FORZA Motorsport 2 - Gen Discussion - March Pack Due 3/19 - 400pts - 13 New Cars!

I would like to say that I'm addicted as fuck. Man the game just has a great overall experience; does anyone else enjoy some of the menu music (I'm turning 26, maybe I hit their target music selection or something?) ? Even though it's frustrating at times driving against the Pro AI, I still can't put the controller down when playing this game!! SHIT!!

I played for a few minutes on my lunch break. My only real complaint was there seemed to be some hiccuping when adding new parts to the cars, but I think that was in Forza 1 too.

actually bought a nice car yesterday of Futurama. Loving it. My friend is picking up the game soon and he is a major in art. So he said once he gets it he will start making me some LE cars! yah! Has the forza site been down all day for anybody else? Or is it just me?

Well, i'm closing in on leve 15, i have a little over 100k in the bank, and like 10 or so cars. I have most of the assists on since i'm still getting used to the game but overall its fun. I'm waiting to unlock the 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi, once i have that, i'll head to the paint shop :)

im just hitting level 30 winning 77k a race cause i let the computer drive for me on the endurance race. its like 30 laps. but if i let the computer drive it on medium with no assits it comes out to 77k per hour. PLUS i have been selling a Futurama Car. If anybody is interested in it its a Fairlady Z. I'll give Cag members a half price discount of 50k for it. Let me know!

I've got some spare cash to get a car.

you just have to narrow it down by the type if car. Make, model, HP, Weight, class , etc.

Please tell me what fucking sense it makes to have a quick match option that connects you to full or nonexistent sessions every time? I've been sitting here for a fucking half hour looking at a search screen when I could be playing the Halo Beta. fuck this game.

I have never been so frustrated with a game online... at the moment, I'm kind of pissed I dropped $60 on this.

You can't race............. You don't have no legs Lieutenant Dan.

It never occured to you that you can make your own room?

I suppose, but I'm more of a "room-joiner" type. It still doesn't fix the issue of the broken quick match option...
So I am starting to worry I am going to hit a wall soon. I can't win some of my series because of my complete lack of rwd ability. I really have no concept of what I do wrong but I put rwd cars in the wall like they belong there.
Are you driving with any assists on? Honestly, when I use RWD, I don't feel ashamed of driving with ABS/TCM.

Yea I play with the assists on but I still can't use rwd. I am getting to the point where I am gonna start letting the computer run these races.

How much real world driving exp. do you have ? [not meant as an insult]

Around 7 years of driving. My main issue with the rwd vehicles is old habits with fwd and awd vehicles in racers that simply will not work with rwd. Everything I do to prevent a fwd or awd vehicle from spinning will make a rwd car spin( I tend to feather the gas to get out of skids). It doesn't help that I tend to avoid the higher end vehicles in almost all the racers I play online as I feel the high end cars leave no room for error. I prefer a balanced lower end setting where one bad turn could hurt you but it's not like taking one turn wrong when everyone is in an enzo.
That doesn't help me get thru career tho, and I really want to beat the Heavy Weight Proving ground race and force myself to learn rwd with that shelby.

With RWD, don't be afraid to slide a little. When you start sliding, try to point the car in the direction you want to be when you stop sliding (a little at a time). Once your sliding is about to stop, slowly start accelerating until you are in a straight line then let her rip.

Don't slam on the brakes or accelerate too quickly in or out of turns.

Take turns wide.

Use the brake line until you learn the tracks and get a better sense of speed.

Can you play now ? I want to see where you're having trouble .

And that right there is my entire problem. I guess after playing racing games for like 18+ years the same way (btw I hated sim racers with a pasion until pgr2 broke part of that wall down). I have a hard time not jumping on the gas out of turns, and because I use fwd cars most of the time I tend to take turns really tight and use the brakes to swing the rear of the car into the turn since at higher speeds understeer makes wide turns extremely difficult.

Edit: Richlough I can't jump on right now I gotta get ready for bed in a few. Basically my deal is the rwd cars my friend who is very good at racers suggested I try are still too much for me to get used to. (Tho for some reason I always do good with cars that he thinks are total ass and I think cars he tends to like are not good) If you are familar with PGR 2 we used to play Pac Muscle races for a few hours a night every night, my car of choice in that class was the Lancer Evo and my buddy(who was rated in the top 500 players for most of this time) couldn't understand how I competed with it, he used the rx7 which was one of my bottom 3 choices for the class.

There are a few RWD Lambos I can use in the PGR series but they seemed to handle alot like the lancer that I had way more time then I'd like to think about driving.

I was having trouble with RWD also for similar reasons (and still am to some extent) but a combination of things helped me. First break early so you can do it in a straight line, take the turn slowly, then as soon as you get pointed in the right direction you can start accelerating. Obviously the advice you got from others above is good also.

The other thing is upgrade the car. Don't be afraid to drop 20k credits on upgrades; you will win it back. Brakes, horsepower, and tires are all a big deal. Also, getting a spoiler on the back will cause more downward force and give you more grip. Also try dropping the tire pressure a couple of psi in the rear and/or raise by a couple in the front. Try to balance out the upgrades so it's not all power or not all handling.

These things have helped a lot for me. I still have a long way to go but I'm having tons of fun.

Are you seriously supposed to drift around turns like that? I rented the game and in my time with it, had the most success with... well, not sliding intentionally anyway. Or where you just doing that for the picture...

I usually end up taking the turn like that in a RWD. An AWD or FWD you wouldn't.

I have a 600 HP silvia thats totaly maxed out and that thing gives me fits but its still fun. I only use abs and sometimes traction control other than that I use manual and hard etc...

This seems to be the best game with the best physics or at least the most natural and at least for me it's real easy to drift. I didn't have to practice or anything and I've never been a drifter till now. GT3 was the closest thing to drifting prior to FM2.

If you don't call it drifting then it maybe power sliding or fish tailing then.
if u want just tell me when to put it up on the auction house.
What class is it in and what are the stats? Could you post a pic of it?
perhaps I'll have to watch the replays posted of the fastest lap times and see if the people are drifting or not...
I can't imagine top speeds being done by drifting. Maybe thats just cause I can't drift in this game though.
I have a really silly question....how do I access the auctions on my 360?
Multiplayer>Car Auctions.

Damn Cheapy! Out of everybody im surprised you asked this question. Has the Forza Offical site been down for anybody else? Trying to get in to check out some auctions instead of checking every single retailers.

Response Edit To Cheapys: Thats why you use the offical Forza site. Its much more straight forward. If you want a Futurama Z car for 50k let me know. i'll gift it to ya for 50k. Do the same for anybody else if interested.

I played a few more hours today.

I really do love the game. It's a ton of fun. The driving is even better (is that even possible) than Forza 1. I can really feel the difference between the car types now.

My only complaints:

1) Why on Earth doesn't photomode have a frame backwards? (Or does it?) It seems to go backwards you have to rewind about 30 seconds.

2) As Cheapy said, wow... the auction system is a disaster. The 2 minute thing was good in theory, not such a great idea in application. I'd like to be able to and see a sentence or two on what the car is supposed to be written by the artist. Sometimes I can't tell from the small pic.

3) I spend too much money upgrading. It's partially my fault. I got up to about $35k today and was like "well I can only win these races with this one crappy car I have, better upgrade the shit out of it." So my D161 is now an A836 or something ridiculous. It drives like a car that was duct taped together (I can barely keep it on the road, and I CAN drive in Forza). There's just too much temptation to upgrade a car and be able to destroy everyone else around you.
Thanks!

Man, this auction system is pretty poor. It sure ain't no eBay!
ya it si kind of confusing how they put it into the multiplayer menu.

should have it's own menu option, or be in the career menu.

Concerning the ability to change your region:

I'm guessing the discounts on car purchases wil carry over to the new region you pick right? So I can switch back and forth without any problems, save for the 100,000 Credit it costs?

Does the credit amount for switching back and forth change each time (increase) to discourage constant changing or is it 100k everytime?

Ouch.

After I spun out:

I was talking with a friend who has this game, and he said the frame rate was 'perfect' after 20+ hours of play, he has never seen the framerate falter once.

Now, I am having a different experience. About once or twice (on a two lap race) the framerate while in a turn, will slip for 60 to about 30 fps. It's quick, but I notice it. This is in the single player mode, not online.

Does anyone else see this, or do I have a bad game/360?

I've never had any frame rate problems. Except for if I am in the middle of a race and I go to picture mode, then return to the race. The game seems to have problems keeping up for a few seconds.

Anytime there's tire smoke it goes a bit into "slowmo" looking and then returns to normal. Oddly though, if there's engine smoke out the back there's no slow down. After talking a gamer friend that used to test games he said smoke effects will bring a system to it's knees.

Other than that I get random freezes. I think it's caused by overheating but I don't get that since I have a small room fan blowing into the bottom of the 360 while on it's side. The most "consistant" (sorta) way to make it freeze is if I scroll though my cars too fast or too slow it will sometimes freeze up. I once thought that my low disk space was the cause of it having problems but even after freeing up space it didn't make a difference.

With all this said it's not THAT often and it's not THAT big of an irritation but I don't get it what's going on. Oh yeah... and no my disk is brand new with no scratches because it hasn't been out of the 360's tray since I bought the game.

Anyway, Thanks M$...

I can't believe that the current next-gen systems have a hard time rendering smoke. Take Call of Duty 2, a 18-month old game; smoke was everywhere in that game, and it didn't seem to effect gameplay.

I don't watch the replays in Forza 2 much, but I doubt there's that much smoke in the game. There should be an option to turn in off, to protect framerate, then.

I also have a small fan to cool my 360 area down.
