50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

Q: If I ask something that is clearly laid out here in the OP, will shipwreck make fun of me?

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

What Zelda Twilight Princess for the Cube is only getting $2.50 in trade or do you mean Zelda: WW?
 
I stopped by my usual GameRush last night and they still had a bunch of 360 games...I was tempted, but I may save my credit as I have too many games to play right now anyways. I may pick up some PSP games as a gift though.

I was suprised though, the 50% table seemed pretty full still. Tiger Woods 07 is tempting though.....but with MLB and Saint's Row still playing, probably not ;)

So, what are others looking for? If anyone has any HD-DVD or Blu-Ray discs, hit me up with a PM and I'll try to pick up some games for you today (I have to return Total Access today)

Nope, I saw multiple copies of the Hulk Ultimate Destruction PS2 with blue stickers on them at one of the GR's in west LA, indicating they are 50% off. The lady used these blue dots to mark the games that are 50% off, but missed a whole bunch especially the X360 games. Thankfully that worked in my favor, as I snagged the last copies of quite a few winners.

Actually I was saying the one at Amazon.com was for the PS2. The gamecube version at Amazon costs more.
 
I was able to snag Hitman: Blood Money for the 360 and after calling all the Gamerushes near me I finally found a copy of Dead Rising about 30 minutes away. Well worth the trip to save 30 bucks

Oh, sorry. This place is killing me! Can't keep track of all these crazy discounts and specials...
 
i stopped into the 3 local ones near me, only 1 had a display stand and only had the arcade unleashed, the other 2 stores were either out or something, they didnt have any of the titles on the NEW shelves tho. at the one store, all 50% off games had yellow dot sticker on them

i was hoping to get dead rising, since its still $40 at GS/EB used.

just got my 360P yesterday :D

During the peak period of the GameRush trading deals 2 or 3 years ago I want to about 12 different GR stores in the LA area, but I only ever went to that one once... it was the worst of the bunch. They had their own rules for everything and were extremely anal about trade-ins.

There's a store in Fallbrook I've been to a few times that you can try. There's also one in Tarzana on Ventura Blvd that I've gone to quite a bit and they're usually pretty cool... or at least they were a year ago... I haven't been there since last year's clearance sale burned up the last of my trade-in credit.
 
The Atlanta area stores all seem to have a ton of good stuff for all the systems. PS2 and PSP RPG and quirky games are cleared out, but a lot of the other stuff is left. I recommend the stores on the south side, since it looks like the north side ones have been hit by people looking for the good games.
 
I just picked up Guitar Hero 2 for $25, Dead Rising for $30 and Xbox live arcade for $15. All in the Moreno Valley CA location, they still have a good amount of stuff there. including madden07, ncaa 07, enchanted arms and xenosaga3's among alot of others. thanks CAG!
 
Went to the Gamerush in Torrance, CA on Hawthorne and picked up the last Xenosaga III and Tales of the Abyss (18.00 fyi) over there. There's a couple more Tales games left, but nothing much to write home about.

GR is starting to suck on many trade-ins... Makes me feel better about my store closing ;). The horrible price on Shrek SuperSlam makes me think it is part of this current clearance, as that is fairly new and you'd think would fetch at least as much as Arena Football! I think TS:FP was part of the last clearance and they have kept it low ever since. You'd think they would bump those back up now that all the stock is pretty much gone from those sales.

I'll probably bring in Arc The Lad, in any case. I got it at Sears for $7. And probably Monster Rancher Evo too. I need just a bit more credit for my last clearance game run ;).

I turned $23.91 into $38 of BB credit - woefully unprofitable compared to most of my trades, but decent considering I was desperate for a bit more credit for the clearance sale. That Monster Rancher was not from TRU but CC where they matched the GamePro coupon (so it was $12). This may very well be my last trade at Blockbuster for some time. However, I will keep an eye out for the next triple you guys come up with and get the occasional bit of credit from those.
 
I scored today N3 for $14.99 and Hitman blood and money for $14.99 in Mesquite, Tx, there is a ot of games stll available at two locations here the one on Davis and Piooner had some N3, SC:DA, Lego Star Wars

the one in I-30 and Beltline have the same games plus a lot of Quake 4 but they are not part of the sale.
 
Can't recall if this was mentioned already, but my GR got in Diddy Kong Racing DS yesterday...first DS game I've seen them get in a long while. No sign of Lunar Knights or Hotel Dusk though.

Wow, that's pretty bad. Even my pathetic store got 3 copies of this in the Friday after it released.

I totally forgot something strange I saw yesterday. So, besides a few games and (surprisingly) Wii Play, they have gotten nothing Wii related in - no systems, no remotes, no Wii Points cards, etc. Well I noticed yesterday behind the counter they had some third party controller glove (some flourescent blue number that included covers for both the remote and nunchuk). It was $9.99. Has anyone else seen these? Are they any good? I am tempted to pick it up late next week if I still have any credit left. Though knowing them they will ship it off to another store before then (despite having just got it in).

The front table with games is now clearly marked with a huge 50% off sign, but that doesn't seem to have made much difference. I guess people just don't think of buying games there. A few were gone from the other day - the other copy of Phantasy Star Universe, and a few more. Still several Madden 07, and lots of regular Xbox and PS2 games (though nothing spectacular to be sure).

Just realized people were saying Hulk for Xbox was only $7.50. I think they had one of those, maybe I'll snag it. It is really $7.50 while the GC one is $15?
 
Is guitar hero on sale the one with the guitar? if yes. i'd kill myself. i saw them last week.. but didn't bother to follow this thread :(

I was debating between the GC version (since I have a GC) and the Xbox (since I will probably have one at some point soon), but the price different made it easy.

And I'll either get a 360 in the next year (hey, Hulk ain't gettin any cheaper than $4 in real money by that time) or more likely my friend made mention of hooking me up with his modded Xbox as a wedding gift in a couple months.
 
All the stores I've been to have been on top of the clearance this time and have signs and tables (at the bigger stores) or racks (at the smaller stores). The games seem to be moving a bit more quickly than during the summer clearance, especially since most stores didn't seem to even know about the clearance until stuff hit 75% off. Hopefully, these games hit 75% off in the next couple weeks while there's still a few good games in the wild, assuming they're going to go down to 75% off at all.
 
Just got back from two Gamerushes. At the gamerush in Anaheim, CA I picked up the last Incredible Hulk xbox and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time xbox. Then I went over to a gamerush in Garden Grove, CA and picked up their last Zelda: Wind Waker. I noticed they had three Hulks there for xbox, 3 or 4 Dead or Alive 3's, Mario Sunshine and a good selection of other assorted titles. I'm still keeping my eye out for Darkwatch and Metroid Prime.
 
I just got back from Rowlett Texas games are going fast especially for 360 put I picked up the last Bionale Heros, Civil War, and Hitman Blood Money. I also got Xbox LIve arcade and Outrun for psP.

There are a ton of pS2 and Xbox games left......

Picked up Zelda (GC) for 30, Shadow Hearts : FTNW for 10 (awesome deal) and Tales of the Abyss for 20. Fairly happy, although I may return Zelda later if its not good trading fodder.
 
Went to the one in Anahiem CA and ran into a weird checkout error. They had 1 copy of Super Smash Bros. Melee (it was 14.98 after discount) in the case :lol: So I was at the Garden Grove store yesterday and they had Sonic Heroes for GC tagged at $9.99. The Anahiem store had it tagged for 19.99. I also grabbed the Sonic Gems collection for 19.99 to see if it might be a sale title also. When shen rang the whole thing up and hit total the Sonic Gems had no discount so I told the lady that I didn't want it. She was really nice about it too! So after a couple of tries of removing it she said the total with tax was $21.20??? I said great and paid for the stuff. When I got to the car I noticed that the receipt had a cupon for $4.98 off Sonic Heroes (the receipt said 14.99 less 4.98).
I think that when she tried to remove the Sonic Gem it only chaged me 4.98 for the Sonic Hereos. :applause:

I picked up a couple of titles for this sale. Yes it works at Blockbusters but good luck finding any blockbusters that sell new games! I called like 30 in my area and only 2 confirmed that they even had any new games. I also drove around to like 5 BB's beforehand and only one location had new games. This was also a newer blockbuster BTW. So you may have your best luck in a newer store.

I also got beyond lucky at that same GR (douglasville). It was a case of employees finding the games on the clearance list, then marking them half off of their CURRENTLY marked price, and not first jacking the price up to the price on the list. So I found Enchanted Arms for $20. Naturally, it rings up wrong, and the store manager comes over to fix it from $30 to $20. While she's doing this, I tell her that another copy is on the shelves also with the $20 price, in case she needs to have that fixed. She thanks me sincerely, and walks off after adjusting the price so the clerk who began ringing me up can finish.

By now my total is down to $17ish. $5 for Sonic Heroes and $10 for EA. "well, now it's too cheap" I tell the guy. But by this time there's a line behind me so, "I'll just shut up now" and I take my games and leave.

I definately have to go back and pay the difference. Don't want to, but right is right.


Okay, here's a serious question.

I know I've seen Cthulhu around at one of the locals, and it *looks* interesting. But I like to stay away from games with demon type shtick, and everything about the game makes me feel that there's stuff in there there that I want to stay away from. If anyone around here has played it or can tell me, I'd appreciate knowing one way or another what is involved in the game.

Just don't forget to use Spoiler tags if necessary. I don't want to ruin the story for everyone.

I just got back in from a tri-county romp, scoring the following for the 360: Lego Star Wars II, Enchanted Arms, Splinter Cell DA, and Dead Rising!!! Also scored Tales of the Abyss for PS2.

I'd been totally jonesing for Dead Rising and was nearly ready to cave when I saw this thread. It's one of the games that made me wanna get a 360, and the demo really rocked my socks.

Anyway, thanks again for being out on the front lines in the war against paying full price!

Also: For those of you with multiple Game Rush's in the commuting area, hit 'em all and you're likely to see a few interesting price shifts. Enchanted Arms was marked $30 at one store by me and $25 at another.

I think Wombat and Cheapy talked about it on a really old CAGcast, both remarking that it was pretty intense. It averaged 78% on gamerankings.com, with two scores in the 60s bringing down the 80s from other reviewers. Could be a compelling purchase.

thats cause in the system there is enchanted arms and enchanted arms with comic. the comic version is 60, the other is 50. they probably priced it wrong, but their loss.
