For a limited time, get a Sony PS3 120 GB console or Blu-ray player with the purchase of a qualifying Sony BRAVIA HDTV from Amazon.com. Offer ends on December 13, 2009, or while supplies last.

Best Buy is running a similar promotion but you have to buy a Blu Ray and Game and that makes it $100 more w/o adding tax and shipping. I know this isn't really cheap but I thought it was a good deal since I was in the market for a new TV anyway.

Nice catch. It's an option for someone who doesn't have a local Best Buy.

The Best Buy promotion is definitely better, though (in-store pick-up, no shipping charges or risk of broken glass). They also have a few better models (W series), plus a free game (Uncharted 2, LBP: GOTY, Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time).

I bought a 46 inch bravia from amazon last year. If they still do their "white glove" delivery or whatever it was called then it should be safe. The item was well secured in the truck and the delivery men were professional and checked that the tv was ok before they left.

Exactly, those sets are in obscene sizes and overpriced. Why can't they or anyone for that matter sell a normal size 25" TV?

I think the ultimate goal is to not be able to see any part of your wall. :D
can't justify the price when Samsung LCDs & Plasmas look so good for so much less...
I understand your viewpoint, but as a Bravia owner, I also have an solid argument: I bought a 46" 1080p Bravia LCD almost 3 years ago, and it still looks as good--or better--than any other TV I've seen since.

From here on out, every major LCD purchase I make will be within the Bravia series.

This. They make up the cost in overpriced LCDs.

25"? Damn I got a 32" LCD as my biggest TV at home and I think that's small.

But gotta agree, these sets are definitely quite pricey.

Pssh, the TV I use now is around 13" to 15" and it's just fine (SD of course). Granted I only sit a couple feet from it but anything over 30" is just ridiculous. Why would anyone need or want something that big unless you're watching it from the end of your driveway?

Well in college I don't even have a TV and make do with all my movies/TV show/gaming needs on my 15" laptop. It works well enough but I'd love to have one of those 52 inch plasmas/LCDs one of these days and watch some Blu-Rays in 1080p; they look absolutely gorgeous.

Personally I'd rather have 3 or 4 sub-par 40" 1080P LCDs than a single "excellent" one. That's just me though.

clearly you haven't seen many tvs.

A bravia from 3 years ago didn't have the same competition. The current tv playing field is much more even than you think.

I sit 10ft from my 60in TV. It's awesome.

No joke, are you 12 years old? My previous setup was a HD Projector with a 120" screen and it barely was satisfactory to me. I just have to think you have no clue about anything in life that you think 25" is "normal" for this day and age.

This. As a Kuro owner, I can't even go back to play pc games on my 22 inch monitor anymore.

Kuro's are amazing displays. Im currently using a Super Fine Pitch XBR CRT HDTV (the 910) and its amazing, blacks so deep its basically a black hole.

Sorry if I'm just blind, but I really did search, and can't find a thread on the Best Buy bundle. My friend told me about it, and I was interested in seeing what others had to say. As for what I'm thinking, Sony's ARE overpriced, BUT I would really like a bigger nice TV, and need a PS3, so the bundle is convenient; however I have know idea what other tv prices and qualities are like.
Anyway, three questions: is there a BB thread I'm missing, and if not, is the BB bundle worth it, and if not, what TV would be recommended (or somewhere with reviews of TV's I suppose...)? I know this a lot to ask in one post but my 32" isn't cutting it, and I want to educate myself here. I guess I might have to just look for a TV/gadget review site, but so often they look at MSRP when talking value - and we all know we don't pay MSRP. Anyway, thanks in advance for any advice or links I missed. Wow long post.

Yeah my 40 inch samsung is already crapping out in a little over 2 years. :(

The honest truth is, in a lot of cases, you get what you pay for. I'm amazed that people think $1500 for a 40+ inch LCD is overpriced. When I was shopping for a 50" tv, I was lucky to walk away paying $2k for sony's SXRD.

Not to mention, quality of parts is TOTALLY different. I've had Sony tv's in my family and ALL of them still work, including 2 36" CRTs, one that's 20+ years old. My 50" SXRD (3 years old), while nowhere near as nice as any LCD out on the market today, still works with no problems. A friend got a Vizio tv for graduation, and the buttons on the front bezel are problematic and the tv is less than a year old.

Sony definitely doesn't make TV's for everyone, and many people will be just fine with any other brand, but to say that their TV's are overpriced is just ignorance. If you're not interested in the deal, why post negative comments in the thread? It's not like I go around posting in threads for games I think aren't worth it.

Then you obviously don't belong here. Time to turn in your internet man card! If you don't have anything to bitch about or porn/music to share, then go play sports or get a girlfriend. ;)

Comparing a Vizio to a Sony, I think the winner will be obvious, but I hear such good things about Panasonics and that they are much cheaper. I actually always felt that while Sonys products were better quality, they cost more than they should - not that they shouldn't cost more than lower quality products but more than higher quality products should. However, I'd just done a little bit of searching on Amazon and see that the price ranges aren't all they bad - in fact I brought up a search for 1080p LCD tv's between 40"-50" and sorted by price low-high. Sony's KDL-40V4150 Bravia V-Series is $850 with free shipping, the lowest priced tv in the range; the next lowest is a Pany LN40A530 for $900 with $50 shipping. Of course I don't know the quality of these two tvs but it seems to me the Sony wins this round. I'll have to look into this some more and see what's what.
