a $10-$20 credit for doing nothing? They didn't actually inconvienance you in any way. Now, if they shipped the item, and then changed their mind, then you'd have a point. Or if they tried to charge you the full price without asking you. Or maybe even a slight beef if they cancelled it without notifying you. They did none of these things. They notified you of the error and gave you the option of paying the real price or having the order cancelled, and apologized, and then they cancelled it.

You weren't screwed, or inconvienanced, or even treated rudely. They acted in a professional and curteous manner (which is a surprise in itself). Why should they give you a dime?
