Link to one? I'd like to see how it looks.

I found a couple of Youtube videos. I can't say it looks much upgraded but that was what I expected. It does seem exceedingly lazy that they just dumped the old midis in the with this release. Seriously midi? It's 2012.

Anyway, here's the links

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8jd1u0RmO0

the second link he says he went and found some fan made remastered audio files and swapped out the crappy midi ones for those but if I'm going to go through all that trouble I'll just use my old disc version if I'm just going to have to end up modding it anyway.

Thanks. Yeah, it looks like a pretty bare-bones port, which I think we were expecting. I'll grab it if it goes on Steam and goes on sale.
what are the achievements?
Successfully pay for and register key (30% accomplish).
Successfully download and install client and game (15% accomplish).
Successfully launch game without game-breaking failure (6% accomplish).
Successfully complete second playthrough one year after purchase, without being blocked by DRM (0% accomplish).

hmm i loaned out my blacklabel original to a friend a few years ago, i need to get it back! lol

Yeah i seen it on psn and thought about it , but really not sure if I would really play through it again. Wonder if this online pc version is giftable? Been wanting to get my young step sister into FFVII since she likes FFXIII, gotta show her how much fun this one was, but with school in session, probably won't play too much of it right now.
So its been available for awhile on PSN for the same $9.99 price. My question is, does it look halfway decent on a PS3 with a HDTV or should I go for this PC version instead?
PS3 version has no resolution fixing so if you have a halfway decent tv it looks terrible. This at least has some up-scaling so it's not terrible plus your monitor is probably not as big as your tv (though for many they're the same screen...) I wouldn't expect much from this barebones port. But if you had to pick between them I'd say this version is the better one (assuming you don't mind the silly DRM)

Been playing it for past 5 hours, its an ok port. I don't regret purchasing it. The cloud sync for saves is annoying. Every time I start up the game it takes 15- 30 seconds or so for me to be able to hit continue since its syncing. The achievements are
beat first part of game, beat second part of game, beat FFVII. one for each of character's first limit breaks, one for each characters last limit break, get 99,999,999 gil, reach maximum level of any materia, get materia Knights of the Round, start a battle in battle square, get a gold chocobo, master all materias. Get Yufie, get vincent, beat diamond weapon, beat ruby weapon, beat final weapon, beat emerald weapon, get bahumut zero and win first battle.

No achievement for
save Aeris?
:p

It's be funny of they put that in there just to drive everyone nuts. I remember the old days when there still wasn't a ton of info and resources on the internet and people would swear that you could do that if you stood on your head during a new moon and did a dance backwards on a Tuesday.

So all of those yoga and dance classes for nothing?!

May have been answered already, but too lazy to look through - does it have native support for the 360 controller (or controller in general) without xpadder / pinnacle. I would like to sit back and play this one.

I have been using the 360 controller and you can map it by going to the options of the launcher. Default is A action, b cancle and x is the menu. I switch them around and mapped the bumpers on the launcher to the page up/down actions.
The only thing that sucks is that I can't use both the analog and dpad, it makes me chose one so I have been using the analog stick. Using the dpad would probably be easier for going through the battle menu.

It works right away though. It just doesn't tell you how it is mapped in game and you just have to kind of figure it out ot exit out and go to the launcher.

Yup you can use it

Thanks for the above answers concerning the controller compatibility! Still contemplating the PC version or the PSOne Classic for Vita version on the 28th. Surprisingly, I've never played the game yet, in any form.
Any news on a steam version? Have some money in my wallet :p
Right now, SE has said that it won't be on Steam. They're really using this to drive people to their download service... which I think is going to backfire, because everyone's complaining about it.

I personally believe that it will be on Steam one day, but not any time soon.

Turned out marginally better than my prediction. I thought it was going to end up being an Origin exclusive!

That reminds me, wasn't Square in bed with EA at one point years ago?

Anyway, this whole thing really, really disappoints me. Square Eidos has been doing really well on Steam and I enjoy their games there. I was hoping for more of the Japanese side of things there, not that they would start trying to force everyone to come to them ala EA.

And if they are going to pull a stunt like that then a barely improved re-released of an old game complete with midi really isn't going to cut it.

Yes I'm also deeply disappointed this isn't on Steam where things like Cloud Sync and achievements actually make sense... I'd be more than happy to pay $10 for this on Steam - hell I'd probably even go as high as $20.

I believe it was a simple publishing deal.

Also, as far as mods go, isn't it just a matter of time until the modders just update and support the new game, maybe even strip out the drm?

EA published the early FF games on the PS1, among other Squaresoft classics, up until about...2000ish iirc.

Think it was actually listed as "Square Electronic Arts" in-game. I think future copies of games from that era had this removed, however.

I'm not big on PC gaming, so DRM is way over my head. But I'm out of town for work for two weeks, and looking for something to play. I was thinking about giving this a throw, since I never really managed to get through it. I'm not on my main computer though. If I buy it now, will I have any issues downloading it later on my primary PC? Someone before mentioned that cloud saving was pointless because the DRM won't let you download to more than one machine...not sure if that's true or not, so just looking for some help.

Man I really wanted this, but no Steam and bad DRM is no sale for me. I will look into patching the old version since I still have it somewhere in a box.

I just bought, downloaded, & installed the US version of the game today. Every time I hit "Play" at the main menu screen (before it goes into the actual game), my screen just flashes and doesn't go into the game. Does anyone else have a similar problem or a way to fix this?

Well I've been primarily a PC gamer for quite a number of years and I wouldn't touch this with a ten foot pole.

Obviously there are people who disagree and this is just one guy's opinion here. Still, any time I have to wonder if I might be locked out of a game I own at some point because I might be playing at a different location or on new PC I upgrade to that's just an instant deal breaker for me.

Can't wait to kick some Emerald weapon ass for the millionth time! The textures and resolution look so much better and smoother compared to the Psone straight port. Loving it so far.
