I was browsing through this week's game deals and a thought occured to me. Is it true that we will be able to play the physical GCN games on the Wii? I don't own a Gamecube but have been seeing some great deals on games I've always wanted to play.

So, would it be a good idea for me to snag a few games in anticipation for our beloved next-gen console?

EDIT: Holy moly I just posted this in the DS/GBA forum. Could someone move it?

Yes, the disc drive takes both Wii discs and original Gamecube discs.

Gamecube games won't be part of the download service; they're too big to download and store. You have to use phyiscal copies of the games.

hopefully they'll have the hardware emulated.

on a related note, it should be a law to not do software emulation on a console ever again.

Should be. The Wii is just a souped up GC (more RAM with some other tweaks, enhancements, and what not).

Dane.

Well the Wii is supposed to basically be more powerful GC hardware, I'd be surprised if there wasn't 100% compatibility.

EDIT: Holy shit three people posting at the exact same time, must be some kind of record.
