My Shadows of the Damned arrived today. Disk and Case in absolutely great condition. Now to make time (and get in the right mindset) to play this messed up game.
5?? You don't know what a backlog is son.

I easily have enough of this gens games in my backlog to solidly play for years. 5 wouldn't even dent it. In fact the other day I found a stash of about 10 games I bought last month from gamefly and gamestop that I had forgotten about! At some point I went from playing them, to collecting them, to now hoarding them. I still play but no way I'll ever play them all. Every time I want to another great game comes out.
I've a better one, I bought Splatterhouse from Gamefly weeks ago and didn't realize I had bought it already...new.

Traded in a bunch of "shit" games to Amazon shortly thereafter. I had to open a game just so it would be used and not resold as new.

I really need to limit myself to top tier games.

EDIT - I just counted a portion of my backlog...126 current gen games...75% brand new, unopened...not including 100+ PSN games and 30+ PSP games.

I am proud to say I've recently finished Medal of Honor, Bulletstorm, Bloodstone, Homefront (worst game ever), and am about done with Singularity.

I'm keeping Singularity...

On the bright side, games are going to be really cheap after I've cleared the backlog.

All you guys already getting WWE All Stars is making me jealous. Was hoping I would get it today so I can play before I watch Raw. Hope it comes soon.

Really? After Bloodstone, Homefront is still the worst game ever?? C'MON MAN!

Seriously though everyone knows E.T. for the 2600 is the official worst game ever.

1. i am not a gamefly member. how much is shipping for non-members? can you sign up just to buy used games or do you have to get a Plan in order to sign up?

2.are the games complete? do they come with original case, disk and manual? are the disks scratched up?

anyone know?

I put Bloodstone on easy and blew through it with melee combat...pretty fun.
E.T. is over exaggerated on it's badness.
As someone old enough to have played it as a kid...no, no it's not. That game was so confusingly bad even for that era. You just stared at it blankly. Nothing made any sense.

Besides even if you give E.T. a pass there's still Smurf: Rescue from Gargamel's castle. I think that was the first time I ever swore as a kid...

I actually liked E.T. one of my favorites on the Atari.

I'd prefer it over Pitfall or Pole Position any day.

no way. it was awful then, it's awful now. it's awful. utterly awful.

Shipping is the same for non-members. Some games and specials have free shipping. You do not have to sign up for their rental service to purchase games, but you do have to open an account with them. Cases and menus are brand new. As for the scratches, click on my link below to see all the chips on all my games from Gamefly.

Just received my Heavy Rain disc and unfortunately it won't even start or display a disc icon on the Cross media bar. I tried cleaning it with my alcohol and lint free wipes that I have, but I guess the scratches that are on the game are too much for my PS3 slim to handle. It makes a horrible ejection-like noise after 20 seconds of futility trying to load the game but the disc stays inside my PS3.

Ah well, 1-1 for my gamefly used purchases so far.

I had E.T when I was a kid. I didn't know it was "bad." It was the only game I had for a while and I actually managed to get him home. It was always a fond memory, a proud moment, for me until I discovered the internet and saw all the hate for it...

wow i saw your chipped gamefly disks. no wonder they sell em so cheap. its a good thing i didnt buy any. thanks

I have probably picked up 7 or 8 games from these sales - and not one game has had chips or not worked. I would say 6 of them looked like new, 1 had some scuffs which came right off when I rubbed the disc down with a wet cloth, and one had some light scuffs but still worked perfectly. I would say if you see a game at a price you like - buy it without worry.

I have been a member for like 4 years. 2 games at a time plus bought games used from them. All told I have had one not work. And that game had no chips or scratches at all, it simply would not read.

Yes you will see games with the clamp marks on the disk edge, but I have never had that affect gameplay at all.

Yeah! I keep thinking that I was the exception of the bunch since 5 out of 5 games have horrible, deep chips in them. But I can't be the only one since all of my games came like that. When I first started posting about these chips, people were doubting me until someone here (one of the moderators) asked for pictures (which are posted in my album via the link in my signature).

I was scared shitless after reading about how I shouldn't be playing these chipped games in my PS3 in the event that the high-speed spinning of the discs can exacerbate those chips into cracks that will then explode the discs inside my PS3.

Some other CAG member also warned me not to return more than 2 games because of these chips, because Gamefly will ban you, which is just ridiculous really.

Anyway, good luck to you!

Both games I've purchased from GF in the past month have had these same chips on the edge but both games played fine. The chips are on the very outside edge and don't appear to impede any of the readable data written on the disc.

I sure hope my copy of Heavy Rain is playable...

All this chip talk is getting me scared. Sucks to hear that you got 5 games like that. And from the pics, your chips look pretty bad. Well, any chip is bad for me lol. I too would be scared to play any of them in your system.

And that sounds silly that they would ban you for returning games you feel is defective. I'm still waiting for my game. I hope it isn't chipped.

Well I have only ordered twice from these deals, and I can say that I am 2 for 2 in near PERFECT games. So theres that.

Hey. Thanks for the support and kind words. One of the main reasons why I posted those pictures of the 5 games from Gamefly is the hope that they will take notice, and stop sending out to all of us.

I'm hoping that once they stop sending out chipped discs these nightly sales will still be going on, and that I won't miss all the holiday sales in general. But I won't be buying from them again until I get confirmation from fellow CAG members that Gamefly has stopped this practice.
Hopefully, they have and yours will be chipped free.

I've always taken care of my things meticulously, and I was very disappointed when all 5 of my games came like that.

Take care.

Got my Shadows of the Damned today and it's in the worst shape I have ever received from Gamefly. The disc is completely scratched-up. The disc looks like someone threw it across a gravel parking lot. I am not going to even put that in my system. Already shot off an email to Gamefly requesting a replacement. I can accept some scratches but this is excessive.

Sorry to hear that others are having issues with their purchases too. Gamefly is usually much better than this so I am surprised.

WWE All-Stars showed up today. I want top pop it in, but I'm working on Shadow of the Colossus and I hate starting too many games. Hopefully I'll finish that up in a day or two and give WWE a try.

I have some chips on the side but there not many. I think the worst game i got was top spin 4 which just had finger prints all over it.

hope we see something good tonight.

Do they even do replacements? I was told that they would only refund you.

They do not. If you receive a disc in shitty condition, you can return it for refund only. You're basically SOL for the deal.

The chips seem to be caused by GameFly's new inventory system. The last few months I've been receiving chipped discs even with new rentals. RAGE, Dead Island and Resistance 3 were all Day One rentals from Gamefly and they ALL had a chip on the edge. My first chipped disc was a Day One rental of Dead Space 2 and every disc since then has been the same. The older the disc the more chips they would have (Dungeon Siege 3 was rented about 3 months after release and it had 4-5 major chips).

It can't be the USPS machines. I've watched my rentals and more times than not the chip is on a portion of the disc encased in the cardboard sleeve. This is getting to be a real problem.

That's a shame, because my copy of SotD is in mint condition. My copy of Heavy Rain, on the other hand... the disc looks FUBAR, but it still manages to play. I guess YMMV with GameFly...

Does GF use different machines than Netflix because Netflix disks don't have these chips (not that I really care, they have yet to affect playability).

I agree with you. That's what I've been saying all along. I even read that article of Gamefly blaming the Postal Service for the chips. But Netflix also send their discs with USPS, and their discs don't have any chips.

Gamefly just need to fix this. If it requires an additional sleeve like the one used by Netflix, then they should just implement that already. It's an easy enough fix. Since the problem has not been address, and it's still on going, I have to assume that the problem lies with Gamefly's very own sorting system.
I hardly think buying an ex-rental copy is supporting anything.
Showing even gaining achievements is a measurable and quantifiable justification on the numbers of eyeballs a game reaches.

Achievements were made to hook gamers and to watch their actions. So even playing this game is sending a message.

After learning about the details of it and how is misinforms the player, it's just terri-bad.
Don't support Call of Juarez:

http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/call-of-juarez-the-cartel

Just don't buy that game. Watch the video for the scoop.
Who would use a video game as an information source for current events or history. It is a video game not a history lesson and they have zero responsibility to provide an accurate history unless they present the product as being an accurate portrayal of that history. It would be called creative license. Is Call of Duty WW is a factual historic recreation of WW2? Movies take creative license all the time. Have you ever watch a movie based on a book or a pre-modern historical figure.

Someone at PA has an axe to grind with the publisher obviously. If you don't like the game don't play it but to attack it solely on some perceived lack of accuracy is wrong

Back on subject got my apache air assault and shift 2. Played shift 2 and the disc looks flawless. Haven't tried the other yet.

I have been purchasing used PS3 games from gamefly for the past couple years and probably 80% of the disks have come with chips on them. It is not something they recently implemented that has caused the chipping...this has been going on for years. Back when I received Soul Calibur 4 from one of their sales years ago, there was a good 4 or 5 chips on the outer ring of the disk. I honestly do not care about receiving them like this though, as all of the games that come like like have played fine and none of the chips have ever progressed further into the disk. I would prefer that it would stop though.

Did I miss something or does Gamefly want to get rid of all their old/crap games? They've been marked down a few bucks.

Nevermind, seems like it's only for a couple games anyway.

Anyone else getting super annoyed by the "Chipped discs!" crowd? You're getting massively discounted games because the discs have been shipped all over the country to be played by countless gamers. That's why they're cheap: you shouldn't expect perfection. If your game is broken and doesn't play, gamefly allows you to return it.

If you're so concerned about your discs being perfect, buy new. Otherwise, stop going to the thrift store and whining about loose threads & stains on all the clothes. I'm just so sick of this thread being filled with this ridiculous crusade.
