Fallout: New Vegas - Gen. Discussion & Info
What does everyone think will be some pre-order incentives from like GameStop etc.??
After a definite release date is given.
What does everyone think will be some pre-order incentives from like GameStop etc.??
Because there usually is a bonus for A-list titles like fallout
I'm hoping for a New Vegas themed Pip Poy bobble head with the hat and gun, since the CE doesn't include one.
yeah the gangster looking one would have been perfect would have paid $100 if they added it to the current CE

I don't see why not...they already had the engine in place, if anything it might be Q4 but I think it will release by end of year for sure.

You might be right. My company's quarter-end is June 30 (Q3 for the fiscal year), so that's the date I had in my mind. Perhaps release dates follow the calendar year, and not a fiscal year?

Edit: Gamestop says "shipping Oct. 1, 2010". Just in time for my birthday!

Pre-order bonuses are out.

We’re pleased to announce Fallout: New Vegas digital pre-order packs are now available in North America through participating retailers and will be available worldwide soon. The Classic, Tribal, Caravan, and Mercenary packs each contain in-game items offered exclusively through GameStop, Amazon, Steam, Walmart and Best Buy.
More details after the break…

trans.gif
The Classic Pack (pictured above), available when you pre-order through GameStop, contains:

 • Armored Vault 13 Suit – Extensively patched up and dotted with piecemeal armor, this outfit is an homage to the classic ending of the original Fallout.
 • Vault 13 Canteen – This handy device is useful for staving off dehydration and providing a small amount of healing in the Mojave Wasteland.
 • Weathered 10mm Pistol – A well-worn 10mm pistol that packs an extra punch despite its modest size.
 • 5 Stimpaks – Food and water are good for long-term healing, but when the fighting is fierce, Stimpaks help keep Wastelanders upright.
The Tribal Pack, available when you pre-order through Amazon, contains:

 • Tribal Raiding Armor – Pieced together from scraps of armor, this outfit provides protection without impacting mobility.
 • Broad Machete – This heavy-bladed melee weapon does high damage against limbs and can quickly deal out a flurry of attacks.
 • 5 Bleak Venom doses – Useful on any Melee Weapon, Bleak Venom makes short of work of most living targets.
 • 10 Throwing Spears – If you would like to silently pin an enemy’s head to a wall, Throwing Spears are the way to do it.
The Caravan Pack, available when you pre-order through Steam and Walmart, contains:

 • Lightweight Leather Armor – This hand-modified suit of leather armor reduces its overall weight without impacting its ability to protect.
 • Sturdy Caravan Shotgun – Despite its rough appearance, this Caravan Shotgun will reliably fire 20 gauge shells until the Brahmin come home.
 • 4 Repair Kits – Useful for repairing any outfit or weapon, Repair Kits are a valuable tool for any caravaner.
 • Binoculars – The Mojave Wasteland is a dangerous place, but with these trusty Binoculars you’ll be able to spot trouble coming.
The Mercenary Pack, available when you pre-order through Best Buy, contains:

 • Lightweight Metal Armor – Modified for long-range travel, this Metal Armor sacrifices some protection for mobility and overall weight.
 • Mercenary’s Grenade Rifle – Though similar to other 40mm Grenade Rifles in the Mojave Wasteland, this model has a faster reload cycle.
 • 3 Super Stimpaks – When you absolutely, positively, need to keep your blood inside your body, Super Stimpaks fix you up in no time.
 • 3 Doctors Bags – Mercenaries and broken limbs go together like Iguana-on-a-Stick and Nuka Cola. Thankfully, these Doctors Bags take a bit of sting out of the inevitable crushed skull.

Looks great, but Amazon gets the worst of the bonuses, and I'm most likely to order from them due to existing game credits/probably getting one for this game.

According to the post above yours, Amazon gets 2 pre-order bonuses. If that's the case, I might have to go with them.

Exactly like everyone else I'm sticking with amazon despite getting the worst pre-order bonuses. The bonuses are just weight, I'll probably drop them when I hit level 7 or so. Machete is for radroaches, armor will easily be replaceable when I kill raiders for leather, no reason for me to poison the machete, and I only use strength for the ability to carry more weight, so I can't "throw" far.

I will probably order this from Amazon because it will only be a matter of months before the rest of these outfits and bonuses are released for free (or points) later on. Similar to the bonuses that came with Mass Effect 2 and what Red Dead Redemption is getting later on this year.

It doesn't seem like any of those pre-order bonuses will have a lot of resell value. I was thinking about justifying a launch purchase if I could resell a pre-order code for $30-40 but these seem too generic.

You should get your facts straight. The only pre-order bonus that ME2 has released is the Inferno Armor, which was a generic pre-order bonus at most retailers. And it costs Microsoft points to download now.

Red Dead Redemption had three different pre-order bonuses: Golden Guns from Amazon, War Horse from Best Buy, and Deadly Assassin Outfit from Gamestop. No announcement has been made regarding the release of any of those bonuses, and you shouldn't expect it. The two losing outfits from the Gamestop voting contest, the Expert Hunter and Savvy Merchant, are both being released for free later this summer. But they weren't available to anyone as a pre-order bonus.
retail outlet based bonuses are pretty terrible...
agreed, especially if you just have to enter a 'code' in-game or online to redeem them.

might as well put it all on the goty edition, folks.

I'm loving the new weapons, there were not enough explosives IMO in original although mods fixed that. It looks like there are grenade launchers and possibly remote mines? Also was that a super mutant who cloaked?

Interested to see if New Vegas will be different enough to be significant and actually feel like a different game, not a Fallout 3 expansion pack.

I hate to say it, but I venture to guess that Bethesda may be running out of ideas and ways to innovate on the whole "do whatever you want" thing. They have been doing it for a while, and after a few games in a series (Elder Scrolls, Fallout), you would think their idea bank would be running a bit dry.

Hence the reason I had "or points" in parenthesis. :p

Well, technically, the RDR free DLC were pre-order bonuses. Just losing ones.
Kmart is pleased to announce an exciting offer for the upcoming Obsidian masterpiece, Fallout: New Vegas. With a $5 down payment for one of the Fallout coasters below, Kmart will offer a $15 Video Game Savings coupon that will be redeemable the week Fallout: New Vegas releases. This offer begins this Sunday, August 8th! Quantities will be limited and while supplies last only! Limit one per customer.
I don't like the wording. Am I buying one coaster? Two? A set?
One coaster? Weaksauce!
Yeah, if it was the set I would be running over to KMart. Oh well.

Just wanted to clarify it's the full set of 4 you get with your pre-order.

Check out bethblog for more details.

SHC-Gamer says they are limited to 4500.

FIANL EDIT:

So there you have it, not really a preorder. Still might be worth a trip

Hi, this may be the first time that i pre order an item but need some info.
I want to order it over amazon (got giftcard for it) but how much do you pay toward the final price. Amazon doesn't mention it or i did not see it.
Or do have to pay the full prize?

Thanks for the info.

Amazon charges your card on file when the item ships (typically the Monday right before). The only way to pay it off early is to buy Amazon gift cards and apply them to the order.

In the coaster picture, is the top row one side, and the bottom row the other side of each coaster? If they are plastic, I might be buying them. But, I will potentially have $25 in RZ/giftcards to use at BB by then...

Edit: N/m. I just read the blog. but it still doesn't say what material they're made of.

Fallout: New Vegas celebrity casting revealed

Whatever happens in Vegas stays there — even after the apocalypse.

The upcoming futuristic video game Fallout: New Vegas takes place after a nuclear war with China decimates the USA. But Wayne Newton— "Mr. Las Vegas" — survives as the voice of a DJ programmed centuries earlier.

That his essence endures such desolation suggests Newton's spirit "could almost survive anything," says the entertainer, 68, a Vegas fixture for more than 40 years, whose show goes to the MGM Grand this fall.

"Even in the post-apocalypse, there's still Wayne Newton," says the game's producer, Jason Bergman of Bethesda Softworks. "I think he got a kick out of that."

In the latest title in the hit franchise (out Oct. 19, $60 for PS3 and Xbox 360, $50 for PCs, ages 17-up), players hear from "Mr. New Vegas" as they explore the irradiated Strip. (In Fallout's story line, it's 2280, more than 200 years after a nuclear holocaust.)

 • Newton joins a marquee cast that includes Matthew Perry (Friends), Zach Levi (Chuck), Kris Kristofferson, Michael Dorn (Star Trek: The Next Generation) and Felicia Day (The Guild). Ron Perlman (Hellboy) serves as the game's narrator, a role he has played in several Fallout games, including the 1997 original.

The quips delivered by Mr. New Vegas include suggestions to listeners to keep "living the dream." The character, Newton says, "has a perverted sense of humor."

The designers created the role for Newton "because he is Las Vegas," Bergman says. "He really brings that extra touch of Vegas class to the game. ... And whether he's reading news stories about super mutants or introducing a Dean Martin song, his personality comes through."

"I have never been in a video game before and, frankly, have never played, simply because I have been working my whole life," Newton says.

Newton says he'd read the dialogue — one-liners in some cases, two or three lines in others — and "do them just a little bit different, each one, until we hit on what it was the guys wanted ... where it is Wayne Newton, but it's not Wayne Newton, you know?"

Could be awesome.
