Fall 2008 Nintendo Press Conference- MEGATONS DROPPED! DSi, Punch-out!!, Sin & Pun. 2
So what music do people have queued up to play during this weenie roast?

Personally I'm rocking the Monkey Island 2 soundtrack. That means I am way more awesome than you are.
Music? Lame. I'm rockin' out while playing some Orbital.
At the pace the Nintendo DS has been selling, you might think that the market has been saturated. But we believe we can still expand it.
Hmm....

Hmm....
I'm not really sure why, but your response made my laugh my ass off.

I think the painkillers are kicking in.
So, just to be clear, does "new DS" mean what the lite is to the original DS, or is it more the DS2?
From what Broly is saying, I'm thinking Nintendo is gambling with the "another pillar" meaneuver again.

I.e., maybe they want a dedicated gaming DS, a more media-capable DS, and their console line.

If that is the case, this conference is about to get a WHOLE lot uglier, since it will 100% undoubtedly be devoted to non-core-gaming functions.

Yeah, no GBA slot in DSi. Activision AM pissed.

It sounds like a phase out of the old DS to the new DS.

IGN: Iwata announces the company's rumored new DS handheld, called "DS-i." Says that Nintendo believes it can continue to expand the market with this newest of devices. The DS-i will be smaller and will also lose the GBA cart slot from previous versions of the handheld.

GameKyo: 6:52 : 12%, 2.6 millimeters thinner, GBA slot will be excluded.

6:51 : It's going from one system per house to one system per person.

Guess that means I'll continue with my original plan to upgrade to a lite.

There's a joke about Japanese men and 2.6 millimeters in there somewhere ....or maybe about Japanese women in there somewhere...

Regardless, there is a joke in there somewhere.

Edit: @pic

Sigh. So it's just another Lite. So far.

Ok, my assumptions in an earlier thread were slightly wrong, and I'm taken by surprise.

i = camera?

Slimmer, slightly larger screens (unconfirmed), camera. Basically DSLite 2.0?

Let's take bets. Nintendo will release a way to have the GBA slot integrated into the system for another 50 bones.
So VC on DSi perhaps? Damnit Nintendo
I know you run around at GoNintendo and saw that IGN speculated this might be their "storage solution."

So now instead of cleaning the fridge, we move shit into the storage shed. Great.

Just fucking rip the SD card slot out of the damned Wii and save yourself the 2 bucks per console, Nintendo.

Whoa, there's onboard memory apparently, so you can load it up with software... like games. You can download games. With Wii Points. Holy cow. Wii Points will be renamed "Nintendo Points."

Watch, on board memory is going to be something like 256mb...

They changed it to Nintendo Points now. I heard something about DSiWare (WTF!?)

EDIT: No VC confirmation yet, sorry.

Glad I can pull this'un out again:

From Wired:

13:59: More from Gemaga. As the rumors indicated, the DSi has a larger screen, 3.25 inches. There's a camera, and an audio-playing function. The camera is... goodness. 300,000 pixels? Is that 3 megapixels? You can apparently edit pictures using the touch screen. When playing back sounds, you can adjust the pitch and the playback speed. Why's that important? Why, for studying languages or playing music by ear, of course.

14:00: There's an SD memory card slot so you can dump your pictures right to Wii's photo channel, for example

14:04: Whoa, there's onboard memory apparently, so you can load it up with software... like games. You can download games. With Wii Points. Holy cow. Wii Points will be renamed "Nintendo Points."

13:58 DS Ware will be able to be downloaded from the Nintendo DSi Shop.
13:59 Titles will be placed into Free, 200, 500, and Premium (800) categories. DSi systems that connect by March, 2010 will receive 1000 Points as a gift.

Gemaga (Google again):

13:59 無償、200、500、プレミアム(800)のカテゴリーを用意。 13:59 free of charge, 200,500, the premium (800) for the category. 2010年3月までに、1度でもDSiにつなげば1000ポイントプレゼント。 2010 until March, at one point DSi 1000 to present together.

14:02 nintendo zoneビューアを内蔵することで、設定なしでアクセス可能。 14:02 nintendo zone with a built-in viewer, can be accessed without a set.
14:03 カラバリは、ホワイト、つや消しブラック。 14:03 KARABARI, white, matte black. 発売日は11/1、価格は税込み18900円。 Release date is 11 / 1, the tax-inclusive price of 18,900 yen.

But what the hell? The DS has been out for like 3, 4 years? If there's a higher resolution, two touch screens, then it's a whole new damn system!

3 Megapixel?

Bit low.. my cell phone can do better.

BUT - smaller with larger screens.. if the quality of those screens improved.. Then I might get one instead of the lite...

(my current DS is one of the big originals.. been considering getting a lite for a while now)

The pictures dont look MUCH different from a lite though
18900 yen, November 1 this year in Japan. Rest of the world next year.
$180 does seem a little steep since it is competing with the PSP, which so far seems to have more features.
18900 yen, November 1 this year in Japan. Rest of the world next year.
Isn't that the same price as a PSP in Japan?
18900 yen, November 1 this year in Japan. Rest of the world next year.
That's $178.586 USD at today's exchange rate. I'm expecting $179.99 here in the states.

^ beat me to it.

14:10: The "DS Station" download kiosks in Japanese stores will enter their "second phase." A new service called "Nintendo Zone" will be started, which you can also use at McDonald's. (This must be the "strengthened internet communication" that early reports from Nikkei discussed.)
14:11: Nintendo DSi will be released in white and black color variations, and launch on November 1 for 18900 yen (about $180). Yes, they've just raised the price of Nintendo DS a second time. You knew it was coming.
