I have guarded thoughts when it comes to this game. I just can't ever see myself enjoying a JRPG on a Microsoft console. It's not like the developers have a sterling record of creating great RPG's (Eternal Ring, Evergrace). Anyone thinking of picking this game up this coming week, along with Saints Row?

     :wall: :wall: :wall:

you have got to be kidding me...seems like its a joke

be nice if in the options menu you can switch the gayness off

Couldn't care less...

Doesn't really look that good, at all.

I think I recall OXM giving it like a 7-something. I have not seen a lot of game mags review it yet though. I had actually held back from buying Madden 07 till I found out if I should get this. For me a RPG would trump a sports game. Well today I started Titan's Quest so I will be tied up w/that for a bit.

Since I've traded Oblivion back in, I could really go for an RPG. And it's been a while since I've played a decent, linear, Japanese-style RPG. I'm hoping for the best with this one.
Whatever happened to renting?
Some people don't have places to rent from. Also Renting costs money whereas demos are free.
I've seen gayer characters in a game. Shoot, the 2 French shopkeepers in Shadow Hearts: Covenant are mega-gay.
and that game fucking rocked.

I'm picking both this & Saint's Row up this week, but this one is probably my most anticipated of the two. The videos look gorgeous, and it looks like it has a fun combat system. No way would I let a single character keep me from getting an RPG. But if it REALLY bothers people that much:

I've been told that character is only in the first 3 hours or so of the game.

Unless it gets catastrophic reviews I'd expect to get it eventually. By the time I'll likely have a 360 it should well discounted.

I liked Evergrace (although its prequel was a gameplay experimet that didn't work) and Eternal Ring. They were perfectly enjoyable action RPGs that were shifted from the PS1 to be PS2 launch titles. For the right price, of course. They weren't the greatest games but they did far better at reaching their goals than many projects with ten times the budget.

Enchanted Arms is a different genre. The saxophone weirdness seems to draw on the same lunacy as some of the Shadow Hearts series, which also had some blatantly gay characters.

Ok I'm guessing you're all talking about Makoto. Yes he's annoying but not buying the game based on that is idiotic. I'll be putting up a review of this up in a few days with Bullet Witch later.

not buying a game cause one of the characters is gay is the gayest things i have ever heard. Oh and the game includes the Jap audio track.

Reading responses had me saying WTF?...This game looks awesome, then I remembered that I live in Homophobic America and I wouldn't be surprised if they took the character out of the game before releasing it in the US...

Anyway, looks awesome to me and I will be picking it up....nothing kills like a little smooth Jazz!

The gay character seems to only be in there for comic relief as is almost always the case with Japanese games/anime with gay characters. It was actually kind of funny.

i was under the impression he was the main character...which in turn i would find very annoying because of his extreme gayness...if he isnt though then it all is good

I want to rent it first. These days, RPG's have to be damn good for me to buy em because I don't have as much time to invest in several RPGs as I used to. Last JRPG I played all the way through was Shadow Hearts Covenant (I haven't gotten through From the New World yet)

He'll end up annoying you, trust me.
My review should be up on Yahoo in a day or two. Hint: It's not a must-have game.
I'll be looking forward to reading it. Kinda what I was expecting to hear, but I'm curious what the dealbreakers are.

Not if I don't bother with the game...and I don't think I'll bother.

I'm hoping it's okay I know it wont anything special , but I would love to see a decent Japenese Rpg on Xbox for years.
I might have said this b4 but OXM gave it like a 7 I think. But I have not seen any other reviews.
I actually think it was a 6.5. I saw the issue yesterday but didn't care enough to read the review or do more than glance.
What did Xplay give it?
In addition to the 4/5 they also confirmed that the gay saxophone guy dies about an hour in.
You could've put it in the spoiler alert box like the other person did...for those people that were going to play it.
No kidding. That just got ruined for me.

I will be picking this up this weekend. I have been really looking forward to this game. Everyone seems to recommend turning on the Japanese voices, which are included in the game. The voice acting for everyone, not just the gay guy are supposed to be horrible. But I am a sucker for a turn based rpg.

IGN's review was pretty positive - much more than what people here have conveyed toward the game.

Now if only I could get this one for less than MSRP - c'mon Outpost, give me a deal!

Jeremy

It was either this or the Row, and I decided that I would be playing Saint's Row more than this-- hopefully I'll pick it up somewhere down the line :)
