It’s that time of year again. The Evo elves have been pounding away in our workshop, and we’re finally ready to reveal some details about this year’s tournament. Hit the jump for the skivvy!

Date and Venue

We’re back in Vegas, but have moved up the tournament date to mid-July. Hopefully this will make it a little easier on the folks who have school in the early fall. This year we are upgrading (ahem) the venue to the Rio Hotel and Casino. This is a great location that, while not directly on the strip, is still in the heart of Las Vegas.
The Games

This is what you really want to know, right? We’re thrilled to have fantastic new games like Street Fighter 4 to sink our teeth into. It does mean that we’ve had to retire some old friends, but we’ve tried to keep a mix between the old and the new on the roster. Here are your Evo games for 2009!

* Street Fighter 4
* Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix
* Soul Calibur 4
* Marvel vs. Capcom 2
* Guilty Gear XX, Accent Core
* SF3, Third Strike, 2v2 team tournament

As usual, we will hold exhibition events on Friday and Saturday night.

* Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Invitational Finals
* Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix 5 on 5 Regional Team Tournament

The TvC event will actually be the final 8 players of a 64 man invitational tournament that we will run before hand. The TvC finals will run just like any other Evo finals.
GameStop Street Fighter 4 National Tournament Tie-In

Evo has also partnered with GameStop in their national Street Fighter 4 tournament. The top 16 players in the GameStop tournament will receive and automatic placement in Evo’s semi-final bracker for Street Fighter 4. This should be a great event that will introduce tons of new players to street fighter tournament action.

I know this year, more than ever... we're going to have fighting game fanboys/newcomers joining the fray of competitive fighting gaming... There is no better way to jump into the community/competitive spirit than by attending here.

Even if it is just to watch, you do NOT want to miss out!

Oh, I just noticed, they settled on Guilty Gear. Looks like I'll have time to eat between games after all.

If enough FGT regulars go, we should split a hotel room, or something. I know I wouldn't mind knocking the price off of a hotel in Vegas.

The date change just makes it oh so easier. :cool:


Edit: A Gamestop tie-in to their SFIV tournament? More pros crushing scrubs at the round 1 tournaments then. :applause:

Huh... kinda a weird game list. 3 versions of Street Fighter, Guilty Gear replacing CVS2, and Tekken 5 being replaced by SCIV... eh, actually most of those choices make sense. But I honestly wouldn't have mised Mahvel Baby if it got the boot.

Obviously, I'd like to go out there this year, and it's nice that this doesn't get in the way of school this time. Are they still doing regional qualifiers?
 
300 round trip? I might be able to afford it... plus keep tabs on it and it might end up cheaper.

I'll also feel around ad see if friends live int he area to stay at.
 
alrighty. Yeah I looked on Jet Blue since they tend to be cheap and fly out of Richmond.
I have not checked the other airlines yet.
 
When I find out the rates guys, I'll let ya'll know.

I suggest staying at the Rio so you guys can soak in on everything.

Hopefully this year Bang the Machine will be screened again ;)

i think i'll go this year. should be fun. need to start training HDR... and that's it? dang. i don't really wanna play sc4, i need to put in a ton of time in that game to get competent.

nope, no sf4. i really dislike the game. after learning HDR i don't really like sf4.

what do you want to know about AX? i can get any info for you as long as it's not confidential, like GoH or concerts. and i still don't know what tournaments to run, but i have an idea on how to run them.

seriously, if ppl want to go I can get a room and all that... if nobody wants to stay with me then the only dood I kno who would smells bad... and he's a last resort so plz save me!!
 
I'm gonna contact one of my homies who went with me last year and find out if I can get something cheaper. We got a cheapo hotel room and cheaper flights, but that was a standby flight, and we ended up having to stay an extra night because of it, therefore breaking my wallet.

Still, keep me in mind Floods, just in case.

i'll let you know

i'm either rolling with squeenix people or with orochi. maybe orochi because he gets comped rooms, and he's a good fg player so i'll have good practice.

fuck yea, we have to make this happen, ive been wanting to meet everyone ^_^

Here are some flight infoz...

I checked a few places... flights going into vegas are anywhere between 100-180+ and leaving vegas from major cities is around 120-150+.

For example.

Miami - $179 to Vegas on the 17th
Leave Vegas on the 20th for $119

Yup, looks like it. I don't wanna have to try and fly standby again, but if I don't have the $$, I might have to bite the bullet.
 
i'll be going but i'll probably be splitting a room with some local homies though.

the rio is very nice, me and my buddy haunts stayed there during evo2k7 because i would always play poker at harrah's casinos and get free rooms at places like paris/rio/flamingo/caesar's.

all about that diamond card jyeah!

Yeah, no Brawl this year. They couldn't reach a compromise with the Smash Community (what with Evo wanting items and all), so they dropped it.
 
I'm going, I'm not sure if I'm flying solo or not yet. I would be down for getting in on that hotel Floods / ReRo if I'm going alone.

I'll try to let you know ASAP.
