also, i am a lil peeved at the game. I played the game for like 3 hrs with a buddy finding all sorts of new animals, but apparently that doesnt do squat for single player cause all of my work didnt show up on the encyclopedia

I played this for like an hour this morning. Is there an eventual treasure hunting element added? That gave you somewhat of a goal in the PS2 one.

I need to throw some more mp3s on my card before I play again, the ones I have on there for Excite Truck are not acceptable

Nothing as mundane as treasure, but there are a number of unique, jaw-dropping OMGWTFBBQ things you can find in the game by achieving certain goals.

I'm not sure if this has been said. If you dive wiht a partner, your partner can point out fish and items you may have overlooked. It will squeal and point to something for you to focus on. It's quite handy when looking for small pieces.

Okay, my kid went over to a friend's house yesterday and played this game for 2 hours. Now he won't shut up about it.

All last night and today I had to hear: "Dad- you should really think about taking that game you just bought back and switching it for Endless ocean." And this one: "Dad, if you ever wanted to suprise me, or something, just get me that Endless Ocean game."

What kind of kiddie crack did they put in this game?

Beyond being really pretty, I didn't think they did. I thought the game play would be too slow for kids.

Well I guess if kids just like pointing and touching things they really shouldn't touch. Like sharks.

Holy crap, this happened to me too! What a coincidence...that fact really does suck becasue it dissuades you from playing multiplayer. It really is quite frustrating when you find something new in multiplayer (besides trinkets and treasure, which you do store for good) and you know you will just have to find it again when playing alone.

It's weird. I played it for an hour and found it somewhat boring, and thought maybe I shouldn't have ignored all the reviews. Then i played it for a few more hours, and it's incredibly rewarding to find rare stuff, either by chance, or by looking places you've never looked before. It's really a great game, and honestly my only complaints are the lack of speech--I have no problem with this in games like Zelda, but in a game like this that I allow my daughter to play, it get super old having to read everything out loud--and the fact that the otherwise beautiful graphics are totally jagalicious.

I have this thread suscribed, and I like to come read it every so often to see what people are saying. I really am surprised about all the good things people are saying about this game. When I first heard of it, I thought "LOL?????". Really good to see this is a chill & pretty enjoyable experience.

Should I just go ahead and get this for my wife? She loved Nintendogs for a couple months but then got bored with it (school didn't help). I keep debating on getting this because I don't want her to get bored with, but she does love animals.

Just checking

Yeah like I said it really is a must buy for people into the ocean, fish, marine biology. The names of the fish are accurate and real, and as a PADI cert. diver myself, it is amazing how much of the look and feel of diving and underwater exploration they recreate.

It is jagalicious though (and brave of you to say considering the prevalence of Wii fanboys who like to flame as soon as someone says the Wii's graphic could be better) but overall I'd say it is one of the better looking Wii games, at least when you're underwater.

When you're above water on your boat, it is hands down the worst graphics I've seen on the wii (and this includes VC games...just kidding...kind of). The boat graphics are really bad. Luckily this is a very small minority of the time spent in game.

Has anybody else set up voicechat via XBL to communicate while playing? It works well. Are we going to have to do with with Smash bros?
What would you need voice chat for this game?

"Look! A flounder is nibblin at my balls! Tee hee!"
Exactly!

Seriously though just to shoot the shit: 'come over here and check this out" "want to move the boat?" "look at my stupid dolphin!" Just for whatever. It's more fun to be able to talk and being restricted to the stuff they give you "wait" "follow me" just sucks.
 I'm kinda aroused
You remind me of the guy who I took on a dive and he was amazed at the Humphead fish. I must be 12 because I was cracking up.

I have a question.

I have an SD cad with about 12 songs on it, and I can play them all via the deck radio, but when I dive I can only select the song that's playing and the 2 default songs. The rest are labeled "??". Is there a way to set the other MP3 tracks so I can use the D-pad right at the dive screen to select what song I want?

I think while diving you find stuff that unlocks more songs. I really am not too fond of the ones with lyrics, I like Manoai embrace or whatever its called but the ones with women singign are a little too...umm..monkish/yoga for me.
Anybody tried co-diving using the Wii60 voicechat work-around?
Yeah, i just posted about it on the last page. It works.

By co-op local you mean splitscreening right? If so the answer is NO!!

NO NO NO! Ha ha.....NO!

On a side note this is the first game I've played online on the Wii ever. It worked well with no visible lag and a pretty navigable menu system. I'll just go ahead and make a cameo to all the typical pain in teh ass friend code exchange complaints (must go both ways and they give you a new different freind code for each game).

Isn't there another diving adventure game that just came out a few days before this one? I seem to remember seeing it in Target maybe? For the life of me I can't remember the title and I'm having no luck finding it on IGN or 1up.

You may be thinking of that Sea Monsters game. It is nothing like EO as far as I know.

Yes you have to be freinds with someone to play online. THe bitch is you can't even know what your code is until you fire up the game. It's a different friend code than the one for your Wii Console which makes no sense to me.

Oh well, minor gripe. I'm looking forward to playing tonight.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ANIMAL????

Mine is: ....drumroll please...................THE.......Green Mandarin Goby! Either that or something called Fingerlips.
What kind of kiddie crack did they put in this game?
Finding different marine life is sorta reminiscent of Pokemon.

Befriending diving partners is sorta reminiscent of Nintendogs.

Exploration is fun in any game.

Add in the no-pressure gameplay and the sheer novelty of a game that doesn't involve blowing things up, and you have a winner. :)

(Got the camera last night, and now I'm finding underwater photography to be fun as heck)
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ANIMAL????
Right now, the
false killer whale.
Have to go back tonight and befriend it. I'd like to find
an orca,
though.

How do you go back to befriend the (minor spoilers about 2 hours into game)
false killer whale? Just repeated visits? If so that sucks b/c it's a bitch to get to.

I am so compelled to befriend that
false killer whale.
I must've whistled to that thing a hundred times last night and still no love. My favorite animal was the
guitarfish
, but after last night I'm really taken with the
swimming penguins, or any of the swimming birds
. They move so quickly and make everything feel even more unreal.

Ah ok, so 1 at a time with the MP3's (unless you tie them together).
I just made a small but decent playset of diving songs.

63.8mb File here

They seem to work pretty good. Only a few with lyrics, and the rest are instrument songs.

Cool - thanks! I've been wanting to do something like this for everyone too but haven't had the time. Do you have a "tracklist"?

I believe you just need to visit it more than once (get two or more "notes" in the animal's information log). You can only get one note per animal per day, so you need to schedule a return trip on a second day.

Ah ha, thanks rjung.

It really is disappointing you can't store the fishyou learn during co-op? Anybody experience this? know of any way around it?

So far my favorite area was the brackish one with the barracud and seals. I think its called either secret lake or green garden.

There are times on the Wii when I can excuse a game's terrible graphics if there are immersive motion controls. And then there are times when the jags make me want to waggle my component cables into a noose around my neck and then throw my HDTV off the roof, with me attached.

So regarding the jags in Endless Ocean, are you playing on component cables? Are the jags bad enough to take away from your enjoyment of the game?

I'm interested in this game, but I'm also afraid of cutting my wrists to sweet release on the jags.

Yeah I'm playing on component cables. The thing is, the graphics are only bad on the boat and for every half hour spent in teh game, you're only on the boat about 5 minutes. Once you go into the cabin, or train the dolphin or whatever area you go to on the boat, the presentation improves, but walking around on the boat is really atrocious.

I think they put it best in teh IGN review where Cassamasina basically said something like "It looks like there were two developers, one for underwater and one for the boat" It really does suck balls compared to the underwater elments.

Is it completely crazy to think that they might have intetionally made the boat portions suck so that the underwater parts seem better?

Ironically, (think I've said this but I'm not sure) I am a PADI Diver and can attest to the fact that, while prepping for a dive on the boat, IT SUCKS!!! Putting a wetsuit on, a BCD (Bouyancy Compensator Device), a weight belt, etc... sucks balls until you get into the water, then it is a whole new world (you love Aladdin, admit it).

So while the boat parts suck especially the graphics and walking, (walking around is just completely fuckin ridiculous. It's like they intetnonally made it horrible just to fuck with us) ALL of that makes up a VERY small minority of the game.

So not getting Endless Ocean b/c the graphics/gameplay of the boat parts suck is akin to not getting Twilight Princess b/c you don't like the start screen.

To answer your question, YES the graphics and walking mechanics suck bad enought hat they take away from the enjoyment of the game for a VERY SMALL MINORITY of the gameplay (above sea level), but NO, at the end of the day it really is a non issue. You won't cut your wrists b/c you won't be dockside long enough to go crazy over it.

Much more problematic for me is the fact you can't store species info while playing co-op.

I'm also playing on component cables on an LCD and nothing graphically has drawn me out of the game. I don't have the boat/overworld problem with the game that everyone else seems to either. The controls on the boat are exactly the same as in the water, it just feels clunky because you're walking and not gliding (which I think only helps to enhance the feel of the underwater segments). I don't think the overworld graphics are terrible either; they retain the feel of the game for me, which is that of a PC game circa 1992.

I tried to cut a corner and give the reporter a photo with a blue tang, but the fish was sort of in the corner. Anyway the bastard didnt accept it. What does this mean? What did I miss out on? will another blue tang request come or is this gone forever? Basically I'm trying to find out what negative consequences there are.

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll get other photography requests later. Just make sure to try and get a quality shot, with the subject nice and big in the center.

And the on-ship graphics don't bother me at all; it's not like I spend a lot of time on the deck watching my guy waddle around...
