Does anyone think there is a risk to this if I can't activate it?
Bad credit for life.

More than half of these will end up not being used for connection to the FON network, unless they're proprietary devices. In that case, you'll see these end up on eBay.

Ahhh! My Browser crashed while checking out and now when I return they want to charge me, What should I do?

EDIT: Never mind it went through I got the order confirmation email.

sounds wierd. I think basically you can make money if you leave it on and other people pay to use it. kinda confusing. still ordered one though

I dont know how I feel sharing my internet access with strangers. They would probably see me house on the map and camp out in my yard downloading who knows what.

does anyone know how i can use this "fon"? is it the same as any other router? if im in my car with a laptop that has a wireless card......how is it dfferent if i hook up this router?

There are special conditions, like letting other people use your internet.

This Special Offer is valid until Saturday, March 31st, 2007 and limited to 10000 units and to people who register or are already registered as Foneros. This Offer is limited to one router per user and shipping address who are residents of the USA. You will not be eligible for this Offer if you have previously purchased a subsidised La Fonera at www.fon.com.
Once FON has confirmation that you have registered as a member of our Community, we will send you the La Fonera for free (shipping costs and sales tax are included). Once you have received your La Fonera, your will be required to install the La Fonera and maintain it activated within the FON Community. If for any reason you are not able to do so, we ask that you kindly pass the La Fonera onto a friend who wants to share WiFi as a Fonero.
FON will publish your location on the FON maps that highlight the FON Community’s Access Points. Your personal data will be handled in accordance with the FON Privacy and Data Protection Policy that you will accept or have accepted when registering with FON. The FON Privacy and Data Protection Policy complies with the Spanish Organic Act 15/1999 entitled the Personal Data Protection Law and the UK Protection Act 1998, their corresponding regulations and other relevant legislation.
On our website www.fon.com you can find all of the necessary information for installation and registration of your La Fonera.

no thank you.

What is this Fon Wifi thing??? I know its a router, but how does it work??? I have a wireless network already, but i cant pass up anything that is 'FREE'. Someone do tell:bouncy:

I got a feeling that... with this being free and them trying to promote free Wi-Fi, this FON router won't support any type of security at all. So you'll basically be running an open network, allowing anybody to use your internet as 'free Wi-Fi'.

No thanks.

I wouldn't do it. Fon expects you to open up your internet connection, which means any joe-six-packs will be able to drive by and download all kinds of illegal stuff using your IP, and RIAA and MPAA can hold you responsible. Not to mention that they will put your location on their map.

You have to share your wifi or else they will find a way to charge you for the router. Many ISPs do not allow "service resale" or whatever it's called. Basically you can't open it up for free so anyone can use it, or operate your own ISP. FON is basically going to get your contract cancelled if you use it with SBC/AT&T service as it is forbidden by them. Probably Comcast as well.

don't worry if they give you any problems.. (doubt they will since more than half the people getting these will not abide by their promise) just say your broke it.. and if worse comes to worse... just pour some pepsi in it while it's plugged in and send it back to them... hehe.
i however will be participating, i am not online often and i don't mind being a wifi hotspot.

When I first read the conditions of them publishing your location as a "wifi hotspot", I was a little concerned.

Then I realized that no one on earth has ever heard of this company or their service, so it doesn't really matter.

Either way, I am not touching this. You can easily get a cheap crappy router like this from a retail store for $0-10 after rebates.

btw as I forgot to say Thanks OP!

I am not worried about people doing things with my internet connection cause were I would have it is a small tech impaired community, I bet half the people don't even know what a router is.

hmm i signed up but i never clicked the verification link on my email, gave it a second thought after registering. if i do recieve it, i wouldn't see anything wrong about putting it up on ebay

very very true darthbudge , do anyone no how much these actualy would cost cuz i cant renember if i hav seen one of these before on the inter net for $30 or something like that or £15. so if u sold them on ebay i dont no if you will get alot for it.

Woot i got mine, i would post a pic but i dont have a digi cam anyways it came the same week through fedex .....i was expecting snail mail lol

Got mine, I'm just gonna plug it in, use it on one PC, PSP, and a laptop, and stop using it.
I can't get charged that way, I'm sharing it.
Thanx OP!!!
I hope this works on my DS!!

Can anyone confirm?
of course it works with DS its a router....as long as you have broadband youre fine

im the OP and i still havent gotten mine yet lol....how long did it take for you guys to get yours?

maybe its becuase you live closer? i live in PA

in the description it says:"Register as a Fonero, install La Fonera, and enjoy WiFi everywhere for free or make money from others accessing your Access Point"

how can you do this?

if this is true as i suspect it is if it flashes up on someones computer they have to pay i geuss they will run a mile so im not sure but im stil waiting. lol:p

oh and i do quote i ahve been researching fon routers (wifi) and i have found out those of you who are worried about sharing internet dont worry cuz it says ppl can only access yr connection if they are part of the fon community which basicly means only if they have a fon router which u have a name and password to use others connections, u have a private connection for yrself and a public one for ppl of the fon network u earn money by leting others use yr connection, this is what fon has said:

"La Fonera offers you two wireless network signals (SSIDs), a private and a public one. The private signal is encrypted and offers you complete privacy.
The public signal will be accessible to Foneros only. This signal is the one that turns your broadband connection into a FON Access Point.
Furthermore, all Foneros connecting to the public WiFi signal within the FON Community are registered users. They need to identify themselves by a username and password.
Running an Access Point with La Fonera is not only secure but also easy to control. You can choose the amount of bandwidth you want to share."

ALSO:

Aliens are people who don’t share their WiFi yet. We charge them just €/$ 3 for a Day Pass to access the FON Community.

Bills are in business and so want to make some money from their WiFi. Instead of free roaming, they get a 50% share of the money that Aliens pay to access the Community through their FON Access Point. They can also advertise their business on their personalized FON Access Point homepage.
hoped this helped some of u i will be back to reserching then.

I got mine today, but since I ordered it (a while ago?), I got a different wireless router. Looking for a friend to give it to. Seems nice though. Small
