Fantastic deal for people with Hastings within distance (4 for 1, PS2) B&M

I have done this numerous times and it works to perfection. First stop at a local Wal Mart and pick up the 3 pack of PS2 racing games (Ford Racing, Corvette, Super Trucks Racing) for $10. Then stop at a Gamestop or EB and find the cheapest unscratched PS2 game you can, usually $4 or $5 Max. Then open the three racing titles and take the four opened games to a Hastings and trade them in for a new PS2 title up to $59.99. This works flawlessly, however you need to be 18 and have a state issued Identification card, or a Driver's liscence. So far I have picked up MGS3, Taiko Drum Master, and Time Crisis: Crisis Zone, which retail at Hastings for a total of $170 all for around $50. If you have the time to do this it is well worth the money you save. However the one stipulation is that you can only trade platform for platform (Ps2 for Ps2, Xbox for Xbox etc.) Since I don't know of a 3 for $10 game pack for Xbox I only do it for PS2. However if you want to grab 4 $5 XBOX or GCN games this would work just the same.
Whatever. It doesn't matter what I say, you're all going to call me a jerk or a narc or something just because I and other people are GRATEFUL for this amazing deal and actually trade in decent games that they can resell.
With you 100% Scorch. What the OP described works, but if used frequently, is an abuse of the system. Sure it works, but that doesn't make it the right thing to do.

Now, I don't expect that everyone will do the right thing, but come on people, think about this deal beyond just yourself. Like Scorch mentioned, if all you do is trade in those crappy racing games, pretty soon your Hastings won't have much to choose from. They'll be slammed with copies of crap games, won't be able to sell them, and thus, won't be able to buy new games to sell.

Now i'm not saying that you have to trade in nice games. Hell i'd encourage you to go find 4 $5 games and trade those in. Trade in some of your old games (do you really play them all?). By all means get your money's worth out of this deal, that's the purpose of it. But don't abuse the system. That only leads to the deal being canceled. So then you'll really have something to bitch about.

Damn, there's a Hastings like 20 mins from here, but its outta town. :(
are you serious? you're whining about a 20 minute drive? get over it! geez!

The nearest Hastings to me is nearly 4 or 5 hours away! I live in Florida and the closest one is southwest of Atlanta, GA. The closest Media Play is in Macon, GA, which is 3 - 4 hours away! Get over it!
Do you have GameRush (I don't). I would guess there might be a Rhino near you. Rhino is cool.

No GamRush within 50 miles. There's a Rhino Video back in my hometown, but that's 200 miles away! We have a good local place called Games4Less, but they're about a 30 minute drive from my house, so i don't get there often, and they don't really have any great trade-in deals that i know of.

Just to add something constructive to this thread...
I've done two trade-ins in the past two days.
For the first time, I had some games denied:

PS2 Sled Storm
PS2 Turok Evolution - t3h sh0ck!!1!1one!

I was actually expecting Turok to fail, and had some games with me just in case of such a contingency.

Maybe we should start compiling our own exclusion list of games that Hastings won't accept? Seems like a worthwhile endeavor if there are many here who do the deal often and would like to contribute.

No, because everything is YMMV. There's no set list aside from sports games. Stuntman wouldn't work for me and I tried again 2 weeks later and it worked.

Hastings can deny any game they want. If they are not selling the games in the racing 3-pack why do they accept them? Walk over to wal-mart, espcecially this time of year, and look at how many clueless moms have grabbed this for their kids. At my wally world their are droves of them. I can tell you for fact these people are not trading them in to Hastings, about 1 block away.

It is only bad for Hastings if they can't sell the games they get. So, if Hastings can sell the games for what they want, and you get the game you want, it is a win-win situation. I don't see how that can be considered an abuse of the system.

From what you are saying, if I don't lose on the deal, and hastings greatly profits from my loss, it is NOT an abuse of the system. That makes so much sense! I see the light!

Give me a break Chief!

No, it is not YMMV. The system will only take games that are worth at least 2 dollar trade in credit. Turok for ps2 does not work, but the gamecube version does. Tried it at several stores and it still won't accept it.
Here's a list of known games that do not work:

Turok PS2
Ejayclubworld PS2
Mojo PS2
Music Maker PS2

They only don't accept the ULTRACRAP games, so if you think your games are worth 2 bucks credit, go for it.

Actually, it is YMMV. The $2 limit applies here, but a friend's Hastings in Arkansas has it at $3. Keep in mind that Hastings will pay more for games they don't have instock, so maybe your store has a surplus of those games. I can definately tell you it's YMMV, because back in August, they offered me $22 in store credit for Nascar Thunder 02, which the EB down the road was selling for $6.99 used.

I just tried this today. Looks like they updated their systems so it wouldn't let me trade the 3 pack. I'm not sure if it was an error since the employee said that none of the games that people tried to trade today were accepted by the computer. I'll go back and try after Christmas. I hope this deal isn't over. If you don't stop posting this, more people will find out and our fun will soon be over! :)

Actually, there is two Hastings in Arkansas that have the dumb $3 limit. But, I found one in Benton (Either Benton or Jacksonville, but it is Benton...I think) that has a $2 limit. Got Burnout 3 and Def Jam:FFNY this way a couple of months ago.

My Wal-Mart is officially out of the 3-pack...though I only traded it in twice anyhow.

This is definitely a sweet deal, though. I've used it to pick up Donkey Konga and X-Men Legends in the past week, and I'm thinking about doing it to pick up either Baten Kaitos or Metroid Prime 2 with some other spare games I've got lying around.

Welcome to CAG. We love each other and don't try to hide deals from each other.

If your mentality is to hide deals from each other, Welcome to Fatwallet.

If you think we're really here to hide things from one another, then you're probably on the wrong site.

Why would we post about it if we didn't want others to know about it?
It's exactly like the deal at Media Play, except you can't use sports games.

I'm lucky enough to live in a town where I can trade three sports games for $25 at a local shop, TWO stores that do 4 for 1s, in addition to an EB, TRU, Target, and a GameCrazy.. so I want to share with everyone :)
The trade-in Tuesdays lists are very specific in the Musicland Group stores- MediaPlay, Suncoast, Musicland, Sam Goody... They have a list printed of what they will and won't take. They got wise early to the cheapy game trade-in deals, and usually don't have those listed as acceptable games. Same goes for movies. Usually, they only take offical studio copies, not those 5.00 public domain dvds.

I should know, I used to work for 'em.

Well, trade-in Tuesdays are dead, or at least mortally wounded. It is no longer a 4-for-1. I posted details a while back. As far as a printed list is concerned, I never saw one, and none of the employees ever referred to one. They scanned the items, and it was up to the computer whether or not to accept it. I only got a chance to do it a few times, but it had advantages over Hastings, such as allowing one to pick a new item that was above the limit and pay the difference between the limit and the item (e.g. trade 4 games, then pay $10 and get a $60 game).

3-Pack does not work for me either

Games that did not work:

Xenosaga
Mad Maestro
Turok (PS2)
XIII
3-Pack from Wal-Mart
Sliphead

Haha, sucka. XIII works fine at mine, mainly because the system hasn't been abused yet. I'm glad they're cracking down, though.

I guess that I'll know soon enough if Turok or Mad Maestro work.. I have to use them in a trade :?

I just did this trade-in again yesterday, and the Wal-Mart 3-pack worked fine then...that was my third time trading it in. I paired it with a Primal I got for free at TRU, and got Baten Kaitos in return for those four. The only games my local Hastings has turned down have been Turok Evolution and Sled Storm, both for PS2. They even took Haven. :D
