Wow I'm seriously getting this game day one, looks amazing and the reveiws so far, Xbox Mag UK gave it a 90% and PC Gamer gave is a 94%. I "dug" the first on PC and 360. I'm wondering if I should preorder from Gamestop to get a free upgrade to the LE.
how did you get it? I might get it today since Gamestop store managers got free copies at their convention and my friend just happens to be a store manager.
I've been waiting eagerly for this game, though it'll be hard squeezing out the playtime it deserves in between Fable II and Gears 2. It may be 2009 before I really put a pounding into the story/Map Creator/MP.

Interesting, I was thinking about picking up Saints Row 2 since I have some RZ certs that need to be spent but I may pick it up and hold onto it to return it for this. I was initially all for FC2 but some of the recent buzz said it sucked. I'll have to check out the reviews to see if they can pique my interest.

There have been a few people on FarCry2.com who got it early via GameStop managers. Lucky s
Someone should start a CAG FarCry2 gamertag as we do for other games.
I think there's not much interest because some of the previews made it sound like the game was extremely flawed. Combine that with some big titles coming out (Fallout 3, Fable II, LBP, Lich King, etc.) and I think this game is getting overlooked.
For me, I'm psyched for it. The more videos I watch the more I want to play it. I love the open world aspect of it and having to think about how to go about playing the mission. I saw that 1Up gave it a B+ and there are other reviews that are giving it higher (85+) marks as well; I just hope this one doesn't get lost in the shuffle of games.
What this game kicks fallout 3's a$$ and Fable 2's. Come on people just look at the damn fire effects!!!! YOu can pull bullets out of yourself. And the map editor, Holy Crap!!!!
A friend of mine from xbox LIVE has had the game for 2-3 days now(Gamestop manager).
I'll quote him, "It's awesome, better than COD4". Keep in mind he an older guy who has been playing Far Cry since Instincts released on the original Xbox in 2005 which he's more of a MP fan aswell. While we were talking in private chat he was playing and an ammo crate blew up near him and scared the sh!t out of him making him jump in his seat.
I think this game will start to catch on more once everyone tries the SP and the map editor, which most of attributes are also in MP as someone stated.

I am SSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO looking forward to this game, tomorrow can't come soon enough.
Hopefully the 6 extra mission in the SE are good. It was a free upgrade for preordering at EB so it wont affect me if they arent. I just havent played a good shooter in what seems like forever. COD 4 got old fast and Battlefield Bad Company wasnt quiet up to standards with BF 2 MC
Sounds like the orange box based on one game instead of three Closing Comments Ubisoft Montreal has done some great things with Far Cry 2, the product of putting a gigantic development staff and what must have been a gargantuan budget behind developing a new kind of first-person shooter on a new engine. The formula still needs work in terms of enemy AI, quest structure, and giving the player more to do to fill in all that open space, but as it is, it's still a standout achievement. More importantly, it has nowhere near as many bugs as something like S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, a title that bears many similarities. Add to the roughly 25 hour single-player campaign a remarkably easy-to- use map creation tool and a full multiplayer suite, and you've got one of the most complete overall gaming packages of the year, as well as one of the most ambitious.
i just went to a gamestop outside atlanta, still no farcry 2 shipments in... the girl working there was equally frustrated, looked up some things and ultimately decided that it will DEFINITELY be in stock tomorrow morning. i havent seen it in any retailers actually, hell i saw littlebigplanet at blockbuster, but no farcry 2 anywheres.... lousy release dates.
hell i saw littlebigplanet at blockbuster...
Dude, I bet you could have bought LBP, Ebayed it, and got enough money to get FC 2 for free since LBP has been delayed.
Well i got it at about 12:30 and have played about 2 hrs worth and so far im really disapointed, mission structure isnt great and its wayyyy to hard in my opinion. It may just be me but i feel like i wasted 60 bucks here, i dont know if ill ever go back to this game.
mission structre isnt great and its wayyyy to hard in my opinion.
I saw this in a review; it essentially said that you have to learn to play this game in a different way. Those that try to run-and-gun will die ... a LOT. It essentially said that the game is trying to teach you to take cover and plan out the attack. As for mission structure, this game is a true sandbox title and what I've been wanting for quite some time: give you an objective and let you go about how to complete it, that IS the mission structure.
This is a fantastic game. I got it today and if you could use one word for it, it is IMMERSION. You really feel like you are in this place. It works for creating a real, living world more than even GTA4 does. Controls and graphics are top notch as well.
Planes and or helicopters definitly would have made this game a winner. Its still great but having something in the air for multiplayer would have been great.
The map editor is hard, easy and fun all at the same time. It is truely amazing though. There are some things that annoy me such as not being able to cut foliage with my machete. But this is a truely solid game
Immersion is definitely an accurate statement. From looking at the map while driving, to the day/night cycle.. it's amazing.
At the first safe house, there's a cabin nearby that has a lantern lit at night. When I went and hit it, it exploded and caught a crate on fire, then the fire spread to the cabin (and burned it), and when the fire reached a nearby ammo crate, the ammo started shooting off. It's insane. Insanely awesome.
Say whatever the you want, but so far this game is pissing me off.
I am trying to do my own thing and EVERYBODY and when I say everybody, I ing mean EVERYBODY, is trying to kill me. I thought I did something wrong, so I loaded a previous save. That didn't work, everyone was still trying to kill me. I mean what the . I was playing on normal until I just couldn't take it anymore. There are a shit ton of guys and they can kill you really quickly. I mean what the this is only an hour into the game!
So I changed the game to easy, and nope it is still ing difficult. Every five ing minutes I gotta get out and repair my car because the mother er on the turret of a truck shot it up.
At the beginning of the game the difficulty seemed fine until I went to take on a mission for the UFFL.
Oh and spoiler for the beginning of the game I guess, but
was I supposed to die when I am trying to get out of the city. I basically died instantly. Then my guy woke up with some UFFL correspondent.
The game IS very difficult if you're trying to play it run-and-gun style. You will get your ass handed to you. You need to slowly approach things and take people out one on one. Sneak along paths, scout out locations, sneak up on people and kill them with your knife.. PLAN YOUR ASSAULT. Do NOT run and gun. As far as guys on turrets on guns, it's fairly simple to just pop out of the car and kill the guy on the turret.
A spoiler for later in the game, once you get buddies.
I died, and my buddy immediately came to my aid. My eyesight was fading in and out and I lost consciousness. I opened my eyes again and my buddy is carrying me, pauses to kill a guy, and continues on, I lose consciousness again. I regain consciousness and I'm back up on my feet and he's there helping me fight off people. The immersion in this game is awesome. Just.. awesome.

Yeah, I was trying that until all hell breaks loose everytime, with enemies coming from every which way. Also doesn't that contradict the "you can play the game any way you want" thing. I thought you were allowed to approach any situation in any way you wanted. It sounds like you are implying that I am playing the game wrong.
Oh and when I use a turret on a truck it basically shoots feathers for all I can tell. I UNLOADED on this other guy on a turret and he didn't die until he jumped off the turret, which was when I shot him in the head with my turret. That doesn't make sense if I shoot him in the head while he is on the turret and nothing happens—he should die there too!
This other time I was on my way to take this mission when I spotted an airfield. I thought OH YEAH, I am going to go get a plane! Nope. Once I drove in there I got attacked by enemies. There wasn't a plane either—well except for that plane that was crashed into the ground.
Yeah that buddy thing happened to me too. Since I apparently suck, that happened. I probably would of appreciated it more if I wasn't pissed off from fighting these enemies.
Yeah, I just picked the game up on Steam today, and I am getting a lot of STALKER vibes from it, so you have got to be ing careful about how you approach your engagements. I'm glad they finally released a game like this on the consoles though, as it is really the first of its kind on a console really. Closest thing to Stalker or even Crysis that non-pc folks will get for a while, so thats good for everyone.

I have beat both STALKER and Clear Sky on the Stalker difficulty. I had no problems with the difficulty of either of those games.

It's not that you're playing the game wrong, you're just playing a less than ideal style. This can be said for any game. You can play Tony Hawk by just riding around, but you get a lot more out of it if you do the tricks and combos. The whole "play as you want" refers to the storyline and situations. The game didn't lie, you can just run and gun. It's just that the game isn't built for that. I actually run and gunned on my last mission. If you want to play R&G, you better damn well make sure you know how to get the crosshairs over someone's head and fast, because the guys in this game don't drop down after three or four shots.

Are you holding down the trigger or doing it in burst shots? If you're holding it down, there's your problem. Even if the crosshairs are over him, the game behaves realistically, so the gun will recoil and spray everywhere.

I actually quite like the challenge. So often in games, you feel like you're this superhuman where you can just run balls out and blow everyone away. In this one, it actually feels realistic.
Oh, and digging bullets out of yourself is awesome.

Yeah I was non stop shooting but the gun was level so it seemed like the bullets should of went in the area of the iron sight. When I think recoil I think of the gun moving up the screen as if it is hard for the character to control.
Yes that first time when I pulled a bullet out of my arm with my teeth was awesome.
I am going to play it some more tomorrow. Hopefully I can get a better hold of the game or something. I'll let you know how it goes.

Watch the crosshairs. The further apart, the worse the recoil. The closer, the more accurate. This is why I prefer burst fire over automatic. Single shots work as well. Haha, I've done a few awesome Jack Bauer style shots.. I'll run into a sprint, hit crouch (which slides if you're running), whip out my pistol and pop off a headshot. I prefer the pistol over any other gun in the game so far.

I wish there was some way to show me smacking my face with my hand. I had NO IDEA that the game played like that. I have had the cross hair turned off the whole time! It is awesome with no cross hair, but I didn't know my accuracy degraded like that. Would of been nice if the game said so.
Alright that makes a lot more sense now. Oh and those Jack Bauer shots sound awesome I am going to have to try that.
Yeah and talking about pistols, they sound really good. I had the sound turned up a little high, so when I shot the pistol it was this LOUD crack. It startled me at first. Then when I tried shooting the G3 it sounded a lot more tame. I just thought it was interesting about how real they made the pistol in this game. I mean when you fire the pistol it has some nice blow back (as in the gun's recoil) like a real pistol does.
Razzuel, let us know how the game plays once you've enabled the cross hairs and changed up your play style a bit. I'd really like to see if you're enjoying it any more than at first; I say this because I'm seeing (mostly from PC players) a LOT of people getting pissed off at the game for the same reasons you said. Again, we're use to being these super heroes in games and this one takes that element out and puts a lot more realism in. Can't wait to finally get a chance to play this, it's just sitting there tempting me until I can find some time.

I don't mean for this to be rude or anything, but you don't play many FPS do you? Outside of Halo, I can't think offhand of any FPS that doesn't used the widen/narrowing crosshairs for accuracy.
Would you guys reccomend this game? I liked Far Cry 1 (on PC), but I just don't know if it'd be worth the $60.
For anyone who is interested in playing the 6 extra missions but do not have the GameStop preorder version it looks as though it is not a unique code as my brother & I picked up a copy and the code is the same for each package:
qaF9t6uC
1. Go to the main menu.
2. Access Additional Content & then Promotional Code.
3. Enter the above key code.

They made it sound really, really good. Since I get totally immersed in the game, it kinda freaked me out a bit the first time I shot the pistol. It was quiet, the guy was just standing there, I fired off the shot.. it echoed, and the only sound you could hear was his body slumping down onto the floor. I felt kinda bad afterwards.

I guess I wasn't exactly explicit enough in my explanation. I do play plenty of first person shooters actually.
When I started Far Cry 2, the cross hair was automatically off. When I was adjusting the mouse sensitivity, I noticed it was off. I kept it off because the game looked cool without a cross hair in the first place. Since I have never seen the cross hair in this game I never thought that it would be one of the expanding cross hairs to show that your accuracy was decreasing, albeit I shoot in short bursts every so often, so it doesn't matter too much. It was just that when I get on a turret my mind gets set to just hold down the trigger of the turret and aim at the enemies.
Hopefully that makes more sense. Yeah and I am going to start playing some more now, I hope I don't have as much trouble as before.
Ok so I played for a bit over an hour. Maybe I am crazy, but the game isn't has brutal right now. Maybe that is because I am doing side missions, I don't know. What I do know though is that yes indeed, everyone is trying to kill you. It gets kind of ridiculous being attacked constantly. Then I have to get out of my dune buggy and repair it. It is kind of tedious. Hopefully when I can buy that buggy health upgrade it will be better.
Oh and I bought a sniper rifle, which helps immensely. Those damn ass holes don't really stand a chance now. Well the game didn't piss me off today, only slightly annoyed me because of the constant threats.
Yeah and this game has the best hidden packages in any game. Not only do they have a purpose within the game, but the developers set it up, so that finding them is not as obtuse and stupid as the pigeons in GTA IV for example. You have a tracker that will beep green when you are close to a diamond—which are the hidden packages. The closer you are the faster it beeps. When you are pointed in the direction of the diamond, the light constantly stays green, that way you know where it is. Then there is a sound that helps lead you to it as well. You use these diamonds as money. What is really great too, is that once you find a diamond it is marked on your map, exactly where you found it.
