Freddie Mercury: Will we ever see another frontman of his caliber?
the charismatic figure that Freddie Mercury was.
Which is kind of amazing when you consider the fact that he was a pasty little troll.
No one mentioned Mika?

He has the voice.

NO joke man its crazy that you posted this! I just discovered this today on accident while on my iPhone. I happened to see this video and thought holy shit he sounds like Freddie a little bit. Than in the middle of the chorus he says that he tried a little Freddie and does the signiture point. Crazy.

Freddie Mercury was an incredible singer...no doubt about that. My personal favorite singer is Ian Gillian, paticularly on the Deep Purple "Made in Japan" album. He kills on that record.

But Freddie is a great singer. I will not say otherwise

Note: The Killers/My Chemical Romance need to stop trying to be Queen, because they just can't. Nobody can; especially those two.
Who's next on your list, Scott Stapp? :puke:
If you think Bono and Scott Stapp are even in remotely the same league, you have no right to be insulting anyones musical taste, or opinion.

Rivers Cuomo is fucking awesome! You have to realize there is a big difference in someone just singing and someone that sings and plays lead guitar. I really love Freddy Mercury and I don't think anyone will ever compare. However, Rivers is confined to what he can do on stage by his guitar. And go listen to some early Weezer or some live Weezer and there are some awesome guitar solos, courtesy of Mr. Cuomo.

Do talentless people win 22 Grammys? Do talentless bands get inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?

Do assholes get nominated for the Nobel peace prize? 3 times? How many times have you been nominated for one? What, no times? None at all?

I know it's fun to hate everything popular, but you have to give the man credit, even if you hate his music, he has plenty of talent, and genuinely tries to help out when he can. Scott Stapp is just a punk who wants to be treated like Bono without earning it.

Sunny Day Real Estate hunh! He's not bad, although while a good front man I'm not sure he has the personality.

If you appreciate SDR you owe it to yourself to listen to Jonah

His one band was called Gratitude. Who knows what he's doing now, but he is great.

Also if you haven't seen MUSE live you dont know what you're missing. It is to this day the best live shows I have ever been too. The energy that band puts out makes you go crazy at the shows.

I don't hate everything popular, just U2. Bono has an awful voice and he only tries to "help out" because he likes the attention.

Grammy's are not always an indication of talent.

Just throwing that out there.

I might not like Bono or U2, but I can respect the shit he's done.

Wrong.

And besides, if you were going to die because your car skid off the road and I was the only one who found you and decided to save your life for the attention, would you kill yourself to prove your point? If not, then shut up.

Wah wah wah. "He helps people for the attention". In case you didn't know, there are people in this world who won't even do that much. Even if a good deed has a selfish intent behind it, the good deed itself isn't invalidated. Have you ever helped out someone in return for something? If you have, then you have no room to speak.

And this is from someone who barely listens to any U2 at all.
I will. I don't much care for his voice. He was charismatic, though.
Not trying to add to the picking on you but are you saying you didn't like his voice? If so why? Or are you saying he didn't have a good voice, in that case you would be tone deaf. Plus, no offense, if your listening to http://www.myspace.com/annunakiband that type of music, how much do you really appreciate the vocals of bands? No i am not trolling you either, I listen to a lot of metal just not a fan of the metal where it sounds like there throat is being slit while they're singing.

Freddie had a range that really isn't heard alot anymore from pasty white guys.

LOL

Pretty cool coincidence with Mika maynard.
I heard this guy more than a year ago, and thought he'd get big.
He's doing alright it seems.

If you want a frontman that can absolutely control the the crowd with emotion, passion, and power, that's Morrissey.

On a sidenote, The Smiths are going to be inducted into the Hall of Fame next year (first year of elegibility too).
Morrissey and Marr won't show.
I'm sure of it.

I'm not saying Freddie had a bad voice, I just don't really like it. I love Bob Dylan, Bright Eyes, The Cure, The White Stripes, etc, and I can understand why many people are annoyed/flat out hate their vocals. He had a great voice, it's just not very interesting to me.

EDIT: Oh and I only listen to that band because my sister is friends with the bassist.
Have you ever helped out someone in return for something?
No, I haven't. When I help people it's because I want to help them. And also I'm too nice to say no.

No. I'm pretty sure that to get a Grammy you have to have some modicum of talent, whether or not the music made by the individual is pleasing to everybodys palette or not is a different matter. If talent didn't matter in Grammys people like William Hung would have as much of a shot at album of the year as someone like Bob Dylan, which is just not the case.

They're the WORST award show.

The Oscars at least have some semblance of credibility.

And Bob Dylan hasn't done anything relavent in 30 years.
Bless his heart.

thats true. Remember, Milli Vanilli won a grammy.
thats true. Remember, Milli Vanilli won a grammy.
You don't even have to make an obvious joke about the Grammy's.

You can just say:

"Remember everyone that won a grammy last year."

That's how terrible it is.

That was, a what do they call that, an example? A comparison? A frame of reference?

I am going to offer my two cents. I think Mercury was good but I think Cat Stevens will always be better live, and the best live performer today is juanes. Mercury was great though so don't call me a Mercury hater.

Never will we see a frontman like Freddie Mercury that could feed off and give off so much energy to his audience. Being a metal fan, I have some notable mentions of metal frontmen who have some of that charisma Mercury had...

Bruce Dickinson, great arena or open air performer.
King Diamond, his theatrical and epic shows makes anyone hyped up.
Paul Baloff, just watch this...
