Don't know if this was posted before, but starting today the Gigawatt Blades DLC will be free on the PSN for download.

Don't know if this will be permanently free, but it hasn't been available since it's release in May as GameStop pre-order.

I hate when they do this crap. Why did I pre-order from GS than? If they are going to give "exclusive" DLC it should be, you know, exclusive. I kind of think there should not be, but it screws everyone who actually thought they had to get a new copy of the game in order to use it.

Oh please, this is the problem with DLC to begin with. I'm ok with adding new levels but I think getting upset that everyone is getting something for free when you paid retail price (the same as everyone else for the most part) is silly at this point. I don't think they said that it was a permanent exclusive anyway.

I guess you could say... Its a Trap

I do agree with you to a point (I did say that I thought exclusive DLC was not the best idea), but I think it is a stupid thing for a businesses to do. "Let's get the people who really want this to pay a premium for it, but then everyone who waits for it to be cheaper or used, we'll give it to them for free." The video game industry says that used games are terrible for them. Not giving this stuff away for free would be a decent way to try to attract more people to buying new. And also it would not piss off the people who bought the game early.

Yep, I walked right into that.
I also realize I sound like a whiny bitch. Ah well, it's late, I'm sick, and it certainly is not really a big deal.

Thanks, almost forgot completely about this. I actually just turned off my PS3 seconds before coming here, see this, and had to turn it back on to go and download it, haha. I know if i don't get it now, I probably would have forgotten, so thank you.

I am pissed as well, stuff like this just makes me want to slit wrists so bad. It's so unfair what they're doing, giving out DLC for free to people who didn't pay.

Well didn't it sell really well, and is basically a Greatest Hits except it hasn't been out long enough? So they had a price drop, they have some free DLC, it's a thank you to the fans.

I really think exclusive DLC really shouldn't be anything more than stuff you would unlock through your regular playthrough (i.e. the incentive for preorder is just to have immediate access to the item instead of having to beat the game first or something). I mean it just gets confusing when you see different retailers offering different in-game items and not knowing anything about them, how do you even tell which is the best deal? Not sure if that happened with inFamous, just a general rant about pre-orders bonuses.

I'm glad Sony finally released this for everyone though; recently picked up the game so look forward to trying this out.

People get so up in arms about this stuff. Its kind of silly.

I do have to wonder whether or not the free DLC constitutes a deal tho.

i have no problem with people posting this in the deals forum. even though there is a forum for free stuff, this is the most-frequented forum, and many people would not see it otherwise

I'm cool with an alternative costume, or a demo being in a pre-order (and also a pre-order this and recieve these old games), but what bothers me is when they remove game specific (levels, challenge rooms, skills....) and put them into a pre-order. But a Kratos sackboy is fine with me, but an entire Kratos level in LBP being put in pre-order would be ridiculous (Note: This did not actually happen, just an example).

A Prime example of bad pre-orders was FarCry 2. Pre-order it and get exclusive missions, which were the only non main quest related missions to not be repetitive (ok so there were a few others... maybe).

Totally man .. you show them all, those bastards ... maybe you should douse yourself in gasoline and then roll in a bunch of Gamestop exclusive DLC content cards before igniting yourself though ... you know, to make sure people get the point ... you know, when you kill yourself ... over a game ... ;)

I guess it's a thing that you're going to have day 1 access to it. People who bought UFC 2009 somewhere besides Gamestop had to wait 3 months to get the 2 free fighters DLC, and will have to wait until sometime next year to have access to 2 Gamestop exclusive secret areas for Assassin's Creed 2.

Or would you rather have something like they did with Quantum of Solice when if you preordered the game, you got the multiplayer DLC map pack for free, while it cost everyone else $5?

^This.
The benefit of free preorder or early print DLC is immediate access to said DLC. In fact, one the biggest benefits of preordering AT ALL is guaranteed, day 1 access to the game and ability to play the game earlier than those who wait for used copies or price drops. For some people, that alone is worth paying the premium or MSRP prices. Having day 1 access to DLC is plenty of incentive for a person to buy a game from Gamestop as opposed to other retailers with no incentives.

Oh for crying out loud, crap like that happens all the time... You're paying to get it earlier than the rest of the gamers, so it's not a total lost. Fair? Of course not.

Before i forget, thanks OP and can somebody tell me what the hell the Blade does? I still need to platinum this game...

It makes melee attacks more powerful, if I'm not mistaken.

I feel like it would be stupid to not get it, but on the other hand, I don't want something that makes you more powerful than necessary. Oh well, it probably doesn't do that much.

fucking cry me a river. haters.
why dont we cry every time something goes on sale because its just not fair to those that paid full price.

if you paid for something you must've felt it was worth it at that price.

I am downloading this as soon as I get home. Great game I already platinumed, but will play again just to see how this works.

As others have said above a few times. It makes good business sense to sell something to people who will pay and then give it away for free later to get more people to buy your product who otherwise might not. Early adaptors always pay a premium. You get it first, you pay more. Same thing with all kinds of electronics, cars, games, clothes.

Remember how much plasma tvs were?

Why are people even saying they paid for these? Weren't they FREE when you pre-ordered the game at GS? You got them before anyone else, be happy about that. It's funny that you're not bitching that the game is $20 cheaper now, but rather about some useless "exclusive" DLC that wouldn't be worth $5, being given away. cry moar

You're attaching a different argument.

The issue is that the DLC was "exclusive" to GS pre-orders...And now it's a free DLC for all customers.

The issue is not that they paid $5 for this after the game released, and now it's free...But really...I don't expect you to understand.

Back to the issue, I agree this is bullshit, but that's why I don't buy into the whole pre-order scam.

You're definitely right...It just isn't "right"

you paid for the game at gamestop because you had credit to spend there or specifically for the dlc. you paid for it. 6 months later theyve given the extra content away to try and spur sales. you crybabies are pissed because now youre not the lone special group to have the content. youre all pissed because content which would be what? $2-3? is being given away 6 months down the road.

come on, seriously.

do you guys get your feelings hurt when they lower the prices of dlc youve purchased like in the recent fall sale? or when ff13 was announced for the 360 as well? be happy with what youve got and stop worrying about everybody else.

One of these days we should really get an official ruling on this. Personally, I'd much rather free DLC stuff stay out of the deals forum, because as is it can be pretty hard to find a thread. Creating a new one for each piece of free DLC would only make it harder.

Perhaps the optimal solution would be to create a sticky "Free stuff on the PSN" thread in the free stuff forums, that anyone interested in said free stuff can subscribe to.

As for this particular DLC, I don't remember relying all that much on melee attacks at all...Sticky bombs, shockwaves, and normal lightning were used much, much more frequently.

Hmm.. The day after I finally put an order in on the RLS for inFamous, the DLC I missed out on comes out for free. Sounds good to me :3c
As for this particular DLC, I don't remember relying all that much on melee attacks at all...Sticky bombs, shockwaves, and normal lightning were used much, much more frequently.
That's because melee attacks are quite weak in the game (especially on hard) and the enemies can back pedal fast enough that it's pretty difficult to connect with several attacks in a row unless you corner them. Apparently fully upgraded blades can kill most normal grunts in one or two hits.

I bought my copy from GameStop during a B2G1 this past summer, and it came with an unused Gigawatt Blades code. So I didn't pre-order, pay MSRP, and got my blades early! Be mad at me!

It has been exclusive, since may when it originally came out. Thats like 6 months ago. And its not even like you paid extra for it, it was a FREE pre order item so now people are getting it FREE for owning the game.

I downloaded this yesterday but haven't tried the content out yet. Been playing InFamous since I got it last month. Great game! Have to play some more tonight. :)

As for pre-order DLC, I'm fine with them releasing it later on whether it be free or for a minor price. If it's free then early adopters can just consider it a timed exclusive and it's not like you paid for it. It was included free as a pre-order and an extra bonus for buying it at full price. Not everyone can afford to pre-order/buy every new game they want so this is nice. At least they weren't like Activision/Microsoft who charged for the Juggernaut character in MUA2. I had no problem paying $2 for him though since he's a beast!

I barely used these in the game. As others have said, melee is quite useless, especially as the difficult ramps up. As far as them releasing them for free, the game came out in May. I have no issue with them making them available a half a year later.
