First "real" job interview, advice wanted

Well, I'm at the airport, through security and at my gate. Only 2 and a half hours until my plan leaves. Everything went better than expected.

Well then I'm assuming you didn't listen to Gargus.

Don't listen to gargus about anything.

You shouldn't have as much trouble with a live interview as with a phone interview. I've always found phones to be much more difficult. Just relax and give them what they want. GL brah.
Phone interviews are shit and should be declared illegal.
Same goes for yearly Performance Development Interviews.

If it doesnt work out take a shiz in the parking lot. They will think there must be some big cats round here.

In all seriousness all you have to do is be confident, but not cocky. Be friendly and smile.

Never answer anything with I dont know. Say ill find out for you and get back to you.

If it doesnt work out I hope you enjoyed the peanuts.
I just finished my masters degree in May, and I've been searching for a job since. I've probably applied to a couple hundred jobs, and have had maybe 10 phone interviews. Today, I got the first call asking to speak with me again. So, I'm flying up to CT next week.

This job seems perfect and since I heard about it a couple weeks ago, it's been the one that I've really wanted. It has many similarities with the research I conducted for my thesis. So, I'm pretty nervous about it.

Since this is my first real, face-to-face, on-site interview, I was wondering if anyone had some advice. This is also the first time I'll be on a plane in about 4 years, and the first time I've flown alone.

One of the things that worries me most is that I have a medical condition that gets aggravated by me being worried and stressed (and worrying about said condition makes it a self-fulfilling prophecy or something).

Thanks.
I used to live in CT what is the name of the company you applied to?

Ugh. I was too quick to say everything when better than expected. Flying out and back turned out to be hell.

When going out, I had a flight to Philly which had a connection to White Plains, NY. The plane was originally supposed to leave at like 11:30-ish. There were apparently storms up and down the east coast over the last couple days. So, my plane got delayed and I was going to miss my connection. The travel agent that booked everything called me and told me that I would get there the earliest if I switched my connection to a later flight which I did. Then the plane got delayed more and I was going to miss that connection too. Travel agent called, I switched over to a flight going to DC instead of Philly and of course changed my connection as well.

DC plane got delayed, would miss connection. Travel agent switched me back to a plane going to Philly. Finally I get on this plane and make it to Philly only to find out my connection to White Planes has been cancelled. Travel agent switched me to a plane going to Hartford instead (the distance between Hartford and where I was actually going was about the same as White Planes, NY). Finally, Hartford plane got cancelled as well after being delayed about 3 hours.

At this point, I was pretty much fucked because the next plane going out would arrive about an hour after the interview started (and I would still have to drive an hour after I landed). So, while most people probably would reschedule, I called the travel agency emergency number (because normal hours were over), and I got a car reservation moved to Philly and drove 3 hours.

I got in the hotel finally at around 12:30 am Friday when I should have been there by 3 pm. It was a journey that took nearly 17 hours, and if I would have just driven, it would have taken around 9.

Flying back similar bad things happened. I arrived at the White Planes airport, and when I tried to get my boarding passes, there was a screw up in the system that said my ticket had been cancelled. Luckily that got worked out eventually. The plane was originally set to take off 7:30pm. We got boarded around 10:40. At about 11:30, they kicked us off the plane saying that they couldn't get the left engine's avionics to start so they had to do some maintenance. Finally around 12:30, we got back on the plane and took of.

It went to DC and I had a connection to Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh flight had similar delay problems, it was originally set to take off at like 11. I arrived at the DC airport around 1:30, and as soon as the plane landed I check my connection online, and it said it hadn't taken off yet. I rushed to the counter, only to find that I had just missed it.

So, I went to the customer service desk, the next flight out was at 9am. I had to spend the night in the airport. Even worse, there was no place open to get food and apparently no vending machines in the airport. This morning, the plane to Pittsburgh was the first flight that had no problem with it, and actually arrived a few minutes early.

On the way out, it was US airways, and on the way back out I was flying on United.

The interview had similar difficulties with scheduling. There were a bunch of unplanned meetings going on, I guess. So, the original schedule was changed before I got there, and once I was actually going around talking to people, it turned out the person that was next on the list was busy so there was a lot of improv going on.

This made some things difficult because I didn't really get to talk with some people as long as I supposed to so things were sometimes rushed. I think this reflected poorly on me because I didn't really have time to give them the big picture.

Because I met with so many people, I think the overall reaction was mixed. Most of the people seemed pretty positive and liked me. One of them even made the comment that they thought I would certainly be getting the job although he also admitted that his opinion on the matter didn't factor much into the final decision.

US Scareways is god awful and probably the worst of the big airlines. United is not far behind on the shit scale.

Sounds like the interview went well. Let us know how it goes.
