[quote name='dtcarson']Got my Fonera today. The only wireless device I have, other than my work laptop which is at work, is my Wii. Has anyone successfully set it up using only the Wii? I can see the private network but it won't transfer any data.
Once I get it working I'll certainly share some invites if I have them.

Rozuki said this:
"Connect your wifi router directly to your cable/dsl modem, connect your wii via the my_place access point. When you connect it'll ask you for the serial key on the bottom of your router, input and wii-on!"

I've got the Fonera hooked into the 'uplink' port of my wired router, which is in turn connected to the cable modem. Does the uplink work for that, or do I need to use one of the other ports, or will this not work like this?[/quote]

I did a little search on the uplink port on a router because I've always wondered about that too. From what I read I think its for connecting a router to another router but I could be mistaken, however it did say this

"The Uplink feature is often implemented by a shared port, meaning one port with two different jacks (usually next to each other). Note that you should never plug something into both the normal and shared uplink port at the same time in such devices !"

Anywho, I'm not 100 percent certain how well it works when stacked with another router, I didn't have time to fiddle with it and all I did to get my Wii online was unplug my current wired router and plug in my Fonero directly to my cable modem. If your cable modem is a modem/router hybid you may have to fuss with some settings but mine is just a modem so after it refigured out the IP/MAC address it projected the private and public signals and my Wii found it when searching. It worked straight from that (after entering the serial key)

OK I plugged the thing into one of the other ports, not the uplink--now three lights are on instead of just two. I can see both MyPlace and FONAP from the wii, though I think I still need to set it up. I'm going to bring my laptop home tomorrow and use it to manage the settings.
My cable modem is a regular cable modem the cable co. gave me, I've got it hooked into a four pour Linksys router that work gave me.

I got my Router yesterday. Geez its small xD but i need to know if i can use it to be a wireless(like) adapter cord. Like i can use it to the access from my downstairs router. is there anyway i can do that?

So what you want to do is basically extend your existing router's signal with the Fonero router. The Fonero router can't do that without a physical crossover cable connecting from the uplink port on your current router to the fonero. However you may be able to purchase something that plugs into each port and transmits the data from the router to the fonero router.

You'd be better off just buying a supported wireless signal booster (made by the same company that makes your current router preferably) rather than taking a chance on the other way I described.

Oh. then i got no use for this router xD
But i cant invite anyone til i get my pc back tomorrow. My parents took away it cuz of bad grades =/

Mine works fine, but I can't register it to make the public signal work since I have nothing outside of the Wii that is wireless. I have a USB dongle coming, and once I get everything up and running and register this thing, I'll send out some invites.

I still have not gotten a invite here is my email I will also remove it when I got one:

Well I tried getting one for free I guess they dont deliver to Canada....me sad.....lol

I was able to get mine to work. I brought my laptop home and set up the public access signal, then went over and reconfigured the Wii for the private signal. Went to internet channel, got a 4000 kb/s test. The others I did weren't quite as fast, but hey, not bad at all for free.

sejad, I just sent you an invite.

You should be able to. (hint hint, [email protected])

Funny, this site ships almost all over the world (it seems)... but not Canada.

I managed to get one of these more than a week ago...how long does it usually take to get here?!?!....

They ship to Canada. I had mine shipped to Canada.

Alright! I just got my router yesterday. I ordered it probably 1.5-2 weeks ago.

My cousin wants me to hook him up with one too, is there a way to get him a router?

Rad, I just did that. I didn't actually thing this router would work properly on my school network because every time I tried connecting my Linksys, it would never register. But I just had the IT register this mac address, and off we go. It's working perfectly, and so small!

Thanks again OP!

SWEET! Even my Wii connects to it. Now this is an excellent deal. If anyone wants invites, I'll send some out. This is a great, tiny, exceptionally simple router that's doing exactly what it should. Burn in hell old Linksys. You're going in the trash!

Thanks Iowa. I got the invite, but I am a bit confused. The link in the email did not work and there was no mention of a free router... Do I just sign up anyway, and they'll know that I was invited?

I have nooooo idea. Maybe if you just sign up they'll offer you a free router? If not, I don't know what to tell you. It says on the site something about "Want to get your friend a free router? Just sign them up here." Which is what I did.

Ok, I just emailed customer service.

I got mine the other day. Do you HAVE to use it for their program, or is it just a regular wireless access point and you can use it for anything?

[quote name='becuzimbrown']sign up and go to buy a router....and check if its $0.00......im guessing thats how it works[/quote]

nope

They ask you to have your wifi connection on 24/7, you don't HAVE to though. If you have the wifi connected your internet will always be shared through the public signal (but anyone connecting must be a fonero member or purchase a day pass which you recieve money for). You can also limit bandwidth to the public signal if you don't want people hogging all of it.

I also believe Invites are limited to a certain amount. The number I believe is three Invites but don't quote me on that number =)

Ok, I've run into a few issues.

1st, in uTorrent, my port is not forwarding properly through the FON router. Is there any way to connect to it to open ports, I do I need to connect directly to the wall to use programs like uTorrent?

2nd, how can I limit bandwidth one way or the other like Rouzuki mentioned?

I think you need to register your public access point first. Follow the steps in the user manual (as i've yet to register mine)

So is there any way for my cousin to get a free router? I had him emailed from fon.com, but in the email it just said "You've been invited to join... click here (broken link)..." It didn't say anything about a free router.

Okay I figured it out, for all Canadian citizens when you ge the invitation you will have to switch the site into Canadian verion of the site it's at the bottom of every page you have many options to switch too, anyways when you receive the email with the invitation you will have a last number at the wend of the URL that needs to be copied that is the "promotion code" that need to be put in when you put one of the routers in your "cart", I will give a example email that has the promotion code:

Code:
                                      [URL="https://www.fon.com/en/main/FGFLandingMail?country=us&language=en&voucher=182592359709119"]https://***.fon.***/en/main/FGFLandingMail?country=us&language=en&voucher=105599601709119[/URL]

Tha last 15 number part of that link is the "promotion code" so use that as the promo code in the promo box.

Hmm, my invite email seems like it was messed up as it had no such code. I emailed them, and I guess I'll wait for a reply.

Once you set it up and go to the website, you can go to the 'my FON' part of the site and change your shared bandwidth using a slider.

I had the same problem! Mine just said "So and so wants you to join... go to www.fon.com"

no promo code, and even fon.com was a broken link (could click from the email). No more free routers for referrals maybe?

You should be able to via connecting to your foneros private signal. Once connected you should be asked to input your serial number. (if your not asked you may have to input the serial manually in a security key area on your 360.)

[quote name='Rouzuki']You should be able to via connecting to your foneros private signal.[/quote] How do I do that?!?

Which serial number?!?

Hmm something makes me think you didn't read your instruction manual's install guide!...Or the countless # of stickers all over the place.

Anywho, firstly plug your fonero router into your cable/DSL modem.
Secondly, let it configure itself. Third...ly search for a wireless signal with your xbox360. Fourthly connect to the signal named "My_Place". Fifthly, once connected you should be asked for a password, which is the Serial number on the sticker on the bottom of your fonero router. Sixthly...well there is no sixthly.

i'm having trouble finding the myplace wireless connection on my computer... yet it shows up on my wii?! what's going on here...can anyone help me? and i've even unplugged myself from the wired internet i'm usually plugged into and it still doesn't recognize a signal coming from it...my PC that is...?

Your wireless card getting any signals? If there are too many signals around you they could be clouding out the fonero sig too...

Uhhh dude the 360 does no have WiFi???? it only has wireless conectivity for like controllers????? is conectivity by any chance WiFi????

Well I don't own a 360, I was just under the impression that it did have one. But if you knew it didn't have one, why were you inquiring about the 360's compatiblity with a wireless router? =)
