If you use the code GIMAG on theeca.com (found in an article of the new Crackdown GI issue), you can receive a free, full 1 year membership (I think it's only for new accounts). You do need a credit card to sign up, but if you cancel before the 1 year is up, you won't be charged. This is a great deal for the free amazon discount. Be sure to use the coupon soon, because the article doesn't mention the expiration for the coupon.

Enjoy guys!
dallascowboys

P.S. Now all of CAG can have an ECA membership!

Also, after you enter your CC number and the coupon, the page after lets you check everything before you submit your order. That way you know that the coupon worked and you won't be charged.

LinkinPrime Edit:

Check your spam filters for the confirmation link, if you signed up for the newsletter you will get 2 emails, one for the newsletter and one for the membership. For some reason the newsletter one showed up in my inbox and the membership was in my junk mail folder, so keep an eye out.

You weren't kidding. Ok I found this on page 28. All credit goes to jacknicklson for the original faq (1-6).

ECA/Amazon FAQ

1. I can't get into the member's area/can't find out where to pay. Help!

After the initial registration email, you should receive a second email linking you to a payment page. You can request that this email be resent if need be. Make sure to check your junk/spam folders as well.

2. Will this work on consoles?

No. Games and most accessories only. Physical point cards are also eligible, but not digital point codes.

3. Do these work on Quick Picks/Deals of the Day/Trade-in Coupons?

Yes, Yes, and Yes!

4. How do I get my Quick Picks to show games?

http://betterelevation.com/2009/02/1...old-box-trick/
This should be a basis to get it to work for whatever you are interested in. It is not a science though so be persistent.

5. Does this work on Pre-orders?

Yes, it does. The price will also automatically take off 10% of whatever the final selling point is due to the Pre-Price Guarantee that Amazon offers.

6. I have heard that these offers have expired/been removed, is this true?

There have been a few instances where codes expired or they ran out but The ECA and Amazon have usually rectified the situation within a week or so. Also, the Terms of Service state that any membership benefits can change or be canceled without any notice so keep that in mind when signing up.

7. Double and Triple stacking

This is no longer possible. Don't bother trying. Originally when the ECA would run out of codes and switch to a new batch members were able to stack codes. A glitch in Amazon's system would keep older codes in your account, and it was possible to add codes from the newer batches to obtain more than 10% off. Amazon found out about this, hence the reason the codes are currently down/ being worked on.

8. Begging/Asking for codes

This is not allowed. If you beg/ask for a code you will be permabanned. No questions asked.

9. Selling codes

Definitely a big no no. If you do this, you will get reported to the ECA and your account will be shut down.

10. If I make a pre-order with a code a cancel it, will the code still work?

Yes. Codes should remain in your account but again they will no longer stack. It is one code per game. Amazon and the ECA are working on codes tied into our accounts but this option is not yet available.

11. If I already have a pre-order made, can I add a 10% off code to it?

You can not add a anything to an order once it is made except a gift card. You can try emailing Amazon customer support and ask them to add it. Generally they have no issue doing this for you but it's a crap shoot.

12. What if I already have a pre-order with the old codes applied? Should I be worried?

We don't know definitively, but chances are good that Amazon will not touch the pre orders we have already made.
I was going to sign up cause getting Tekken 6 bundle with 10% off (after the 50% off from Amazon) will already be half the membership. I haven't joined, but in hindsight, I should have, before ordering Persona, which appeared in my quick picks. Could have saved another $3.xx already!
Out of curiosity, how does this discount work on other discounts?

In other words, if I were to purchase a product for $100, used the 50% off promotion code, would the 10% discount be applied to the original price, or the discounted price?
Pretty sure the 10 and 50 percents get taken off from the base price, so it's 60%, not a total of 55%.

And wow, I spent like 30 minutes browsing a few more games, completely clearing my history and already rated/owned product of anything I didn't want to work for recommendations. I got a hair stylist thing and a heart monitor. I seriously envy you guys who pre-order like 10 games in a week with goldbox+eca discount, I only want to get 2 or 3 and I can't even get one to show up...or pretty much any game at all.

Its applied to the original price. I used in a SF4 TE stick and it took off $15 from the 149.99 price tag. I then used the 50% off coupon.

Wow, this makes me want to shop at Amazon even more!

Thanks guys!

Finally got a great Gold Box today. Don't know if this is actually the reason, but I disabled my browsing history after 2 weeks of no recommended items in my Gold Box and today I got GoW3, New SMB Wii, Muramasa, Scribblenauts, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII Versus, and a pack of college rule paper.

Dissidia Final Fantasy 35 somethingin box if that 5 buckcoupon could would work (what i cant get it to work) would knock it down to 30 then ECA another 3.50

26.50 for a 40 buck gam would be nice
Will pre-ordering an item prevent it from appearing in your Gold Box?
Does anyone know? Thanks.
man i can never get a response from these people and ive submitted a few emails already
Who are you talking about? ESA?

What is your question?
Does anyone know? Thanks.
I had Demon's Soul Deluxe Edition show up in my Gold Box even though I had pre-ordered it about a week before.

Thank you! I asked, because that's the same title I have pre-ordered and would like to see it appear in my Gold Box.

Yes. ESA.

Just standard membership questions and the usual question about the .edu addresses. It would be nice to atleast get a reply.

Hahha, I meant to say ECA :p

Did you just email them? I'd suggest calling...I can't count how many times I've gotten answers to questions much faster by talking to someone...

They were pretty quick at e-mailing back and forth late last night (from 11-12). I was having problems with the validation link, and I guess there was something wrong with their SSL certificate. The link works for me now, but neither of my credit cards will process :(

Furthermore, I had Infamous show up despite having already bought one through Amazon. Of course, I can't get any of the 10 titles I have sitting in my recommendations list to show up, noooooooooooooo. . .

E-mail Amazon customer service and give them the code. I did this to apply the coupon to my existing pre-order, and they e-mailed me back in about 10 minutes saying it was done, and that was immediately reflected online.

I think sometimes (fine, usually) Gold Box has nothing to do with your recommended list. If a game you purchased appeared in your gold box it was just pure luck and it probably appreared in the gold boxes of many other people. I don't know, maybe amazon gets paid to put some items there.

However, sometimes amazon puts into Gold Box items from your recommended list and if you want an item to appear there you have the best chances of that happening if you have that item in your recommended list.

So, the real question is not if an item appears in your gold box, but if it appears in your recommended list. All items you bought (preorders or not) are used for recommendations and DO NOT appear in your recommended list.

Anyone know how I can get a membership if I started to sign up, enough to make an account on their site, but never paid for the membership? Now I can log in to the site, but I can't continue the membership purchase. It isn't in my cart and there appears to be no way to add it to a cart. If I click on the "members area" link, it tells me to log in, even though I'm already logged in. I've email them, but like guyver2077, no response.

After you sign up, they will send you an email with a link to follow to purchase the membership.
It should arrive within 24 hours of signing up.
Until you get that email, you cannot purchase membership.

I did all that. It was in my cart, but I never went through with it (had second thoughts). Now I want to pay for a membership, but it is nowhere to be found in my cart and there doesn't appear to be any way to get it there. I can "login", but I can't actually get to the members areas and they tell me to login, except I'm already logged in. I'm about ready to give up.

EDIT: I tried using the link in the original email, but when I do that it says you can only do that once and, "access denied".

Try changing your email to something else then back to the original email you signed up with so you get another validation email and maybe it will pop up in the cart.
Must be recent, since it worked for me a few weeks ago when I pre-ordered it.
It must be amazon's way of telling me to buy the TE stick instead.

On a side note I hate when amazon ships your crap in those stupid cardboard envelopes. How the hell are they supposed to keep your game case from being crushed??

No wai. Two epic Gold Box days in a row...I'm stunned. Clearly, this must be wrong. No chance I'm getting anything tomorrow. But, whatever, I think I'm done for awhile. Picked up today:
-House of the Dead: 2&3
-We Love Katamari
-Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers
-Dissidia Final Fantasy (finally)
-Scribblenauts (finally)

Passed on:
-Kingdom Hearts DS (haven't even played the first two yet, so no point; I'll wait for drop)
-No More Heroes 2 (first one is in backlog...no point, and this'll drop like a rock)
-Legend of Starfy (ehh...I'll wait for a drop)

Only thing I want left (pre-order wise) is Demon's Souls. So, in an attempt to get the Limited Edition I "not interested" the regular edition, but I think that may be causing problems with the LE showing up. Going to have to dig through the 995 items I've "not interested" to look the regular edition and "re-interest" it. :| And Amazon doesn't allow you to sort through these or have more than 15 per page....sigh...

This brings my game total using ECA to 24 (12 preorders). I can't tell if I'm being a Cheapass enough or foolish. LOL. But 5% off+10% off+free ship+no tax+pre-order discount+sale+sometimes other coupon is just too many combos for me to pass up! I think I need to go to Amazon Anonymous.

Alright, I don't purchase enough (at least games) on Amazon to know what this "Gold Box" setup is...could someone explain (sorry, I'll wear the noob hat).

Is it like a wishlist? I have several games in a wishlist for those who may need an idea of what to get me for occasions.

I must be retarded since i cant complete the registration. I gotten the email confirmation from ECA, clicked on it to verify account. it added the membership due in my cart. The problem is that i cant check out. please help....

The Gold Box deals everyone is refering to, is the sub-section of Gold Box titled "Quick Picks" where you're able to get items for more a discount. The items in your wish list have no effect what so ever on the Gold Box deals..

I'm having this same retardation.

There is no check out button.

Absolutely killing me. I even got on my mom's account and went through the browsing/recommendations there to work on games. I got ea cardio whatever for the wii, and some other game I'm not interested in...and like 11 other items between the two accounts that have nothing to do with anything I've rated or "use for recommendations".

Sure I don't buy a lot of games from amazon but from most of the crap I always see in my gold box, it's not like I buy any of that stuff either. It's going to take me the whole year to recoup the 15$ from eca at this rate.

anyone having a problem logging in?

i've been a member a few days now and for some reason i can't log in. i tried to see if i could get a new password, but i'm not recognized in the data base.

About 2 days ago, I generated 2 codes to save for later, but when I went back to use one today it said they were already redeemed. But when I generated a new one, it worked. Has anyone else tried to use a code that they generated more than a day ago and not have it work?

I'm having the same problem.
The eca website is a joke.

The benefits section explicitly states software related items, but it seems the discount is also applying to a joystick I'm looking at... neat.

yup some codes I generated back when they restocked the first time all did not work a couple days ago.. so there goes for hording codes lol. I had to login and regen a code and that worked fine.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story is in my Gold Box today and i'd like to preorder it. I have credit coming, but at the moment, I do not have enough to pay for the game. Can I preorder, use the ECA code, and use a temporary payment method and then change the payment method to a full gift card balance when the credit is received?

They dont charge you until the item ships so you have plenty of time to change it. You can even apply partial credit and then the rest of the balance whenever you get it.

They still haven't responded to my email. :( I'm going to try the idea of changing my email address and then changing it back again. Thanks for the suggestion. Will report if it works or not.

EDIT: that was quick! Changing my email address and back again did nothing, but there is an option to "resend the validation email". That worked and put the membership back in my cart!! Great, but... like others there is no "Check Out" button!!!! Argh!!
