But when I do.. this is what I think my next set of orders are going to be.

99% positive that if I ordered a used game from EB..

I'd get a case with some holes in it, manual missing pages, and a disc with a few scratches the size of the grand canyon. So.. I don't risk it.

as I don't think it'll ever drop in price, or if it does I'll miss it, I couldn't resist picking up Golden Sun: The Lost Age for the GBA for $20 ;)

fyi

anyone looking for an extra item to get over the 10$ order the pc version of backyard baseball 2001 for 99 cents and donate it to a charity or something, im putting one in with every order i need it on, i work at a childrens museum and am going to give them all the copies

if you really want to be a cheap ass im sure you could get some kind of write off for it too

lol I need to stop.. I just bought Hunter: The Reckoning for $4.99

I am done with this until Thursday! And I DO go to EBgames.com through CAG.. to help the site out a little bit :)

So when do those new wave of Player's Choice games come out? I know F-Zero is going to be $20, same as Metroid Prime. I belive Mario Golf is going to be $30..and Wario World is going to be $20 as well?

I wouldn't mind picking up F-Zero and Mario Golf for $30 :D

Can I just do all the steps and get as much code as I want. Then later I'll use those code next month because my credit card will be acessable next month.

Looks like everyone is catching on to how to abuse the offer. I wonder how much $$ the bargin site will lose until they realize this abuse :D

how so king?

i buy something, sign up for an advertised bonus, cancel the service and keep the bonus

i havent dont the pre-order then cancel thing

It might constitute fraud, depending on what their Terms and Conditions say. If there's anything in there that limits the amount of memberships (ie 1 free trial per 6 months), they have every right to charge your card for the memberships, and all of your cancellation emails won't mean a thing. It all depends on what they do about it when/if they find out.

You really won't have a defense either. They'll have a record of you signing up for the same trial however many times in a day. It's all the same billing info that they get from EBGames, even if you change the email.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to preach, just warning people to be prepared for the potential consequences. Usually the people who brag the most about abusing the deal are the ones that whine the loudest when things don't go exactly as planned.

That being said, I've used the code 5 times. I just got my girlfriend and other friends to do the sign-up, all with different billing info so it's legit.

wow some great ideas here...

This deal is so tempting to horde all the games you wanted but never got.

LoL just don't waste too much money on a good thing :p

what do the terms say?

I'm thinking of doing this, but I've got to convince my older brother that not too much $$$ will be put on his credit card.

Nope, you are NOT in the clear. From section 6:

"A canceling member is prohibited from re-enrolling in the service for at least six (6) months. "

Additionally, when you first sign up, it does indicate only one code per household. They can nail you if they want.

The problem is if they do decide to go after you. Even if you somehow find a way where you are right, it's way too much hassle to do anything about it. Recourse is definately limited in cases like this.

The only reason I think about this is because of a similar company. I don't know how many people are familiar with the free DVD sites, but there used to be trials of places liek Lotto and Psychic sites, and it was easy online cancels, and you'd get a ton of points. Problem was, that people did them on each of the different sites, and then the company nailed them for doing 2 free trials within 6 months. Those poor saps got charged $40 bucks a pop, and I think there was 7 different "free trial" programs. Ouch. Those companies had the same "6 month clause" as this does.

What I find even MORE curious is when I checked out their affiliate program. it states "You'll receive $7.00 for every qualified trial registrant referred from your site!". That means that if they are giving out $10 gift cards, EB Games is eating $3.00 of this. Additionally, as far as referrals go, "Every qualified trial registrant" means UNIQUE person. That means EB Games isn't getting the $7 referral fee everytime you do it, because your SAME BILLING INFO is going to Reservation Rewards. What that means is that after the first code, EB Games is eating the whole $10 for every additional code. That also gives EB a right to go after you if they want.

I don't know the likelihood of these companies taking action. It's more likely they will just shut down the promotion. But before this I was thinking about getting a 2nd code, but I think I'll pass.

yeah, I just saw that as well. as I've used a few codes on games I've really wanted, so I don't mind paying the additional money back to EB for those. but, the possibility exists that fines could be levied on top of that, so this could become a rather costly decision. I hope this is not the case, but if so, I'll certainly take full responsibility for my actions.

then again, this was posted just over two days ago, so it's possible we won't hear anything back, and the promotion will simply be removed.

only time will tell, but I definitely won't be using any additional codes.

I'm not saying it's definately what's gonna happen. I just want everyone to know that at least it's a possibility, and now you can make an informed decision on whether the risk is worth it.

There's a good chance they'll just cancel the promotion. Unfortunately, when companies get burned, they are hesistant to offer additional promotions like that. Additionally, other recent promotions that are similar "Foxstore, the MTV $10 code" all they did was stop the promotion, and cancel some orders. Although some people are gonna get charged full price for gift cards. I dunno if EB has gift cards, but I hope no one tried to get them with this code.

But, with the related experience I posted earlier, that's what scares me. There are a LOT of similarities between the two cases. I'm going to try and verify, but I think the wording on the "6 months clause" is the exact same. I have no idea what EB might do about it if they find out. They cant put more on to your card, but they could blacklist you (I guess)).

Oh, and I think someone on FatWallet posted this a while ago. I'm surprised they didn't kill this before it even got to this site.

I'm surprised about that as well. I can only imagine how many ppl have taken advantage of this by now, and it's a safe bet EB knows about it. kind of hard to miss when who-knows-how-many orders come in, all with $10 off.
magilacudy seriously...lay off that damn coffee!! 1k in under 2 months?!.....damn
agreed...dam is that possible

They won't go after the consumers that used ita couple times.

The coupon code is independant from the account data therefore there is no link between the two.

They can't tell if the coupon code you were given was redeemed.

To test this I called EBGames and asked if they could track the origin of the coupon code, they said they couldn't and they could only say if it was active or not.

Anyway gamestop used to take any games back after 14 days... many people abused this and they changed their policy to unopend games with reciept within 7 days.

What will happen is that this deal will be discountinued soon.

Also:

The account specifics (every 6mo) are not present in the nitty gritty when you enter your email address, therefore it can only be applied to members who sign up through the RR site.

my 2cents.

if you (might) have to get into technicalities to defend yourself and deal with a headache just to get this deal, it's totally not worth it.

but, if everything works out for the best, good for you guys.

I was going to try this offer but wasn't sure about it since I don't have a credit card (I use my Paypal virtual mastercard # for any credit card online purchases) but since Paypal is tied to my bank account I didn't want to take a chance. Now I'm glad I didn't sign up for the offer a few times or at all since chances are nothing will happen, I would hate to have my Paypal account get messed up.

I dunno..
I think if it KNEW about our information and blah blah blah.. Wouldn't it make sense for it to NOT allow us to get the code when we made another purchase?

I mean.. it doesn't make any sense.
It's like..you buy something, and you are given this option to join a program and get a coupon off of your next purchase. So you join, and you get this reward..

But the next time you shop, and you use the coupon.. when the transaction is over you can sign up alll over again. So why would they offer it??

Before I made another purchase at EBgames.com, I made sure my membership was canceled and all.. so maybe.. it knew I wasn't a member and it wanted to give me the chance to "join again?".
So this is what I want to know: Has anyone purchased something, joined Rewards..got the code...DIDN'T cancel..made another purchase on EBGames.com? If so, was that program still there for you to join? If so..were you able to join again??

It just doesn't make sense that.. if you CANCEL your membership..that you are getting charged. I understand how shady it looks and everything but still.

Anyone else having a problem entering your codes and claiming your codes. I try to enter them, and I get a "youve used your maximum allotment for this promo" error. and when I try to claim a code I get a "You've already claimed this" error.

odd

i agree, if you cant (by the terms) sign up for it more than once in 6 months, y would they allow you to sign up again?

and in the cencelation confirmation it specifically states that you owe nothing
