Flip Successes and Flip Flops

Can someone please tell me why Ultimate Duck Hunting is rare?

My old teacher made the game and even he thought it was a steaming turd.

really?! wow.. its more like sought after than rare, at the moment at least.. theres no doubt that the game is a certified shovelware. the company that distributes the game (detn8) had dropped it. i dont think its going to get picked up by anyone since the scores have been terribly low. so maybe after the reviews were out, the publisher decides to pull the plug off before they loose more money. im not so sure how many were sold, but im pretty sure its very little.

It's common sense man. Low supply = higher price. Collectors want this game for their collection. It's hard to find so they are paying top dollar for a copy. It's not like this game is going to pop up at your local GS out of thin air.

there are tons of games with low supply but many of them arent worth anything

But you're hunting ducks. How obvious can it get? >_>

That was a joke btw.

Honestly, the only thing I see that makes this game rare is the little amount of copies that there are. I never even heard of this game nor have I seen it before someone brought it up in this thread.

why does it matter?
Starting poking around in some of the less-frequented nether regions of CAG, and finally found the thread I've been looking for. Just went back through the all of the pages, and wish I could have been participating/contributing to this thread awhile ago. I'm gonna throw out a little tip, something I've been grabbing this week. It's what I would consider a meat and potatoes flip; not a huge profit margin, but easy money never the less, and from a store I go to all of the time (Target):

If your store has the PS3 B2G1 going on this week, there are a couple of ways to maximize that. If your store still has the Tom Clancy EndWar Bundles (w/ BT Headset), they are in the system at $59.99 right now, same price as the regular game.

Well, I've been grabbing those, breaking out the official BT headsets, and selling them separately on the 'bay. They fetch $40-50 easily, and seem to sell pretty steadily. If you can find a store with 3 copies, pick them all up for around $130, with tax.

Even factoring in your eBay/PP fees, you should be able to get about enough from the headsets to cover your initial investment, then you're left with 3x EndWar. As of this week, the game still garners a $33 TIV at Blockbuster video, so it's like a free $99 credit. You'd probably end up with a little less selling them on eBay, if you just wanted cash.

A less desirable (but still decent) substitution for EndWar would be the SOCOM bundle; it is also priced at $59.99, and has the same headset, although this game does not garner as nice a TIV at the stores. You can sell on eBay for $20-30, though.

Also, if you only have 1 or 2 bundled games at your Target, throw in one of the new release titles like Skate 2, or Afro Samurai. Those are fetching anywhere from $45-$60 Brand New on eBay.

Not the most monumental flips, but a nice little bonus money maker if you're always making trips to Target (or at least passing by a Target) like me. I head in there to check on clearance stuff a few times a week, and there is also a GS in the same shopping center, so I might as well stop in and make $60-$90 every time I pass by.
if i may ask..how exactly do you list the bluetooth headsets in terms of what you put in description and what you put in auction title? just seems like a LOT of bluetooth headsets on ebay...difficult to sort thru clutter o_O

Thats funny, I saw a boatload of that duck hunting game at the local target for like 18.99 or something a few weeks ago and now there all gone.

No real huge secret here...I just make sure to include that they are the official sony ps3 bluetooth headset. These headsets packaged with EndWar are the 'new' Sony model; the same one that they sale at GS for $49.99 by itself. Of course, I let them know that it is brand new, just sans packaging.

Hey, just wanted to say thanks for the heads up. I went to one Target and they didn't have any though they did have the shelf tag for it (at $89.99). I asked the guy to check stock and he said they didn't have any but the next closest Target had 'em. I was able to get a nice trio there. Now I can keep one (or maybe two) headsets and sell everything else and break even (or hopefully come out a bit ahead).

Interesting that at the Target with all the stock they actually had a special tag on the shelf saying they were $59.99 - yet that one had tons and the $89.99-marked one was sold out.

I made a nice little run this evening; managed to pick up:

Wario Smooth x4
American Idol 2 x2
Marble Mania
Network Adaptor
57 (yes, fifty-seven) strategy guides (out of a dumpster, no less)

EndWar Bundle x3

Unfortunately, I'm basically at zero in GS credit!:wall: Kind of flipping out about it a little (no pun intended). I do have a pretty good pile of BBV games to trade in (actually gonna have to recruit some buddies to help with all of the EndWar's), and am sitting on about $130 credit there already. I am desperate need to transfer something back to GS now, though, and I don't have a clue how I'm gonna do that (want to keep close to 1:1, obviously).

Any of you have a suggestion?

I think I'm gonna head to the next town over tomorrow; they have 5 pretty ripe BBV's, where I guess I'll try to grab some of the higher TIV $9.99 games and utilize the trade 3 get $10 to get built back up at GS a little. Probably as close to 1:1 BBV>GS as I can get right now...damn I miss you B1G1!!!:bomb:

Yeah, I came across a fresh Target that had 6 headset bundles tonight...don't know why I didn't get the last 3; but they were all actually marked $59.99, but they obviously weren't moving any.

I have always wanted to start flipping, but unfortunately never really had the chance to do so. I figure it takes a decent sized bank account to really purchase enough games to make a really positive profit. However, I did purchase 2 of the Street Fighter IV TE Fightsticks (Xbox360) hoping to flip one. I am not sure to try and throw it on ebay now or wait until the release date figuring people that can't find them will pay more for it. I would be happy getting it off my hands for at least $200, but if it could get up to a point that would cover the cost of mine, then that would be awesome.

Probably one of the biggest misnomers about flipping. I started with $50.00.. ended up with a ps3, some games and a few hundred in credit.

Then I started co-mingling funds... but I've kept a decent spread sheet and so far I'm 0$ out of pocket :) Just gotta get in at a good time ^_^

My best:
Found copies of Monster Hunter Freedom marked down to $10 at BB, picked up two. Saw that sealed copies were going for $40+ on ebay, went back the next day and picked up 6 more.

My worst:
Visited my parents house several years after I had moved out and inquired where my SNES was. My mother had sold the console and all the cartridges for $25 in a garage sale. Had FFII, FFIII, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Super Mario RPG, Zelda, Lufia II, Breath of fire II, Actraiser, and probably a dozen more classic RPGS all still in their cardboard boxes with instruction manuals (in good shape).

Just a small one, but I grabbed Battalion Wars 2 from FYE to give me a third nex-gen game to trade in at GS for $10, and it traded in for $12 plus I got the extra credit. And my only other one is Gripshift, which is currently only at $22, but hey, money is money.

So Ultimate Duck Hunting was stocked at Target too?

pheared told me I might have some luck at Best buy as well.

I can't find anything else about where this game was stocked. EB/GS didn't get new copies.

edit: seems like Wii will be the most collectable system this gen. there are already a bunch of games that are rare/in-demand.

Not a game flip, but a good flip nonetheless. FYE has a pretty good dvd clearance going on. Thus far my flips have been $7.50 -> 15, $12.50 -> $30 (Haruhi Vol 1 LE) and just today $12.50 -> $50 (Ninja Scroll Series Ultimate Ed.)

If you have a sears around, 97 cents can get you a Flipper Critters, which nets $5+ credit @ FYE. There are quite a few other Sears flips out there, just check the sears thread.

My best flip was at TRU of all places back when the N64 had just come out. They were running a promotion where they were giving $10 in "Geoffrey Dollars" for every five 16-bit carts you brought in regardless of the title. All of the Funcoland stores in my area were loaded with old copies of Madden and Joe Montana games for the Genesis that sold for like .10.

I don't remember my final tally but I probably turned about $40 into around $450 in TRU credit.

EDIT: I also had a pretty good run flipping clearance copies of Lumines for the PSP back when the firmware exploit was discovered using it.

Waaa!!! I've got to get to FYE! I could use those DVDs for myself. Too bad I don't have any in my area, but I will be around several in a couple weeks.

To keep it on topic, I just found 10 copies of Wii Sports that I never got around to listing on eBay. That's like finding $300 between your sofa cushions or something. I'll be listing them tomorrow I think.

I still haven't put all my BBV games away that I'm keeping from the B1G1 (yeah, it takes me a long time to get motivated to clean), so they were among a couple piles of games, and behind several large stacks of guides from the last couple of weeks at GS and from recent trades. Basically I've got like 8 foot-high piles pf stuff, and they just got lost in the shuffle. I kind of forgot about them once I wasn't able to go to a friends' place to test them. The discs are all scratch free, though, so I'm thinking I might just throw them up there without testing them, but offering money back refunds (buyer pays return shipping).

Pics please? I really want to see the mess you have. XD

I started with Rainbow 6: Vegas 2 and Crackdown being traded at Blockbuster. Ended up with a PS3, Xbox 360(First one died out on me), couple of Blu Rays, couple of games and about $300 in cash. I've just started to flip again so I'm happy.
Pics please? I really want to see the mess you have. XD
Haha, the mess has been conquered. It was during some intensive tidying this morning that I started to put everything away and realized 10 of the game cases there were Wii Sports that I had gotten from gamestop.com literally 3 hours before they put the household limit up. Mostly it was thos guides from GS, plus the entire month's worth of guides I received in trade, and maybe 30ish games. It was pretty much all of my January hauls just built up on a single table. The Wii Sports were closer to the wall, so were somewhat obscured from my view.

Best Buy is your best bet for Ultimate Duck Hunting. I remember seeing them in mass quantity when the game first came out. I got my copy for $9.99 from Best Buy over the summer. This particular BB was clearing out a bunch of titles in a $9.99 YMMV clearance back then.

This thread is one of my favorites. It is interesting reading on the successes of fellow CAGs and it brings items to my attention that I otherwise would not look out for to flip.

the 2nd american idol encore is retail value since its still available everywhere. the 1st american idol encore is the one thats worth money. if thats what you have, you better sell it before the season's over.

warioware smooth moves was a good game.. its just that its warioware, not alot of people take wario games seriously. but that seems to be changing after warioware touch went oop.

good for you!!! i highly recommend keeping it for awhile or better yet, find another copy. but, if you need the money now, then go right ahead..

Here's another one for you guys

http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=27188

if you can find it, it can make roughly $20-$25 on eBay
my 2 cents: i really thought that MGS 2 Document is going to be rare one day when it first came out. i didnt buy it when it came out because its not even a game.. but im pretty sure they didn't print a whole lot of them. i bought 2 of them from gamecrazy when they had their buy 2 get 1 free games $4.99 or less :) i sold 1 copy last june for $60. i had a sealed copy i bought for $5 and i sold it within a set of other sealed MGS games for $500. i highly doubt it will get reprinted. maybe if they re-release MGS2 in a future console and they bundle it with that. selling it for $25 is not worth the trouble. save it for later :)

Years ago I bought a complete Spiderman Web of Fire for the 32X at a yard sale for 50 cents and sold it later that day on eBay for $110...

I still see this at various stores for it's MSRP of $19.99. People are paying $35 for this now?

Wait wait wait. $35 for a USED copy? My gamestops are loaded with this game.

they were going for that much around christmas time. prices has dropped since then. I have new ones that I can't sell for $40 shipped.

Well, crap, I got one then too and just added it to my GS trade-in pile. I had NO idea it was worth anything since they've been cheap everywhere and I thought it didn't sell very well. Blockbuster had tons of them in the summer B1G1 sale ($5 after the discount). But I even found one just in the December sale. It had gone up a slight bit in TIV at GS, so I should have taken that as a clue to look it up on eBay. Oh well...

In any case, it's nice to see that the game I spent $39.99 on at release is at least somewhat back up to that value again ;).

Check this out. Definitely a flip 'flop'. Is the market tanking for this? Well, that's cool, I've only got a few more to get rid of and my area is pretty dry.

LOL i need to construct an amazon.com wishlist of all the rare games...im thinkin thats what a lot of people who get these rare games and resell them do
