so Cheapy are you going to split this with me? =P~

Shipping was something like $14.50 for just 3 games and a little capsule figure... I can't imagine how much it was on that order.

Another question: Mr. Driller Drill Land is $29.90 on sale... I heard it's not compatiable with the Freeloader, meaning you can't ever save? I heard there is stuff you can purchase, is it not worth buying it if I can't save?

Gamecube dosen't seem to have alot of stellar imports, nothing worth the cost of a Freeloader it seems.

Which version of Densetsu no Stafi would you guys recomend? I'm leaning towards #2 because it's the cheapest, but that also seems to be the only game in the series without a FAQ, so if I get stuck I'm screwed. Also how is Kuru Kururin Paradise?

It's a good game, tho I didn't play it extensively enough to unlock anything. I wouldn't pay $30 for it if you can't save anything. Plus, IIRC, every time you load up the disc, it tries to read your memory card and asks if it should reformat it to be JPN memory card... and if you choose incorrectly, it'll wipe out your card.

Freeloader with a Japanese memory card is a no go, then?

Also, just so it dosen't get lost, does anyone what kind of difficulty curve IIDX Red has? Beatmania US had a very steep and ridiculous difficulty curve.. it went from easy to hard as hell real fast.

I thought for Japanese games on Gamecube memory cards, that you had to have all Japanese game saves on one memory card. Basically, no mixing with american GC game saves. Maybe that's the problem?
Freeloader with a Japanese memory card is a no go, then?
The only way to format a card with the right encoding is w/ a Japanese or modified Gamecube; it doesn't matter if the memory card is imported or not. This is just an issue with a few imported Namco games, as Donkey Konga has this problem too.

Eh, that sucks then, but thanks anyways. Maybe I'll just get Puzzle Collection and a Freeloader, since you save $7 buying them both together. Now if only someone can answer my IIDX question before I blow another $50 ;)

I've heard a lot of people mix US & JPN saves on the same card with no problem, so I think that's okay. I never did it because the Freeloader warned against it, but now I always do it cuz I'm afraid I'll accidentally wipe out a card.

Arg, I finally broke down and bought a few things. Really wanted Another Century's Episode 2 (PS2) but I resisted and only bought these....and used my $5 coupon.

Bleach Chara Fortune Collection Gashapon US$ 3.90

Yu Yu Hakusho Forever (PlayStation2 the Best)
(For PlayStation2™, Japanese, NTSC J) US$ 19.90

Naruto Narukiri Gashapon 3 US$ 1.90

Naruto Plush Pouch - Model A: Naruto Frogbag US$ 7.90

Bleach: Hanatareshi Yabou (For PlayStation2™, Asia, NTSC J) US$ 9.90

Tales of Symphonia One Coin Figure Series US$ 7.90

Well I caved, at least I had a coupon though

Naruto Collection Candy Toy - Day Shade Special 2 US$ 5.80
Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 3 US$ 29.90
FreeLoader US$ 15.90

I grabbed some Nintendo DS games, Guilty Gear Dust Strikers (US) for 24.90 and Polarium (US) for 14.90.

While I was there, I figured I'd also pick up Rockman ZX.

Not all of this was on sale, but I picked up:

Comfortable Touch Pen DS Lite
Densetsu no Stafi 4 / Legend of Stafi 4
Kuru Kururin Paradise

Especially looking forward to Stafi and Kuro Kururin after the recommendations here.

Cmon, someone, I want to get my order in tonight, but I don't want to drop $50 if the game is going to be impossible :(

Am I going to need a new memory card for Japanese PS2 games?
I'm buying the SwapMagic thing, so I won't have a problem with imports.
Is there a possibility of any damage being done (aka: data being deleted) on the memory card? Should I buy another one?

Also, does anyone have a link to a coupon?

Thanks

Nope, no danger at all. I used my coupon on my order already...

I was interested in Another Century's Episode 2 as well. Have you played the first? I've been reading up on it and it sounds awesome. How much japanese does one need to know to enjoy it?

Arg... another $160 worth of stuff in my cart, not sure if I can pull the trigger =X

IIDX Red
Kid Icarus GBA
Denetsu no Stafi 2
Kuru Kururin Paradise
Nintendo Puzzle Collection
Freeloader
I'm pretty sure that will drop to $30 fairly soon in the US (Capcom Classics).
Ahhh, thanks for talking me out of that one. You are indeed the "voice of reason".

I still need to be talked out of "Radilgy: Generic" for GCNJ though. ;)

I heard it was a pretty subpar shooter? I mean, if you want a shmup, pony up the cash and get an amazing one, like Ibara, or ESP Galuda, or Dodonpachi Daioujou.

Or get Saikyo Shooting Collection Volume 2 for PS2 for $19.90, Sengoku Ace + Blade are supposed to be ok.

If you don't have a PS2 and are really hard up for a shmup, I guess then get Radilgy.

Graphics look like shit, too, and it's supposedly easy. Read some of the user reviews for the PS2 / DC version... someone on play-asia wrote a really long information review on the DC version.

I'm sure most stores are probably cleared of these games anyway, but you might want to check out a local CC just in case. And you'll probably find someone trading one of those in the Circuit City trade thread. Also, Polarium is $9.99 at Best Buy.

If you're not in the US, then nevermind this post :whistle2:#

Not to mention Guilty Gear Dust Strikers is a horrible horrible game.
I have the Nintendo Puzzle collection. Its good, you get Dr. Mario, Yoshi Cookie, something else I forgot, and the best game of all 'Panel de Pon' which we know as Tetris Attack, or Pokemon Puzzle League.

And the game comes with a GBA link cable, and you can load portable versions of the games onto your GBA that stay in memory until you turn the unit off. Every morning I used to load Panel De Pon onto my GBA: SP and take it on the bus with me to work.
Does this work with the DS?

Thanks for the advice. I don't have an import-capable PS2, so Radilgy is probably it. I haven't owned or played a shmup in a looong time, so maybe it really is worth it for me.

I should've kept my DC....

Track down Ikaruga for GC.

Trust me.

I wish. Looks like the best route is ebay, and I don't wanna ebay. :whistle2:(

$40 on Ikaruga is alot better than $40 on Radilgy... if you haven't been into shmups in awhile, jump in with one of the best ones, not a mediocre one.

I think EB / GS sell Ikaruga used for $25, could do a store locator search.

I'm in for Big Brain Academy for $20 with free shipping to Japan.
Should I start picking out my free PS3 games yet?

I think they want $34.95, but I believe you're right. And it's still cheaper than Play-Asia's sale on Radilgy, with no Freeloader necessary. I'll have to try my local GSes soon. Thanks again!

Shoot, if you need a Freeloader, you're looking at about $60 for shipping of everything.

If you really want to get back into shmups, look into all the options available on the PS2... flip top, slide card, swap magic, there's so many cheap affordable options now that don't involve modding!

My shipping was $180... so I spent almost a grand altogether. It's ok, I save up for one big import spree a year.

BTW, if you want to get a great Gamecube Game, Kururin Squash is one of the best games for the Cube, import or not. Get it now, thank me later. Get the GBA games too (Play Asia only sells Kuru Kuru Paradise right now, but it's worth $15 easy. I just bought a second one as a gift to my mother).

Mr. Driller Land does require a Japanese Gamecube. Even modded ones don't work so hot with it and might not save. It's worth buying at the price even without being able to save though. Just make sure you take your memory card out.

BTW, I can read Japanese... sorta. Being a frequent importer, I have picked up on some of it. One of these days, I'm going to take a college class or something.

Thanks for the deal, whoever posted it. You made my year, regardless of whether I win or not.

PS: Anyone here have a Mr. Pants they're willing to trade? If so fire me a PM with a wishlist. I'm also looking for Bonk for the Gamecube, imported. I need the Cube game to be complete... I'll take an authentic non-bootleg version of Mr. Pants loose.

I was going to send you a PM about some non mod mods but for some reason, I can't PM you :(

I'm debating on whether or not to buy something. I've never bought an import before. I've got a question: For GC should I get a freeloader or an action replay? Freeloaders are 15.90 + shipping when you also buy a game, and my local CC has action replays for $19.99. My PS2 doesn't read my AR disc very often so I don't know if the GC version would be problematic too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get Action Replay over Freeloader. It does the same thing plus a lot more.
Still, for GC imports, it's best to get your system modded...

I should mention that when purchasing large quantitites of items from Play Asia, it is often cheapest to place several small orders rather than one large order. The shipping can come out a lot less overall that way.
Plus, you'll get a $5 off coupon with every single order, which means big savings later on too - until the coupons expire, so post 'em here if you do't need 'em!

Roufuss--I wouldn't mind you shooting me a copy of that PM as well... I've shyed away from PS2 importing for quite sometime, sticking with the 'easier' Cube and DC games... maybe you could sway me ;)

Someone please stop me from checking out. It's so tempting!

IIDX Red
Under Defeat
DDR Strike

The only reason why I feel the need to get IIDX Red and DDR Strike is because I have all the other IIDX/DDR games that came out in Japan. So tempting though...darn you Play Asia!!!

oops, sorry. I was messing with my profile a while ago and must've turned that off. i'll turn it on again.

It just so happened that there's a GS near me that apparently has the only used copy of Ikaruga on the entire island at the moment. I just came back from there now. They wanted $29.99, but copy they had was disc-only and looked like shit. So I guess I'm still on the lookout for this.

edit: huh, there was an option that was right under my nose. Toysnjoys has the import version new, sealed for a reasonable price. I just placed an order w/them, hope it works out.
I didn't like DDR Strike. There doesn't even seem to be much info on it, even at ddrfreak.
Bleh I don't mind the idea of getting the Cutey Honey theme song on a DDR disc, even if it's generic. Also as well as having the Karaoke Rev. songs it was suppose to have more on the disc in general.

"Rule Of the Rose" should be added to that sale banner. Last I checked it's $15 for the Chinese version and I THINK the verbal dialgue is in English. My friend was even raving about this game saying it was the best RPG he played for the PS2.
