Eye of Judgment (PS3) Pre-order for $60 at Target.com (even less w/ coupon code)

D. Monic

CAGiversary!
Update #2:The eStarland price went up, but Target still has it for $59.99. Use the 10% off code "TGTAFLAF" to make the Target price an even better deal (thanks hwong3). GameQuestDirect.com also remains an option. And thanks to everyone in the thread who provided more info about the game itself.

Update: Amazon raised their price (darn!) but here are some other options (eStarland being the best). But hurry as they'll likely raise their prices soon now that Sony's officially announced the MSRP.

eStarland.com - $55.95:

------------------------------

Yesterday, Sony officially announced the MSRP on this game as $69.99, but Amazon is taking pre-orders for $59.99. This is the first game on the PS3 to include the next-gen Eyetoy camera.

Provided Amazon sells the cards, I'll be using my increasing stockpile of Amazon credit (see sig or PM me) to fund this game :)

So you actually have to buy cares beyond what's in the box?

It does sound really cool though.

Yes. I imagine the physical cards will have some kind of ID code that you can enter into the game to tell the game that you own that card so you can use it in your decks. I wish there were actual rules so I could get a feel for the depth (or lack thereof) in this game.

I got a chance to play this at GenCon and it looks very cool.

Actually, you can store your "decks" on the PS3 hard drive. However, you do this by putting your cards in front of the camera individually so that the camera can recognize them. They also have it so that if you are going to use multiples of the same card, you put all of the duplicate cards out at the same time. That way the game knows you have 2+ of the same card. The process should go a lot faster than entering codes.

As far as depth goes, the positioning of your cards on the field and the way they attack gives the game a lot of depth, not to mention how the kind of field your character is on could give you bonuses. The way the card faces also affects where you can attack and defend.

The animations in the game are very cool, but they are short enough that they don't make the game go on forever. You can turn them off before starting a game if you want to though.

If you have more questions, I'll try to let you know what I can find out.

What about general rules and such?

E.g., objective of the game, deck min/max/number of duplicates, any online tournament plans, game length, etc

Now that Culdcept Saga has been delayed on the 360, I'm really hoping this will tide me over for my card/strategy fix until it releases. Thanks for any other info you can provide :)

The 1up Show from 9/14/07 has a pretty lengthy segment devoted to this game--check it out here: http://www.1up.com/do/minisite?cId=3145462

Amazon raised their price (that was fast!) but there's still hope for those who want to save some $$ on this game. I updated the OP with some other sites that haven't raised the price yet. Good luck.

Quick question. How does the game prevent someone from cheating? Like is there a way the camera can make sure you don't take a peek at the top card of your deck?

Your store your deck on the PS3. When playing online, the PS3 shuffles its virtual deck, and draws cards for you. Once a card is drawn, you have to show the physical card to the camera to prove you have it.

A little more information is on the PS Blog:

Well from what I heard, it scans your card so it takes inventory. The game will have your cards and there will be a virtual deck. It will shuffle and all the good stuff and you will play with that within the game. I think having the actual cards is just for verification so you don't pull out a new card that wasn't registered or change your cards when the other player isn't looking.

In short, I guess the cards are just for scanning and verification.

For those of you who want to order it from Target.com, here's a 10% OFF COUPON that works (I just used it):

TGTAFLAF

It totalled $61.75 for me with shipping and tax ($59.99 - $6 + $2.99 shipping + $4.76 tax in NY). It's a little bit more than eStarland in total, but remember you can return or exchange this at your local Target in case somethign happens, so I feel safer about it. Enjoy!

Pretty cool Press kit was sent out recently, wonder if the actual game will come with all this.

Games Radar received delivery of a rather fetching Eye of Judgment press pack, which you can see in the image below. Contained inside its four drawers was everything needed to play the game, including magic cloth, deck of cards, PlayStation Eye and, of course, the game disk. Also contained in the box were some fresh screens and a new movie, taken from the game's introduction sequence.

Is that TWO Blu-ray discs I see? Damn, I didn't think we'd see a game that needed 100GB for a while (or ever, lol). But it kinda defeats the purpose of a Blu-ray disc with OMG! 50 GB if there are still games that need more even now. I just thought it was ironic, is all.

I'm guessing one is a bonus disc (making of, trailers, etc) or maybe the camera drivers for the ps3.

I want this, but I am going to wait till I can see how the game plays... after that I'll decide... plus the game has a strong possibility to be abused by cheaters with color printers and scanners >_
any chance of a port to the x360?
is the vision capable of a game like this?
The chance of this coming to the x360 is the same chance that you would laid by Eva Longoria, which is none. haha.

It''s made to use with the PS Eye, so it's exclusive to the PS3

I'm going to bring this up in a new thread under x360. i smell a debate brewing.

There's absolutely zero chance of this happening regardless of the technical issues, because the game is first party.

I think the Playstation 3's camera is supposed to be higher resolution than the 360's, so there's a chance that there would be a technical issue at play too (presumably everything else about it could be done on the 360 I'd think).

My only problem with this is that it costs $70 and you still have to buy the cards. But damn if it doesn't look cool. Wait for this to come down to $30 and by then the cards will be on sale i'm sure :)

I was out of the loop this weekend, but I just updated the OP and the thread title to emphasize the Target deal now that eStarland has raised their price.

Target's price with S & H and with the 10% off is $61.39. For those who jumped on Amazon's deal, that was still cheaper

I would be all over this, but having to buy physical cards is shit, so sony can go fuck themselves. If it were an established game (Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh, hell even Vs.) maybe, but the game itself could VERY easily be complete shit. Just not worth it, IMO. And to respond to an earlier comment: Yes I believe the Eye toy 2 (or whatever the hell they are calling it) is much higher rez than the 360 camera.

Blister packs are dangerous. Cut at your own risk ;)

While it does suck that it won't be in a pretty box, it'll be better from a Marketing approach. People will be able to see what's included, and hopefully it'll sell better. That way, the game won't be a flop, and we'll get lots of online players AND expansions :whistle2:D

Family video has it for $62.99. Use the $5.00 coupon to get it under $60.00.

Also, Walmart has it up for $65.00. Not $60.00 but at least a different option.

That's all I could find in terms of deals left.

Wish I had seen this sooner.
