Eye of Judgement Discussion Thread
I know it's probably not good for the long-term prospects of the game, but does anyone else feel they're more likely to buy the game knowing that you can just photocopy cards and play? I loved playing M:TG back in the day but one of the things that drove me out was the spiraling costs of staying competitive.

If everyone (or everyone with a color printer) has access to all the cards for online play purposes, it should level the playing field and allow the better deck designs/better players to shine through. Just my initial reaction ...
I am looking forward to playing... I guess I play mostly with friends, family and trusted board members.
GameStop didn't have any of the cards, yet...and apparently won't get them until the game comes out.

UPDATE: Their website has changed to an Oct.25th release, so I guess it was erroneous. Sorry guys, but just only 9 more days.
Yep, that was a let down.

A review from Joystiq is up (positive, overall). Here are some highlights:

+ Addictive & fun gameplay, helpful & detailed tutorials
- Card recognition problems encountered; lackluster game modes

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/16/joystiq-review-the-eye-of-judgment-ps3/

There was no mention on the ease nor difficulty of card copying; however, the reviewer did say it was plausible to "theoretically scan cards that are not your own" for online play. So the idea of unique serial codes tied to each card and your PSN ID after registration seems to be hogwash. Oh well...

Yes, looking like favorable reviews (although not without some downsides) overall. Looking forward to this one, although I'm no TCG'er myself.

Gamezone website review is up: 8.3/10
EOJ received high marks for graphics and innovative use of the PS Eye. In summary,

"Somewhat of a niche game, The Eye of Judgment nonetheless makes the whole trading card game genre accessible and graphically entertaining. The game comes with the map, the Eye, a starter and bonus deck. New decks will be released as the game ages and players can create their own decks from the cards. The Eye of Judgment is one of those games that will fit a chilly afternoon, gathered around the television with a warm cup of tea at hand. This is a fun title and a breakthrough bit of technology."

plus...

VERY SURPRISING scores from renowned Japanese FAMITSU gaming magazine : 8 , 8, 8 , 9
(BTW, Imakibisou for PS3 [horor genre] also receives 33/40 )

Game Revolution Website gives it a B- (lukewarm review focused on the negatives):

+ High tension and competent online mode
- Lacks solo story campaign; mundane interface and undetailed deck editing mode
- ability to cheat thru card copying and tricking the PS Eye

http://www.gamerevolution.com/review/ps3/the_eye_of_judgement

Another confirmation that this game lacks copy protection security. What happened to all the hoopla from the initial PR folks about the preventive measures against cheating with colored copies? Was it all BS?

Only one more week left before sci-fi fans can live out one of their greatest dreams...

This seems like one of those games that is going to be fun for those who try it, but not everyone is going to try it......
and the price is going to drop like a stone before too long

Review Corrections:

US PLAY magazine : 9.5 /10
UK PLAY magazine : 6.5 /10 **

**Reviewer's main gripe was the "game value" VS actual game cost...but remember, UK pricing is like $120-$140 US (albeit, Europeans receive nicer packaging). I feel so blessed living in the US from a videogame cheapy standpoint now.
I can't wait to play this game. I have wanted to get back into MtG, but I have no one to play with. Now I can play online!
That's my situation as well.

The official EOJ website is up:

http://www.us.playstation.com/EyeofJudgment/

It contains the COMPLETE card list with info on what cards are in which deck.
http://www.us.playstation.com/EyeofJudgment/assets/experience/thecards/EyeOfJudgment_CardList.pdf
(For example, the starter deck contains 2 rares only, and multiple duplicates of various commons & uncommons. The theme decks have 1 ultra-rare and various multiples across ALL races & spells.)

There's also a helpful guide on all the details on the card itself.

Thanks for the links! So after seeing the card list is it better to get all the starter decks or a crap load of booster packs and build your own??
Thanks for the links! So after seeing the card list is it better to get all the starter decks or a crap load of booster packs and build your own??
All about preference, but I'm a sucka for mystery surprises...so a couple of booster paks to start for me. If you get too many duplicates, then we can start an EOJ card trading thread. Those theme decks are pretty diversified, though...plus you do get a nifty booklet with tips & background info to flush out the game.

Yet another reason why I think they should have gone the non-collectable game route. These card rarities are just arbitrary printing limits. They could have gone for a more interesting deck building mechanic, or more dynamic cardplay.

Anyone know what the mini games with the camera are?

I think something like chess or checkers would be kinda fun. Uno would be pretty interesting (lord knows i spent so much time playing that on 360).

I got an email this morning saying my amazon preorder was delayed until 10/30. The amazon website has also been updated reflecting 10/30. WTF!! Text below:

************************
Hello from Amazon.com.

We have received new release date information related to your pre-ordered
video game in the order you placed on September 21 2007 08:56 PDT (Order# REDACTED). The release date
for the video game listed below has been changed by the publisher, and we want to provide you with a
new delivery estimate based on the new release date:

"Eye of Judgement"
Release date: 10/30/2007
Estimated arrival date: 11/01/2007

If you would like to learn more about pre-ordering video games from Amazon.com, including
when you can expect to receive your new video game, please visit our help page

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this delay.

I just got approved for a Amazon rewards card, so i used my $30 signup bonus to pre-order the game (figure it would get more use than a couple BR's). Mine says October 30th as well. As far as I can see everyone else is still showing October 25th.

This delay sucks something fierce, I was hoping to get in a good chunk of playing time before GH3 drops, but now my time is gonna be divided. At least King of Fighters XI and Dracula X Chronicles are still coming out on time.

We talked with Sony last night on Evil Avatar Radio about Eye Of Judgment and the whole Amazon email thing. Sony, along with the US Producer of the game itself, have no knowledge of a delay and still stick to the release being this week.

Very odd stuff.

The amazon thing sounds like their distributer is the problem or they way oversold preorders. Did anyone that ordered from amazon have their order shipped? It sucks that we have to wait another week but the CAG in me can't let go of the $59.99 no shipping no tax part. The funny thing is that even though the booster packs I ordered on Amazon did not show a delay they still have not shipped.

Has anyone found booster packs in-store yet?

Right. Amazon isn't always timely with their pre-orders and they will give out conservative delivery estimates if they have any issues with their distributors, so I'd take that with a grain of salt--doesn't mean the game is delayed, just means Amazon may be having a delay with shipping, that's all. We should start seeing the items in-store tomorrow, if anything.
Has anyone found booster packs in-store yet?
Someone on the yahoo forum found the BOOSTER PACKS readily available at the local Toys'R'Us (alongside the Pokemon & Yugioh packs), but the theme decks are still MIA. He was able to scan a snapshot of all his cards to verify his statement. On a somewhat related note, the odds of finding an ultra-rare card is 1 in 7 or 8 booster pks as stated on the backside foil. Gotta collect 'em all!

Only a few more hours...can't sleep...

On a more somber note:

EDGE magazine review gave EOJ a 4/10 score. WTH?!!
Those knuckleheads also rated the following PS3 titles:
R&C: ToD : 8/10
Folklore : 5/10

I'm so tempted to get this. I know the game's going to get "broken" very quickly by people using scanned cards and whatnot, but it still looks like a lot of fun. Plus the Eye itself will come in handy for other stuff. EyeCreate looks fun!

Dude - Amazon does not want me to have this game. I just got this on my booster pre-order. WTF - November 21st? Looks like I will pick these up at Gamestop today.

Hm, I have EOJ Theme decks in my Amazon Gold Box. Is $.75+tax savings worth waiting up to a month to get it? hehe. :)

Looks like fucking Sony messed this up for more than amazon. I was looking at the Official PS Forums and it looks like Gamestops will not get their shipments until Thursday. Some people seem to have had some luck at Bestbuy and found boosters at TRU, BB and Target. Any CAGs have any luck finding the game or boosters?

Damn it all, I'm really looking foward to playing this, but I'm hella broke. I was thinking about trading in a shit load of games, but that would only make things worse

For Chicagoland CAGers, the TRU by North Riverside Mall in Berwyn, IL has the game in-stock. I saw a carton of 4. Good luck peeps, and hopefully see you guys online soon.

Just picked up my copy from two different B&M stores (BB & EB games) since there apparently is some confusion on the actual release dates.

p1010386co9.jpg

just the fact that it's a CCG/TCG makes me burn to get it... I'll pick it up next week maybe if budget allows me >_<

also for those of you with the japanese PS3 RSS news reader with the sony characters, on 10/24 they have news on this game and it looks like February 2008 will see the first card expansion and then June 2008 will see the second expansion... not announced anywhere else actually, but it's official. :)

I went into GS tonight to see if this would be in tomorrow, and was told they're very unlikely to get any copies in, only preorders (and maybe not even those).

Then I was told there were no preorders for it, and it was taken off the list about a week ago. Not sure if this is just because of my location, but this is from a reputable employee, not the usual bullshit I get from other stores. I'm hoping they'll atleast get one in tomorrow so I can grab it, either that or I'll be going on a road trip.

man i really wanna get into this whole EOJ thing but i just dont want to get involved into the whole card collecting thing again -.-

bread's done
