50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

Well this is BS. I stopped by two BlkB's today (neither of them have a GR) and there are a crapload of 360 games. But nothing is clearanced, so they'll just sit there overpriced; for years. This is awesome.

If I understand correctly, it should ring up the clearance price starting today 3/27 after hitting the Total key. But go back to the store and ask again for the exact price (.98) to see if Disgaea 2 did go on clearance at your store.

/rant[/quote]New or Used? If they're new and the titles on the clearance list they may be on clearance. But the discount doesn't show up until hitting the Total key. That's why you have to ask specifically what the price is.
 
No they're all used games. But it doesn't really seem to make sense, I mean why just clearance the new games, why not just get rid of the old as well. As I said previously, this BB doesn't have a GR; but they're are a at least 50 games (all 360) at both stores. It just makes no sense at all.

Uh, those probably came from my store. I was all set to buy 2 of them and they sent them off to some other store a few weeks back. It was highly annoying. They should be $39.99 as someone else noted. The ones from my store were tagged that way though, so if they are untagged then maybe they aren't the 2 from my store ;).

By the way, you know you people are torturing me with these lists. I can't wait to see what's on it tomorrow :cry:.

Scobie & EmeraldKing - It has always been that way with GR. They won't drop the used prices until the standard MSRP comes down. So expect those used Saint's Rows (et al) to be higher than the new prices at GR for quite a while.

However, if they keep the same policy as with the last clearance, they will start giving next to nothing for trade-in for these games, even well after the new stock is sold out. And that is really stupid because they will still sell them used for $16.99 or $19.99, but then only give you $1 for them - worse than GS on those games. And with the clearance sales starting to encompass tons of games, it will be harder to find decent trade-ins at GR. In that respect, I'm glad I'm out ;).
 
If the new clearance does in fact begin tomorrow, can someone post that for me? It's not that I'm lazy especially since I have a GR across the street (I mean that in the literal sense), but there are cheap hardcore gamers who work there and I don't want them to be alerted ahead of time if I can avoid it. I got the drop on them last time although my hesitation to get Twilight Princess cost me as they snagged them all in the few minutes between when I left the store and came back to get it. Thanks in advance.
 
I guess today I'll be one of the first to report on this... I'm heading over to Blockbuster / Gamerush in a few minutes - they are right next to a Target I'm going to so I'll be there as soon as they open, and I'll be back by 11 am EST to report on the prices.
 
I'm going to Gamerush later today...but without a list with me, I won't have much to report as I doubt they'll have the games marked this early. I'll ask the manager if I can see the list if he has one though...last time he let me carry the list around with me and pull games before they even changed the price stickers. The time before that, he didn't have a list until about 2 weeks after the clearance started.

From the lists people have posted so far, the only games I want are Katamari and WTF for PSP. I don't really recall seeing WTF at Gamerush though, so I may have to drive around to find that one.
 
Went to two GR stores today and my experience has been pretty much a bust as far as 360 games go. No Godfather, no Saints Row, no Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. In fact the only 360 game they had was LOTR: BFME 2 and that was priced at $30 (though I assume they are just late in updating prices). If anyone can score me a cheap copy of Godfather 360, I'd be grateful.

I just got Suikoden V and Metal Gear Portable Ops, at TWO DIFFERENT GAMERUSH'S, and both rang up $39.98, even after they hit total.

I thought prices ending in 8 were clearance prices? What is going on?

And how easy is it to return / rebuy at Gamerush when / if the clearance prices go into effect?

Woah. I would ask if you're sure, but I know you're not BSing us.
At my GR, I saw the stack last night, and even asked the manager if those were the games that were going on sale tommorow (which would be today). She said "yep."

I've got errands to run, but I'll check this out. I'm sure there will be plenty of posts before I get back, though.

I can even scan in the receipts... believe me, my girlfriend isn't too happy I just blew $80 on games when it was only supposed to be $40.

We assumed the person at the first Gamerush just fucked up, so we went to the second, and sure enough, MGS PO was $39.98.

The only thing I can think of is maybe I just went too early? I honestly don't know.
 
Just return the games Roufuss, and either wait until the clearance goes into effect or try to talk the management into manually discounting them. No way I would keep them.

I can say with some certainty that the manager at my local store definately thought that the games would go on clearance starting today. He already had them pulled and everything, and I even asked him if the prices went into effect tomorrow (now today) and he said "yeah" so if there's a problem, it appears to be a screw-up at the POS programming level.

I would imagine that all stores will need to manually discount the games today or they will have to wait until tomorrow. Most stores like BB/GR get POS updates overnight.

The only problem was that they were the only copies between two stores, and right now I have no car so even if I return them, someone else may snatch them up before I have a chance to get back there and buy them.

They can't manually discount the games, at least here, because the employees have no list apparently of what should be discounted - all the games on this new 50% off list were still on the racks, at both Gamerush's.

I can only hope that when this clearance does in fact go into effect, I can just simply go to a Gamerush, explain what happened, and ask to return and rebuy the two games right there.

I wish I could talk them down into manually discounting them but the people who work at the GR's here are dicks, and will tell me "there is no new list, it's only those games over there"... I know this without even trying =/

I mean, the games WERE priced like they were clearance games, all ending in .98 instead of .99, they just weren't coming up 50% off at all.

Yea, but the crappy thing is that we can't check the prices over the phone, because many stores don't stay on top of reprice lists. Since the price doesn't show up on the computer as being discounted or not, it makes the sale even more of a pain in the ass.

Definitely... and now with other titles showing up at 50% off, I'm hoping someone can either find a Suikoden V or a Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops to confirm if they really are 50% off or not.

This clearance is a giant pain in the ass.

I'm just hoping that whoever got the Suikoden V and the MGS Portable Ops wasn't some kind of mistake with the GR employees... even still, the games ended in .98!!!

You can figure out if they are on clearance pretty easy. Ask an employee to check the price. If the total ends in .98 its a clearance game and will total at half price when the sale is being made.

Which isn't true, at least not for me, because both of my games ended in .98 and they ended up costing me full price.

THE SALE IS NOT ON...YET. Please read this post before posting anything stupid.

The prices are CORRECT IN THE COMPUTER. Meaning the new round of stuff SHOULD be 50% off.

For some reason, the COUPON is not registering. Yesterday, employees assumed it'd would start TODAY due to when thats when the barcodes change or something. They were WRONG.

Multiple stores told me they would not manually adjust prices, but to wait for a START date. No one has never seen a start date on this, so just be patient.

IN LAYMANS TERMS, there are 2 possibilities: 1) Its a coputer glitch involving the coupon and when it gets fixed the sale is on or 2) It just hasnt started yet.

Also Rouf, I can confirm that Suikoden V is on the drop list (as well as Shining Force Neo and Grandia III). A couple other notable games I saw today:

Final Fantasy V ($15)
Mario Party 7 ($25)

So enough with the dumbass posts "OMG SALE ON" "OMG NO SALE" "OMG THEY DONT RING UP" "OMG IS THIS YMMV" etc.

Sigh... well Roufuss, I think some guy said that he saw the list yesterday, and that MGS wasn't on it. Someone else made the point that maybe that was because it wasn't in stock. Take it for what you will.
 
Thanks... now I'll just have to deal with the whole return / rebuying fiasco, but I'll simply tell them a manager told me the 50% off sale had already started, it hadn't, and I want to return and rebuy them with the 50% off.

I'm expecting a huge fucking hassle.

I'm pretty sure MGS PO is on the list since it did in fact end in .98. I'm just kind of eager to get my $40 back.

I noticed Blockbuster didn't have anything new for the PSP since December, though... hell, they really didn't have anything new at all. No chance of ever getting a cheap Ratchet & Clank PSP.
 
Humm, wish I was working today to figure out what was going on. The email and documentation we got specified the start date as today. However, knowing Blockbuster's crappy computer system I am guessing it is glitched. I won't work again untill Thursday to get the skinny about what is going on with this sale.

Here is my quick story...

Went to 2 GRs and each one was a disaster.

The first one I actually walked away with a few games...

PS2 - Trapt - 7
360 - PGR3 - 15
360 - Saints - 25
360 - Godfather - 20

The manager called support and asked them about the games. Support said its a computer glitch they are working on it. The sale was slated for today. So according to the Store Manager at my BB, its a huge computer glitch. She manually discounted the games above.

Second store....

Know one knew anything about any games. Until they found the pull list. She said these should have been pulled days ago. The manager then said that she could not manually discount the games because the prices are ringing up correct in the system, even with totaling. I explained what happened at the other store, but she refused to call for confirmation. She did say one of the games rang up correct the other one isnt. However the Prey CE I wanted was marked 24 by mistake, the she decided to overide it in the computer and gave it to me for 12. DOnt know why she wouldnt overide anything else but the prey. I dont care I got prey ce for 12.

I walked away with...

LEgend of Zelda 4 swords for 14
Prey CE for 12.


Repeat, according to the manager and support, IT IS A COMPUTER GLITCH!

You're lucky, the manager at my store is an irate foreign lady who looks a lot like Borat's wife. She got so mad when she credited stuff off. That's why I have to be sure before I go back and try again.

A) I don't have a car right now to freely drive to any Gamerush I wanted to... this was pretty much the only morning I could get to both stores until Saturday.

B) There was only one Metal Gear Portable Ops and one Suikoden V between both stores... that was it. I guarantee you those would have been gone by Saturday, I'm not the only CAG in the area, and there's plenty of resellers as well. And I'm not about to drive 30 - 40 minutes to Clearwater and hope I get lucky... again, I have no car, so I'm paying gas money for someone to drive me where I have to go (in this case, my gf... gas isn't cheap).

It's much more easier for me to deal with a return / rebuy then search for these games again at which point they will probably be gone. Plus, at the first GR, the clerk had no idea how to even work a register so I assumed it was just an error on his part, and I was going to get the game marked down at the second GR because this sale was supposed to be going on.

But good job acting like a huge douche, though. :applause:

They were in a bin in the middle of the store - they Mgr said all the games that are part of the sale are marked with a blue sticker.
 
A non-clearance related aside. One of my nearby GR's got in Theme Park DS sometime in the last few days, so the DS titles continue to trickle in...for those of you desperate to use up your credit.

Still no Spectrobes though that I've seen - has anyone noticed it at their GR?
 
Guys, Just got back from my Lunch time GR run.

Went to two stores. The first store (the one I talked to the MGR at yesterday) had the games out on the 50% off fixture. Unfortunately, this store didn't have anything I wanted (that I didn't already have). This store has shipped out all their new PSP games, apparently, there was a huge hole where it used to be and only used stuff left.

Went to a second store, and they had not pulled a thing. BUT they did give me the list to look through. I picked up MGS: PO and WTF for PSP and they rang up at the correct 50% off price without any manual adjustment. Total was $30, as you would expect, so either not all stores are "glitched" or they fixed it somehow.

There are a TON of Xbox games on the list. Nothing notable in 360 that hasn't already been mentioned. Neither store had Okami which was something I was looking for.
