Nah, it looks more like late first/ early second generation PS1.

The other screens of the character close up look better, but this doesn't look that great. The moon and many other objects in the background look flat, which takes away from the sense of depth the rest of the graphical design tries to impart.

It's still rather early to be that harsh, but would you spend 3-4 hundred dollars to play that game?

You can see the video on GameSpot. Looks impressive for a portable device I suppose, the video is so grainy and skewed its hard to tell. From what I could see, it looks better than "N64-ish".

PSP will run the havock physics engine!
Further evidence regarding the power of PSP comes in the shape of Havok's announcement that their impressive physics engine (used in Max Payne 2, Deus Ex: Invisible War and, most notably, the forthcoming Half-Life 2) is being ported and optimised for Sony's handheld. Of course, it's not being suggested that you should in any way expect Half-Life 2 on PSP but the very fact that such a powerful physics engine is being adapted to run on a handheld suggests that PSP is indeed a potent beast.
I wonder how long it will be until people start making ridiculous comments now that that information has made it out?

It looks like the very first PS2 games. Which I always thought just looked slightly better than the last games that came out for the PS1.

looking at the coloring of the pictures, id say the games would look much clearer on the actual system and not a screen cap.

On a side note, this really makes me wonder what nintendo has up thier sleeves..

Um...

The game takes the form of your average 3D platform adventure, with players taking control of a little grim reaper as he fulfils his usual quota of exploration and combat-based objectives. Speaking of the machine's power, Charla addressed, "Polygon for polygon, PSP has more power than PS2." This is clearly evident from the footage, which appeared comfortably on a par with the latter machine's first-generation offerings. Visual effects were in abundance, with dancing flame effects showering the screen, tracers accentuating the hero's weapon motion, and some impressive lighting further enhancing the game's eerie mood.

The PSP is more powerful than the PS2? Or is that just a typo?

I think you can considered the PSP as PS2.5 in terms of power. I was also surprised when they announced this about a month or so ago.

Well, a hand held console is more powerful than the original console.
Is like saying the GBA is more powerful than the gamecube. I don't have a good analogy.

That is a typo. She meant to say, "Polygon for polygon, PSP will consume more power than PS2."

Time to start stocking up on rechargable batteries.

Looks pretty good, if it really is stronger than the PS2 that could make for some interesting developments. They said some soft ware effects are avilible in hardward now so I assume that means no more spending energy on anti-aliasing which means processing power can go to the games themselves.

...as for batteries I believe it's using a buit in rechargeable, I doubt they'd ask you to play somthing like this with double AAs.

i just pray the price isn't as high as analysts are suggesting. i read articles on cnn money stating that the PSP could be $250 or more even. and, great or not, i'll be damned if i pay that much for a portable console. not saying it won't be good, i just can't sit around playing a handheld enough to justify that kind of cost

I agree. To make something that powerful in a handheld is going to cost a ton. Exp. since they want to make this thing the Walkman of the 21st century.

Honestly, I cant see it costing less that $250. Unless they start taking stuff out of it. Were talking about the miniturization of a system that still 175 bucks, with it's own new technology screen (OLED) and special propriatary media disks.

...and all that's assuming they leave in the close range network gaming, digital music and possible video player.

Better start saving.

You're probably gonna say something smart elic about me making a personal attack, or were before I predicted it. But anyway, all you do is bitch, bitch, bitch, and bitch. Just wanted to say that.

Calm down XboxMaster. Seriously, the way Sony has been touting it's capabilities, this doesn't (seem) to live up to expectations just yet...

Downlaod the video, it does look pretty impressive, the moon really is spherical.
djr-moon.jpg

(although I think they could used a few more polys for it) and the frame rate and animation are solid 60 form the looks of it.

Kinda reminds me of a cross between Ininja and Medieval.

umm it looks pretty good. as for the back ground looking flat thats how i see the moon. its probably a photografic back ground

there is no way in hell im paying $250+ for a handheld version of a console that i own and dont use very often. i dont even care what games the PSP has, if the DS is $150 (which is what i've been reading) ill definately get that over the PSP.

oleds aren't new they ve been around for awhile in cell phones and a few digital cameras. In cell phones they are only showing text on the back of the phone. Oleds use way less power than a lcd and light up on there own without a backlight. They also have an image comparable to crts because it has dark blacks and bright colors. The screens are also flexiblle. You can literally bend them

I agree with you there's no way i'm going to spen more then a 100 buck for a handheld Video Game system I don't care who make it Nintendo , Sony or Microsoft and that's fure sure. For $250 that thing better give Blowjobs and Swallow.

thats good to know, atleast thats ones thing that might lower the cost... but of course it's still going to be pretty high.

LMFAO!

ds will probably be aroudn 149.99 and probably fail.
psp will probably be 199.99. i wouldnt pay more then 200 for the system.

and the deathJr games looks awesome.

wow i dont c any jagged edges either, the anti aliasing must b good. that pic looks pretty impressive.

you are actually going to buy the Nintendo DS???
I seriously see no reason for Nintendo to release the DS while the GBA SP is going strong nor can I see anything special they can do with Dual Screens (other than an exact replica of Dual Screen PUNCHOUT) that will merit me buying their new portable against the PSP. They are only fracturing their client base. As for 250$ for a PSP.....well as it is supposed to do a myriad of other things in addition to games (PDA functions, MP3s/Music, Pictures, and I heard possibly movies), whose to say it isn't worth it??
