50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

I stopped yesterday to check and the store was CLOSED...no power. Oh well, I guess I didn't miss anything, although, now I cannot get back there until Friday maybe. I think I'm down to about $72 in credit now.

Buy 2 Get 1 Free is the better deal. Let's compare

6 games @$20.00 each.

B2G1F:
$20 + $20 + ($20 - $20) + $20 + $20 + ($20 - $20) = $80 (33% off)

B1G1_50%:
$20 + ($20 - $10) + $20 + ($20 - $10) + $20 + ($20 - $10) = $90 (25% off)

Of course it will vary with the amount and price of the games you want to buy, but in general, B2G1F has greater potential for savings and is the better deal.
 
I stopped by my GR on the way home from work this evening. Nothing worth buying. I did see something interesting though... GR had a used PS3 for sale. I wonder what kind of trade in value that person got? I'm surprised GR would take trade-ins on those since they had problems getting rid of the new units they got.

:bomb: And here I was sitting with a bunch of credit HOPING they'd get one in before they shut down. No luck... Oh well, I was able to burn the credit on clearance games before they closed and afterwards as well (thanks to a helpful CAG). So now my 360 collection is over 15 games even though I don't have a system yet :lol:.

I remember you talking about your GR let one dude hoard all of their PS3 systems. At that time I was frantically hunting a PS3 for myself as well. Little did I know that starting at the beginning of the year I would be more shocked if a store didn't have one in stock! My GR never got any PS3's until they were plentiful everywhere else. Then they kept putting signs on the door saying how they had the "hard to find" PS3's in stock NOW! I've noticed here in the last few weeks they've started getting in Wii accessories and new DS lite systems.
 
My GR has MANY Wii accessories...I don't have one, but I noticed them there.

Did GR drop the prices of USED games of the clearance games yet? I would like to get Tiger Woods 07 for even cheaper with the deal B1G1-50%.

They probably never will drop the used prices until MSRP on those games goes down. For the clearance last summer those games never got cheap used. It really sucks, too, because they drop the trade-in values to nothing, yet sell them for "full" used price. Since a good chunk of older games are now part of either 1 of the 2 clearances, it will be hard to find good trade-in fodder at Blockbuster from now on.
 
Saw Gears of War Collector's Edition on the clearance rack with a 50% off sticker...didn't try buying it since I don't have a 360. Not sure if that was was reported already, part of the 3rd round of drops, or an error. I believe with the 50% bonus at EB/GS you could make a bit of profit trading it in there though.

I did buy:

Powerpuff Girls PS2 - $5
Suikoden V - $20
Resident Evil 4 (Non-G.H.) (PS2) - $10

I'd already been to this GR 3 times during the clearance since it's where I rent my movies every week, and these 3 games mysteriously appeared from the back room along with a few others. They definitely weren't there the other 3 times I checked or I would have bought them then.
 
Star Trek Legacy (360) scanned at $30 after 50% off on Friday, so I'm not sure how that other member got lucky and got it for $20.

Some games that are NOT 50% off:

X-Men Legends (PS2) - Appears only the Xbox version is on sale.
College Hoops 2K6 (360) - I thought for sure this one would be 50% off, but it's not.
 
So no new word on this supposed third wave of clearance games? I figured if there were some hot Wii or X360 titles, someone would have noticed by now.
I'd be interested to know if Scarface (PS2 or Xbox) was a part of the new list, if anyone manages to get a look at a list (if there is one!)
 
Just stopped at my Blockbuster one last time and there were no new titles. In fact, I think someone went in and snatched a bunch of the last half decent titles there, because it much more cleared than last time. The two copies of Guitar Hero II (game only) were gone and a bunch others. Dungeon Siege (PSP) was still there, but it isn't worth $20. I ended up buying NHL 07 (PSP) for $15 (which was there from day one). I won't be stopping in again unless there is another wave of games/sale...which I highly doubt.

I dont remember if I had posted the find, But my wife found it for me for $20 as well. It was new at $40 with the discount of course it was 20.

Saints Row was worth the $60 I paid for it.

The game is the best GTA style game to date... nothing else even comes close.

Took me around 45 hours to get 100% on the single player mode, and then there is multiplayer on top of it.

i went to one of my local blockbusters the other night and i totally forgot this sale was still going on. so i picked up suikoden IV brand new for $10. they had few really good games that im going to have to go back and pick up, prob. tomorrow

a few of the good games i saw there that i might go pickup:

valkyrie profile 2- $25 (might wait for this one to go down to $20 or $15
god hand- $10 (deff. getting this one)
nhl 2k7- $10 (might get this)
godfather: le- $20 (might get this, dunno)

that was about it at that location

im going to try the others around my area to see their selections b/c the guy working at this one told me that suikoden V was on clearance for only $10 too

if by Valkyrie profile you mean Vaklyrie profile lenneth for the psp the price at Game rush for it is 39.98 which means it would be half of that.

Anybody seen any extra 360 guitar controllers at GR? I'm thinkin they don't sell the guitar by itself, but I'm just double checking. Thanks!

The $10 Suikoden would be Suikoden IV.

I don't remember seeing any separate guitars at the four GameRush stores I looked at, though, none of them had any Xbox360 Guitar Hero games, so they may just have been out of stock/didn't recieve any.

From what I've seen at stores here, the $15 one is Valkyrie Profile 2 (PS2).
 
i went to another one of my local blockbusters tonight and they had a few good games on sale there.

i picked up:

disgaea 2- $25 (last copy, heck yeah!)
legend of river king- $5 (my gf and I love these natsume games)


i also saw these notable games:

valkyrie profile: lenneth- $15
legend of heroes- $15
suikoden IV- $10
kingdom of paradise- $10
just cause 360- $20 (only 360 game i saw on clearance)
tourist trophey- $20

that was all i can remember really

im going to hit up the other blockbusters in my area tomorrow after i pickup up my paycheck lol cant wait to see what all they have at them:bouncy:

I havent been to a blockbuster non gamerush store ever. Do they have a stock of clearance games? And are there any gamerush stores around riverside area? I moved from manhattan beach where there were 3 stores within 15miles.

Non-GameRush stores do have clearance games. However, they usually don't have much to choose from, and may not take part in some promotions (one took part in the 50% sale, but not the 75% clearance).

I don't see how they can avoid it - the prices (and promo) are automatic Blockbuster-wide in the computer. I went to a non-Gamerush store here, where they don't carry ANY new games (they seem to have decided in the last 6 months not to district-wide and have removed what little they had), let alone clearance ones. I was able to return/repurchase two games (that were part of the second drop) I bought at my Gamerush for full price before they closed the store. They rang up as $29.98 - $14.99 "coupon" just like at Gamerush. And since these stores don't even sell new games I'd imagine one that actually does will work the same way, whether they have signage up for it or not. I also found plenty of games at 75% last summer at regular stores (before they yanked all those games out for some reason :cry:). Same (automatic) deal - I shocked many a clerk by getting $19.99 or $29.99 games (as many weren't even correctly tagged pre-sale) for $5 or $2.75 or whatever...
