Fallout 3 - Gen. Discussion & Info - 'GOTY' Edition w/All 5 DLC Packs 10.13.09

Yeah same here, I'm about 22 hours in or so and there is still so much for me to do.

I plan on finishing all of the side quests I can with Good Karma and then replaying it again with Bad Karma.

Can anyone tell me which other side quests I got to do and where to find them? So far I've gotten Those! Blood ties, Wasteland Survival Guide, Replicated Man, Power of the Atom, and trying to figure out where Stealing Independence at, but really just afraid I may finish the game without getting all the side quests.

Yeah, I have no clue where to find the National Archives to steal the deceleration of independance. But I think I know who the AWOL android is, I just need proof
It's just you. Just start talking to people, you'll get quests. This game is WAY better than Oblivion.
I do have quest, but stupid things don't explain how to gain power to blow up the atomic bomb, how do i fix pipes doesn't explain just says not strong enough on everything. Then why the hell they tell me to do it? It is like nothing going everywhere and the people have 4000 things to say and they have nothing interesting that grasp attention. I dunno I think Oblivion is way better then this so far although I only put 4 hours or so into this so far I would assume it to get better.

It's pretty fun to watch the merc getting killed by two mirelocks that I aggravated. I just come in and finish everything else off.

Is there an effective way to kill Super Mutants? I ran into one when I was looking for the Family, and I used up all my assault rifle ammo to get the mutant.

Also, where can I obtain a shotgun? It doesn't feel right wondering around the wasteland without a shotgun.

YEAH, FREEDOM........well almost I am out of the DC city but now I have to find......Vault 112 (dun dun daaaa) And smoke a couple of crazy fools

I was able to play for a few hours today without so much as a hiccup from my 360. Maybe it will be ok after all...?

Please don't die! Gears 2 is almost here

Just use your system less... if all else fails, towel trick.

If i had a game I REALLY wanted, I'd definitely do it.

Well I beat the game earlier today. My Character was level 20 with like 3k caps, 150 stim packs left and my character was good. He can take anyone or anything in the wastes. The way I make money is to find Enclave Soldiers and kill them, then repair there armor and sell it. I racked in a huge amount of caps that way. Gonna play through it again eventually as neutral and evil. But this game was so awesome. It's fun taking on a whole squad of Enclaves soldiers by myself and just utterly destroying them. But the game itself was soooo much fun. I saved right before the end so I could level up more and explore the rest of the map. My opinion about the ending is
that it was mediocre, they could have made it better

Ya Two shots to the head with a combat shotgun almost always does the trick for me. Either that or an assault rifle to the head. I actually rush up them and take the damage they deal out. That way I can get quick kills and cash in on their armor and weapons because I always carry a large stash of stimpacks with me at all times so I don't have to worry about taking too much damage. Man I love this game.

I hit level 20 today and saved right before I did, so I decided to take a quick dummy perk to explore the entire map. Here's a pieced together map with all the marked locations:

It's rather large and parts are crooked/broken, but you only have the pipboy 3000 to blame for using a rounded CRT display. :p
I want more bobble heads!
think we can get a FAQ up for them?
So far I got Medicine and Luck bobble heads.
Bobblehead locations:

Too lazy to write up a list of my own. However I'll warn you now that Energy Weapons can ONLY be obtained from a place along the main quest and that IT CAN BE MISSED.

I was looking in the settings menu today and noticed that the difficulty was set to Hard. No wonder I'm getting my ass buried.

Thanks for the map Draekon, I was going to get that perk for the "100 locations" achievement. And I also want to check out all the buildings.
Now I can save that last perk for something else.

WTF!!!! I am being hunted by The good law bring mercenaries and the Bad Talon Company ones too, my status says

Very Evil

Urban Superstition

How the hell do I stop them......crap....I am low on ammo again

after you talk to Moriarity, he says to go talk to the junkie in Sunnyvale. I thought she would be in the school but I didn't find her in there so they question is, where is she then?

I am loving this game so much. It was a little shaky at first, but once you start collecting some good guns and ammo, it improves tenfold. I never thought there would be an open world game that I'd enjoy more than Oblivion, but this just takes it to a whole new level.

When you're at "Very Evil" I believe everyone is after you.

I'm at "Very Good," and I just have to deal with Talon Company Mercs. It works for me, since I use their armor and they are not that hard to take down.

Whew, just finished the game. Man did I play it waaaaaay too much. I hope to god I don't neglect life again with Valkyria Chronicles next week.

Great game with a medicore ending. Still debating whether or not to get the karma level achievements. I have over 500 saves, so finding the right ones before I hit those levels would be a bitch...

I remember watching a tech demo from Bethesda where they mentioned you could create your own weapons? Does anyone know how this works?

You find the schematics randomly for each different weapon and have to find a workbench to craft it. It relies on your repair skill. The workbench looks like a vice and they are scattered throughout cities/areas in the game.

I think I may have received schematics from someone for completing a mission earlier on in the game, but never got around to checking it. Thanks.

Can anyone tell me where I can get trained for power armor? I just picked up a couple and can't use them because of the training req. Also, what's an easy way to increase how much weight I can hold?

I love the V.A.T.S. system too. I wouldn't like the game as much without it.

For the tranquility lane mission, just curious but
did anyone do the fail safe with the Chinese Communist invading and killing everyone? I Didn't know about it until after I killed everyone and thought can only do bad karma for it

I believe you talk to the person outside the Citadel to get trained for the Power Armor. I'll recheck tomorrow just to make sure.

As for increasing the amount of weight you can hold, you can upgrade your Strength S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attribute and get the Strong Back Perk at level 8 to allow you to carry 50 more pounds.

Alright, thanks (let me know if it's somewhere different when you check tomorrow). That kind of sucks about those being the ways to increase it. I remember in the second Fallout using the Power Armor would increase how much you could hold. I was kinda hoping for the same with this.

Yeah, I did. You gain good karma for doing it.

You learn how to use Power Armor at the
Citadel
.

Ahh, I killed some crazy dude called the AntAgonizer, got some cool armor and 100 caps. Also built a Nuka Grenade, Rail Gun, and Rock it launcher

So for someone who's never played this game and doesn't know much about the series, is it fair to consider it as Oblivion in the future? I liked Oblivion, but it seemed overwhelming at first - the game almost seemed TOO big. I'm intrigued by Fallout, but don't wanna drop money on it and realize I wasn't that into it.

I thought the same thing, I had not played oblivion or the past games but decided to give it a shot cause it looked insanely awesome. It turned out to be a good decision, If you are unsure about it rent it first

I am loving this game. Not to far in it yet but having a fun time. Not sure if this is right...just got to GNR tower and
got about 4 sets of power armor and a fat man + 8 mini nukes. I think the BHoS people wanted it for the Giant Behmoth that attacks.
Either way its hella fun screwing around w/ :D

more specific location -
right outside of the GNR tower before the attack there is a guy dead on the fountain.

It's as big as Oblivion I'd say.. it's fairly easy to get lost doing side quests and such. There's a ton of similarities.. but the environment and combat are not one of them.

Yeah,
you're supposed to help them fight the Behemoth with the Fat Man. But you can of course play anyway you want.
I cannot get to Arlington for the life of me. Does anyone have any tips? It's driving me crazy.
Arlington Library?

I just went south of Megaton and around the western side of Grayditch.

It doesn't take very long, and I only had to fight a couple of raiders.
You will have to get past a turret on a bridge when you're almost there. I didn't want to bother fighting it so I just ran.

So I'm finally on track. 2,000 caps, 25 stim packs and 500 ammo for my Chinese assault rifle. Oh and anyone else have the mysterious stranger perk? It's hilarious.

Thanks, I found it, I didn't realize I had to go so far to the south-west before making the turn east into the Library. Usually don't have to go that far out of my way and I was worried I would have to explore a bunch of subway tunnels to find the right one.

One thing that is completely different than Oblivion but kind of the same with Fallout series
is the buying and selling. I got to the point where I'd raid a lot of dungeons in Oblivion and trade all of my stuff in for money and have tons of it, whereas in this I have to trade it towards something I want or if I trade it for caps there is a real set amount the trader has. Example: If I trade something for 23 caps and she only has 25, she is only gonna have 2 if I try and trade with her again. WHile she will get more caps after X amount of time, it eliminates the easy unloading of stuff to certain NPC's as it is in Oblivion. I was hoping to take advantage of that right away, but no go obviously.

Well, the past Elder Scrolls games did do this, (Morrowind did at least). It's a better system I think as it prevents you from becoming rich as balls and just throwing money at every problem you get to in the game. I have played for 10+ hours and I only have like 800 caps, and I am quite frugal!

I took the spoiler away because that's not really a spoiler, heh heh.
