With a credit card, you generally have 90 days from when you got the erroneous statement. Paypal is not the only option here.
That said, it's likely the best one. Gamersgate's records have got to be a complete mess. It's not like they want to give refunds to people that got keys while withholding them from people who did not get keys. They might not be able to figure out what is up with your orders and payments and the status thereof with the records that they have. A paypal dispute and claim might be the quickest and easiest way to get things resolved.
I like how one paragraph you are suggesting they delay using their dispute options, then the next paragraph agree with me. Makes no sense.
But if GG is being silent, and any option at your disposal is running out to be able to use it, then dispute now. Use all available options. But never delay and miss an option.
I once had identify theft. I contacted my bank within 24 hrs of the first occurrence, and apparently the bank did nothing. Another 24 hrs goes buy, and more fraud. I contact my bank again, and this time they take action and freeze my account.
But since it took two contacts and nothing happened on the first contact, the bank made me fight the fraud. We fought it out for over half a year.
And I'm even a former employee (and thanks to this, former customer) of said bank.
One of their arguments was that I never filed a police report on the fraud. But since the 2nd 24 hrs of fraud was on the bank for not taking action on the first contact I made to them, I went ahead and filed a police report against my bank for all of the fraud that occurred between my first contact and the 2nd contact.
That got it all settled very quickly, and a written apology from the bank.
The police believe it was an inside job. (The way my money was being accessed was through an acct that I had closed two years earlier... Also the amount in question made what occurred a felony, not a misdemeanor...)
But you never, ever delay making any dispute options at your disposal if the person defrauding you has gone silent. This delay will be the first thing argued against you.
I just realized: were you talking about a payment made with a CC through Paypal then? Otherwise PP's not involved at all.
If it's a CC through PP, you have to go through PP. If you file a chargeback with your CC, you're going against PP, NOT GG.
If you do a chargeback against PP, PP will go through a collection agency to get their money back. SO if that's what you were advising, it was terrible advice. The buyer is still out their money, and now have a negative report on their credit rating.
