Enchanted Arms

I picked it up last night. I'm only an hour into it, but I really enjoy it so far. Plus the graphic novel is pretty good and gives a little back story into the game.
I've seen gayer characters in a game.
Seriously. I think we all know which way Cloud Strife swung.
Pretty Much the gay-est character I have ever seen in a video game.

i was under the impression he was the main character...which in turn i would find very annoying because of his extreme gayness...if he isnt though then it all is good

not buying a game cause one of the characters is gay is the gayest things i have ever heard. Oh and the game includes the Jap audio track.

WOW that video may had just single handly hurt sales bye 25% if not more WTF was that
People here are just as bad as others in the GameFaqs forums. If you don't buy a game because there is a Gay character in it, you have more issues than the game.

Some real life issues of intolerance of sexual identities other than your own. DO not go down the road that alot of GameFaq'ers went down as there is so much angst.

I wouldn't care if I get flamed. At all.
Reading responses had me saying WTF?...This game looks awesome, then I remembered that I live in Homophobic America and I wouldn't be surprised if they took the character out of the game before releasing it in the US...

Anyway, looks awesome to me and I will be picking it up....nothing kills like a little smooth Jazz!
Actually, it isn't that he is gay that makes people not want to play it. I am guessing it is the level of gayness(i.e. NO ONE IS THAT fuckING GAY YOU ASSHAT!). The annoyingness isn't cause he likes the comapny of penis in butt, it is the voice. He could be a straight man with all those powers, but if he had an annoying voice, it would still turn off a lot of players. At least that is for me. Seriously, think before you make ignorant opionions. Get off your high horse fag hag cock juggler.

IGN's review wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either... considering that I don't absolutely need to play a mediocre RPG right this second, I can't see myself playing this... probably ever. Seems like a typical FROM Software offering... completely meh.

Was it worth you looking like a total ignorant douche just to use a couple of curse words and slurs? I'm convinced you doubled your actual age, because there's no way someone can be that baselessly hateful at 25 unless they were born and raised in a semi truck or something.

REPORT'D!!!

I'm really enjoying the game right now. The battle system is really strategic, as you have to place your characters for the attacks, and the golem collecting is addicting already, and I'm barely into the game. Also the random encounter rate is kinda high, but all you have to do is hold RT and press start and your characters take care of business. The gay character isn't so bad, he's actually funny to listen to, even if it feels odd. He'll say something so gay you can't help but laugh, and then get a strange feeling like "did I just laugh at that?" At least rent it before you judge it, you might like it.
typical FROM Software offering... completely meh.
Otogi begs to differ.

Although the general consensus is this game is OK, not breath taking. I'll probably pick it up at $20 or less which is bound to happen in a good year or so if they decide to distribute more copies. Everywhere I went I've seen very few copies, except for Best Buy apparently.

I saw this game 2 or 3 times today at different stores... came pretty close to buying it, but I'm kinda glad I didn't now.

This is because you'll quickly learn that the auto battle and fast forward buttons work extremely well. So well, in fact, that you'll probably come to rely on them and let the computer do most of the fighting for you. It's hard to say that you're better off watching the battles than playing them, but the occurrence of battles is so frequent that the fighting can become tedious.

For me, that's a definite pass. Any RPG where the only fun I get out of the battle system is letting the computer play it for me is time I can spend playing an RPG with a fun battle system. Along with this:

Add to this the ability to save anywhere, the option to retry a battle if you lose it, and the fact that you get all of your HP and EP back after each fight and you have a game that requires little mental effort

And this:

The battle system is generic and battles occur far too often for their own good, making for gameplay that can get boring at times. The story delivery needs a complete overhaul, starting with the character's dialogue

I think I'll just hook the PS2 back up and play some Disgaea 2 while I wait for Valkyrie Profile 2... kind of a shame, as the game looks pretty good graphically. I'll get it for $30, though, just to give it a whirl.

it sounds ok to me, some of the very gripes you're having roofus is the same stuff that makes a lot of RPG's tedious. Ex. Pokemon.
I hope it does somewhat well, because from software is one of the main JP devs making games for 360 at the moment

I picked it up too. Surprised to see it came with a slipcover and the novel tucked inbetween. So far its pretty good. Im about 2-3 hours into it.

Its tough to find any discussion on this game. Everywhere I go is a bunch of 12 year olds proclaiming 'gay character!!!!! zomg!!!!!'. Now, Makato IS gay. 100%. It seems the game hits every stereotype possible on homesexuals.
It seems the game hits every stereotype possible on homesexuals.
That's my only problem with it.. I don't care if a character is gay, I think it would actually add a new dimension to a character, but the fact that they had to cram in every stereotype possible and make it painfully obvious he is gay is kind of disappointing.

It's like if an RPG had a black guy, but he cussed, rapped, wore a bunch of gold chains, and ate watermelon all the time. They should have let the fact the character is probably a homosexual be part of the character, not the WHOLE character, just judging from what I saw in that video.

Releasing that video solely of him was a bad PR mistake, too, because I think that killed alot of sales they might have gotten. I'm not surprised that people can't get over that fact, though. I'd honestly be interested to see how that affected sales, if it did at all.

You've also got to remember people aren't really talking about it because Saints Row came out in the same timeframe... that was another big mistake. They should have pushed Enchanted Arms back a week.

Im a couple hours into it. Seems to be a pretty fun game, decent dub (much much better than N3's - even with the homosexual guy in your party), pretty nice cutscenes, good storyline, and one thing my 360 has been craving... Random battles! (Sorry Oblivion :p).

Not sure if its buy-worthy yet (gotta depend on the replay value), but at least give it a rent.

....

Why was my post and Roufuss post about Makota deleted?
Was it becuase he was, gasp, gay? Did we say anything bad regarding homosexuals? Should we delete all the other threads that call people 'gay' and 'homo'? Please, mods, explain to me why a thread about a game that has a clear gay character needs to be removed. I was simply stating how the game hits on every stereotype possibleon homesexuals. I was not saying anying mean or disrespectful.

Considering the thread
"Trailer for Gay Saxaphone Video Game' thread is still up and running.....I am extremly curious as to why my posts were deleted.

Maybe I am just over reacting...but whats the reason?

Not only that, but a good 80% of your post was talking about the game itself and how you liked it, IIRC. It's not like you randomly made a post bashing the game for having a gay person.

I swear some of the earlier posts are missing too.

Maybe CAG has a blackout and lost some of its posting data? Regardless I hope we receive a response. I hope we were not edited out because we were clearly talking about the game itself and not just threadcrapping as I clearly have the game.

Yea my post also got deleted and IMO wasn't bad at all. It was the dord whom threw a shit fit about it. He even went as far as sending me a PM stating i'm sick and disgusting for pointing out my opinion that this dude (Saxaphone dude ) was the gayest video game character ever.

Seriously? I'd love to hear this from a mod. If so I'd like to mod nearly every post on this forum. How many times do I read remarks I don't like?

Well, my post didn't even call names... I just stated how would people have reacted differently if say, a black person was stereotyped, that I thought the stereotypes were stupid to begin with, because rather than make homosexuality part of this guys character, they chose to make it is focus from what I've seen, and that I wonder if that video hurt sales and they shouldn't have released it at the same time as Saints Row.

It's kind of very hypocritical to delete the posts in here yet leave the one open about "a trailer for a gay saxophone game" where it was ok to make fun of the dude for being gay.

Like it or not, this game features an overly homosexual character, which is pretty much a first and caused the game to get alot more recognition than it would have if that video never showed up. Apparently we will never be able to talk about the ramifications of this on CAG though without getting modded.

Alright who's deleting posts about gay people?? Those posts should not have been removed. Ya know what that was a bitch ass move Santa! You gotta pay what you owe! Man....that was gay!

You may not have seen them before they were deleted, but some of the posts were extremely vulgar and hateful. A few people were lacking any semblence of maturity. I can only assume that's why a lot of this thread was deleted, and I fully support the decision of whatever mod did it.

Alot of the messages that were delted were hurtful, but some of mine was deleted also because it called a few of these out. I think the mods doesn't want this thread to turn into random gay bashing #33 thread on GameFaqs, because that place is TRULY horrible and mods don't do crap.

I felt like I had to defend the Gay Community, they get enough flak as it is.

Minor Spoiler about Makato.
(Makato isn't around after the 3rd hour of the game, so the rest of the 47 or more hours of this game shouldn't of been judged the same way. It is a good game.)

So far Im about 65% through the game with 17 hours logged. Simply an awesome game. Anyone who snuffs this game because of the gay overtones is just retarded. This game is MUCH better then Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2. Yes, seriously. I'm sure I'll get killed alive for making that comment, but it seems only 3-4 CAGs even own this game.

Its good to hear something positive about it.

How is the online multiplayer? None of the reviews I read online had anything to say about it other than the fact that it was limited in its options. Personally, the online multiplayer is what has me interested in it because I'm hoping it would increase the lasting value of it. Usually you play an RPG and that's it, there's no reason to touch it again unless it was a spectacular game.

Also, how is it for a casual JRPG fan? I've only played a handful of JRPG that I've liked so I'm kind of on the fence about it.

I'm enjoying it very much--but I've always been a sucker for a turn-based, linear, Japanese-style RPG. Nice to see one on the 360--awful, however, to see its discussion relegated to a series of comments about the sexual orientation of one of the characters.

You know, I havn't even tried the online multiplayer yet. Its so weird to even see it available. I'll give it a shot later. Not sure if there is much to do, besides just fighter a player with there own Golems.

Im not even sure was a JRPG player really is. I know its a Japanese RPG...but not sure how that differs from Kingdom Hearts/FF etc.

PLEASE do not ignore this game because of the apparent gay character (apparent because...well...play the game). There are ALOT of sexual comments in this game between male/female characters. This is a GREAT game, much better then half the PS2 RPGs that come out.

The gay theme really made no difference to me either way to tell you the truth.

The only reason I've been hesitant to pick it up is because all the reviews I've read seem to stress the fact that its painfully generic. Given that I'm not a big fan of JRPGs in the first place, I'm worried that I won't like this one. Then again, one of the biggest reasons I don't like RPGs in general is when you have to talk to a million people in the game to figure out where the hell to go, however, the reviews seem to indicate that this isn't the case with Enchanted Arms.

I dunno, I might go to EB tomorrow and take a look at the strategy guide and the game itself to decide if I want to get it.

The game is pretty linear. There are 2-3 'fetch' missions, but it usually means getting a hammer and returning it to someone. The game tells you where to go the entire way.

This game is pretty good, but the review criticisms hit the mark. I find myself using autobattle to cut through large swaths of random encounters. After fighting the same loadout a few times and winning handily, why not autobattle? The problem with this is the random encounter frequency, the map size and your slow run speed combine to have you fighting the same groups dozens upon dozens of times. Throw in the fast foward button and the game is nothing more than you walking through dead, shiny maps watching movies of random battles, with a button press here and there to move it along.

Nevermind the fact that the game is poorly documented. Everyone is running into the "why is my party starting with 1 hp and ep?" question. I lost a whole run on a dungeon because I was pumping ranged on characters that were actually using "direct" attack skills that just happened to be "ranged" in distance.

It's confusing and poorly explained, which is dumb after that starting tutorial, which painstakingly put you through JRPG 101 training, but touched on none of the proprietary stuff.

Still, it's an amusing game with a charming, albeit bad, story and characters. And the odd boss fight or first time fighting a new loadout of random encounters is interesting.
penny arcade strip and posts about Enchanted Arms today.

Seems like Gabe is just a raving fanboy for the game with his mini review... and he admits he's only put 8 hours into it? I don't know, his whole little segment seemed like he had a "holier than thou" attitude about the game, like everyone else "just dosen't get it".

I also got the feeling he is digging it because it's the first JRPG for the 360. I don't know, I'm more inclined to trust the reviews here from people who have a put amount of time into the game, espically the post 2 posts above me. Gabe dosen't seem like much of an RPG'er unless it's World of Warcraft so I really don't trust his opinion much on which RPG is hot and which is not.

The fact they never really bothered to touch on Disgaea 2 yet are raving about Enchanted Arms is good of odd as well, since Gabe seems to be really digging on the "strategy battle genre" as he calls it. Lately PA as a whole seems to be heavily biased towards the 360.

I think the game is great. Definately better than some of the other J-RPGs ive played. Im about 49 hours into it now, 96% complete. The boss battle is whats getting me. You gotta fight 8 back-to-back fights, i got through the 4th and my god damn 360 froze up. Just tried again and i beat the game. That definately wasnt the kind of ending i wanted to see, can only imagine what the "Sad" ending is...

The random battles bugged the hell out of me. The word "Random" really did explain it. Sometimes i'd go 10-15 seconds without a fight, some i'd take a few steps and have one. Luckily later on (about 76%) the Casino gets a nice new prize skill called "No Random Encounters". Believe me, it helps loads.

Hopefully low sales and bad reviews wont keep MS from bringing over more J-RPGs. I personally cant wait for Trusty Bell.

The little Ubisoft logo on the cover leads me to believe we'll see a $20 price drop (even if its only temporary) in the next month. I've gotten burned by them 1 too many times in the past with their damn quick price drops (even on games that sold well).

That bit Gabe said about reviewers having to put in their game tags for reviews is so freaking on the spot. For years and years since way back when people have wondered if the reviewer really played through the game or even gave two shits about it. Now we have the gamertag and the ability to see just how far they got or what they unlocked. People would not say half of what they do if they had to pony up to not having played through it before slapping a stupid generalization on a steaming pile of shit review.

Well, I promised in this very thread I'd get it when it gets cheap, and I have... got it for $30.

If you check on Ebay you can actually win a copy for less than $30, including shipping!

I don't know if it got a price drop or not but I picked this up for $30 at EB yesterday. From what I've played it's not as bad as people say it is.

Yeah. I bought it at the B2G1 Toys 'R' Us sale, whenever that was.

I've enjoyed the game, from what I've played of it. (15 hours, or something.)
