full list of compatible xbox games for the 360
Why are you guys acting like this is a final list?

This is the first batch of games, these are games that will be BC at launch, more games will follow within the next few months! Quit pissing and moaning. For god's sake, Catwoman is BC, so chances are the game you want will eventually be added.
I'm surprised with some of the entries that are on there, and some of the entries that aren't.

I'm curious to know if they'll eventually make all the Xbox titles BC, or there will be some cut-off point that they don't do it.

Looks like they hit about 50-75% of my list, which was more credit than I was giving them off the bat. I'm wondering how far to 100% of my list they get.

That's almost quote-worthy. Great point.

Great news. That's far more games that I thought would be backwards compatible at launch. I'm halfway giddy right now.

Seriously! Man, I felt bad about getting a $400 system and only having 5 games.. now I can test out my other games.. kinda sucks that it'l be from the beginning but for some games, that's probably for the better..
People bitched when they thought it was only gonna be Halo, Halo 2 and Fable. When it's revealed to be 200+ games, they bitch some more.
Welcome to the Internet!
So doing some quick math, it looks like around 27% of the Xbox library will be compatible at launch.
Far more than I expected, and one of my biggest gripes about picking up a 360 out of the gate.

Still doesn't change it for me getting mine in 2006, though it's an encouraging step forward.

Wait, wait, wait....He-Man: Defender of Grayskull

I've got to take a closer look at this list. They might have padded it with some games that don't even exist. It amazes me how Microsoft can't keep an accurate account of what games are actually out for Xbox.

LOL, won't stop the fanboys from quoting the numbers though.

Okay, here are a bunch of games that are on that list that can't be backwards compatible in the U.S., since they never came out here.

Barbarian
Casino (What is this?)
He-Man: Defender Of Grayskull
MicroMachines
NFL Blitz 2004 (No such game exists, maybe they mean NFL Blitz Pro?)
Pro Evolution Soccer 5 (We call it Winning Eleven here in the States)
Puyo Pop Fever
Samurai Jack

How do you publish a list like this and have this many errors? And this is supposed to be our "official" list.

It is because imaginary games are much easier to emulate then real ones, duh!

Actually, maybe this is suppose to be the universal compatible list, inlcuding all regions so they don't have to make seperate ones for each area. Lazy I guess

Sure this is just the first list, but look how many of MS own games are missing particularly the Sports lineup. Granted most people didn't like the XSN franchise or want to play Bloodwake or Azurik, but their yours have some pride.

espn 2k5, toejam and earl 3, futurama, doa ultimate, steel battalion, defender, bloodrayne, blood wake and panzer dragoon orta are the only xbox games I've played extensively. Only futurama is supported out of those.

If you're going to be backward compatible, don't do a half assed job of it. And they should have made sure gamers who bought 200 dollar games (like steel battalion) actually get to play them on this system.

I was under the impression that Capcom was pulling online support for Steel Battalion anyway. Is this not true? What about that Capcom press statement?

I think Capcom dropped the "persistent world" mode of Steel Battalion. You can still play online in deathmatch-type games. You wouldn't be able to play on 360 anyway, as the controller plug is different.

I have the first steel battalion, not the online one. The first one I believe (from memory and looking at the box) does not have an online option. I don't even have xbox live, otherwise I would have bought the second one, which is online only.

Though, honestly, I pay minimal attention to the xbox. I had heard some of the compatability may be limited a while ago, but that's it. My reaction is probably different since I haven't been following the xbox or xbox 360. It's just I looked at that list, look at the games I've extensively played, and went "what the hell?"

Though I forgot I beat halo at a friends house, so they have 2 games I've played, but the vast majority still isn't compatible with it.

hey this is better than just halo and halo 2.. And it will get better in the weeks and months to come.. quit bitching.

And the reason that those odd games work is that once you get stuff like Halo 2 and Star Wars: KOTOR and Burnout (Renderware) running, you've got game engines emulated that many other titles use parts of. Games that use their own proprietary engines and aren't that popular (see PDO) Those games won't be along for a while, because there's more work involved in getting them running.

Im pleased with the list. very surprised.
Otogi 1 and 2 aren't on the list, nor is Panzer Dragoon Orta... way to go, Sega! :)
After a quick glance at the list the only sega games I see are the sonic games.

I imagine sega doesn't borrow or rent game engines or rent out their game engines to other companies very often. Probably all their own stuff done by various studios in sega.. thats why they'll be hard to emulate..

This isn't the final list, not by a longshot... There are games that are done now but weren't listed due to not being certified yet, and they're still working on a lot of other games. Give it a little time. If this were the final list, I'd be really pissed off. But there are a lot of Xbox games for them to plow through in such a short period of time... I'm actually very surprised that they had this many.

Steel Battalion was never going to be supported because you can't physically connect the controller to the 360, and its popularity wasn't high enough to even continue the online campaign. Though Capcom killed it somewhat when they decided that it wasn't profitable enough to fix the bugs that make it near impossible to play more than 3 vs 3 without everyone having an excellent connection. Its sad because its an excellent game.

the list is $uck...most of the games is JUNK. Where's all the AAA titles they mention ?? Don't tell MS plan release the CD 1 allow you play all of the games list above on XBOX 360 if you download the software and pay little $$$ for it. then release CD #2 and so on........!!

I'm very pleased. 200 is significantly better than the 2 we first thought. I'm especially happy with Call of Cthulu, Half Life 2, and Ninja Gaiden. My wishlist for the next round is Chaos Theory, Otogi, PoP:WW, and Far Cry.

It's a start, but I see no love for 2D fighters on that list.

No Capcom vs. SNK 2, no Guilty Gear, no King of Fighters, no Marvel vs. Capcom 2....

you're one step ahead of me.

if they just make those games BC, my xbox can officially become an emu/video file machine.

edit: and Fatal Frame 1 and 2

I think they will be quick to get Tecmo's releases backwards compatible. At least they should anyways.

I love all this bitching....I wish they would've just kept it at 3 games (there was less bitching then)

I wonder how all the new releases will be handled.

good to see KOTOR 1/2 and Crimson Skies on there. though it was obvious they would be backwards compatible, I was worried for a bit.

Very nice list. Wasn't expecting more than just a handful of titles. I'm not even a fan of BC, but I may pick up Ninja Gaiden Black, Stubbs, Call of Cthulu, plus quite a few other titles if I see them for 19.99 or less. I wonder if I should wait a week to play Half-Life 2 in 720p?

I'm really suprised to see Deathrow on there. That game was awesome.

24 out of my 66 games are on the list so far. i am surprised to see that so many games are bc at launch. i think thats a good sign.

Well...So much for getting a 360, I was gonna give my old XBOX to a friend of mine so he could play Battlefront with me online, but now theres no chance im blowing 400 on this
WTF! no steel battalion lol
and with what controller =p

Lol some of you seem to think they only do it based on popularity =p Sometimes some games are easier to emulate on the console than others.

Oh well Jade empire yay.

Great news. I'm glad to see such a large list, especially at launch. From every statement that I've read from M$, it seemed as though we would only get about a dozen games for backwards compatibility. This just made my day!
How is Prince of Persia Sands of Time on the list but PoP: WW isn't on there either?
Don't try to look for meaning on the compatibility list. (such as why is Catwoman on the list on not Splinter Cell?) Just know they are working on it.
Must not be a full list. Didn't they say that the list would be constantly updated?
Yes, and I wouldn't even trust this list 100%. There are games that never even came out (He-Man) and games that never were released in the North American region although the list is on the U.S. portion of the Xbox website. I'm going to start testing all the games I own once I have my 360 in my hands.

I'm imagining they focused on a few core games (Halo, Halo 2, Fable, Ninja Gaiden, etc) then changes they made to the code made these other games (most of the schlock) compatible as well. I'm sure they didn't come up and say "Hey, we need to make Drake backwards compatible right away!"

What the hell games were STAKE and TORK??? I love the list....some of the titles are definitely hilarious for backwards compatibility.

Ooooo.....DARK ANGEL

I read an interview that stated that they focused on game engines. Basically, Stubbs will be BC because Halo is. Many of these titles it seems they got a big one to work, and several crappy titles just happened to work because of it.

As far as Splinter Cell, I'm hoping soon, but I noticed no Unreal engine games were on the list. (UC, UC2, Project Snowlind, Splinter Cell). I'm guessing when they get one of those up, they'll all come. I hope they keep the updates coming regularly. I'm not going to start anything that's BC since you can't transfer saves and I'd rather play them in 720p. That's the real cherry on top for me.
