Feminist now UNHAPPY about FAT PRINCESS

I fail to see how a fat princess furthers stereotypes. The feminist in me would be more pissed off it this were just another absurdly thin Disney princess.

Woah.

There are parts of this thread that I really agree with.

And parts that make me really disgusted.

That latter part is mostly Serpentor.
And to top it off, she hated the PS2. (And she has a mustache.) I guess I'm just tired of the victim mentality we've generated with all this "you're special" nonsense. Let's face it, some people are not special. Some people wear helmets so they don't damage the soft-spot on their head. Some people rant about missing extra cheese fries on their order at Lardburger. And some people can't take a joke.....

Fat or not, she should at least lighten up and roll with it. (I mean, I've heard that fat folks are mobile that way....)
 I opted for the comment I made instead of pointing out her hairy lip or other obvious flaws. I'm also a fat gamer and I find humor in anything that displays stereotypes. Am I wrong in this? Not really, since it shows I have a sense of humor and can laugh at myself and others. I just wish EVERYONE had the same ability, since some will find ANY reason to piss and moan.

The price increase makes no difference to me though, since I don't think I'll ever download games, I like having a physical, hard copy of them.

If anything I'd think a feminist would be more upset that it's another game where a woman requires some men to come save her, but anyway, I guess most people just have an anti-feminist kneejerk reaction to this sort of thing.

At least in this instance she has a huge fat ass so it's obvious why she can't save herself...
But gamers don't want to really think about this, and instead merely lapse into these unconscious reactions where all feminists are evil and bitches and so on - rather than realizing the person making the claims about this game can be a complete, utter, depraved, bag of fucking hammers idiot, and feminism can still be just fine.
Of course I don't want to think about this. It isn't worth more than a passing comment.

I don't think people have a anti-feminist kneejerk reaction because they complain about games. I believe most people are anti-feminists reactions because they destroy the nation and follow from the Communist book of "destroy the family and the nation crumbles" I believe someone said it best like this.

Genital mutilation of girls in the Middle East and Africa? No big deal.
Honor killing of daughters for refusing to marry the man chosen for them? No big deal.
Honor killing girls and women who have been really raped? No big deal.
"Men at work" signs? Somehing must be done!
Fat girl character in an electronic game? Something must be done!

ONLY IN AMERICA!
EDIT: Kanik and HotShot (as always) are on point at least.
Thanks for noticing Myke, always interested in having a civilized debate with you.

Well alright then, Rush. I'll have to remember how much I hate families when I start my family.

EDIT: In any case the discussions of feminism should probably stay on topic, so I'll quit talking about it now.

So then they think they have a right to ride motorized wheelchairs around everywhere, because it's too hard for them to walk. I give a thumbs up to this game

HOW DARE YOU! HOW DARE YOU CRITICIZE THEIR LIFESTYLE! THAT'S JUST PATENTLY UNFAIR!

But seriously you're right. If you're fat, make it work or lose weight.
I'm not interested in satisfying the writer's intention by clicking on the link to her blog/rant, but I am quite curious how heteronormativity fits into this equation.
Because all Fat Princesses are gay. Duh.

Or perhaps there is a better explanation.

EDIT: She named her blog "Shakespeare's Sister?" Well, I'll keep that in mind the next time I'm accused of being arrogant. Wow. Next thing you know, John Tesh's latest jazz album will be called "It's Pretty Much Just Like fucking Coltrane, OK?"

It's a Virginia Woolf reference. Not that that makes it less self-aggrandizing.
It's a Virginia Woolf reference. Not that that makes it less self-aggrandizing.
In this case, I thought she was referencing the 90s band. Which consisted iirc, of lesbians. Doesn't really matter either way.

Folks, have fun with this, but remember this is the general gaming forum, not the VS forum.
Why being fat makes skinny people froth at the mouth so much? You people sound more butthurt over this than she does, really.
For me I just have no respect for people who don't take care of themselves. I feel bad for the minority with legit medical problems who just can't lose much weight regardless of exercise and a healthy diet. But most fat people are just lazy and eat like shit.

I wouldn't say I froth at the mouth, I just have no respect for such people. I only froth at the mouth when it directly effects me. Like getting stuck next to a fat ass on a plane who only bought one seat when they don't even come close to fitting into one seat etc.

Because leg room is sacred. Personally I buy 3 so I can put my feet up.

Anyway, like so many others stated before, it's just a game, and unlike the main character, doesn't need y'all to come and defend it. Not that whining, name-calling, and completely unrelated calls to credibility counts towards doing anything of value, much less rescue efforts. >.>

It's gonna be hilarious if this game turns out bad or broken in some way (not that I wish this on games as a writer/developer/enthusiast), and everybody goes... "Well, shit."

?

It's not even leg room, just room in general. Nothing worse than getting stuck by someone who is squishing over and under the arm rest into your seat.

Actually I can agree with you there, nothin like ridin the bus in rush hour. Though between less room and inebriated hobo who took his shoes off, ... screw it, I'll stand.

It's not that being fat makes skinny people upset, while most of us disapprove of the lifestyle, honestly most of us don't care and adopt the "do what you want with your life" mindset.

It's the recently growing trend of fat people demanding "equal treatment" in regards to health insurance, company benefits, seating size, and so forth in forwarding a so-called "fat agenda" in which instead of them adapting to the world (as it always has been in a Darwinistic society of "be strong or die off"), they instead demand delegation and law changes that forces the world to cater to them, which is utter bullshit, but likely to come to pass as the world's population grows fatter and fatter.

Imagine entering a movie theater or airline now forced to construct designated "fat zones" with oversized seating. Despite the obvious differences in size or weight, which merit an additional cost, laws might be passed where the owner has to take on the additional cost of face fines from the law on grounds of discrimination. Or the company owner who is forced to cover higher health care costs on what is clearly an self-imposed unhealthy lifestyle.

All financial reasoning aside, the biggest peeve of the fat lifestyle is the growing number of fat parents that utterly fail in teaching regulation to their children when it comes to food. It's particularly disturbing when, as a 23-year-old with an athletic build that I come across 10 year olds that outweigh me. As absurd as it sounds this is flat out child abuse, but is so common in American society that it gets a pass.

Don't get me wrong, if you want to be fat, be fat and be happy, it's none of my business. But don't waddle your ass around and bellow to society that your "entitled" to extra health benefits and a motorized wheelchair for what you've clearly done to yourself. If you want to live life like this, do it after you turn 18, take full responsibility for whatever health dangers you inflict upon yourself, and if you fail to keep your child healthy prior to 18 (i.e. turn them into a fat child), expect to have them taken away, because they at least deserve to understand what it is to be healthy and fit before you fail to develop a sense of self-care into them.

actually, when i first read this, I assumed it meant something about body types...but apparently she threw the word out there just to be a bitch.
 Shut up, fat women. Seriously they are all just mad because no one touches them.
Some people touch them.

I like this guy. He puts into words things in my mind that I am just too damn lazy to type out. Go grab yourself a beer my friend, you deserve it.

What a lot of people overlook is that not everyone is fat because they are slobs or because they have a thyroid problem or whatever. Some people eat when they are depressed (I mean clinically depressed) just as some people stop eating. It upsets me when people make fun of someone for being fat/skinny just because they assume that person is a slob or doesn't take care of themselves or skinny because they are just "emo" and can't handle life. People in these situations need help, not destructive criticism. A lot of people probably do go through the depression and realize that their weight and their body are in bad condition from a lack of attention paid to it and adjust it, but a hostile environment isn't usually very helpful.

On the other hand, I do agree that dumbasses like the one in the link need to STFU, she's not really helping anything with her ranting. She may be overweight for a good reason, or maybe not, but that doesn't mean she's free from lighthearted fun that the rest of society gets. The game, as much as I've seen, which is probably more than she has seen, is not a vicious or cruel message against overweight people, it is just a fun game. Hell, it's not like the skinny, pasty, nerd, the dumb jock, the bone-headed cheerleader, or anything else gets a pass in anything.

Pretty much... I'm just sick of fat people thinking that they deserve special treatment because of their choices.

Shakespeare's sister is incensed over a 10 dollar PSN game.

Yeah, I'm sure Shakespeare regularly wrote whiny 10 page reviews of the latest punch-and-judy shows.

a classic. Let us all take a shot for fat people, without them, there wouldn't be half as many funny video's on the internet.

Right. We've made the point about the game and the blogger, and just about everything else is non-game related. Time to close up shop.
