50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

What about Field Commander for PSP? Any of the Legend of Heroes games?

I don't know the complete workings of it, but most retail places like that get charged money for every void they have to do.
 
I went in today and they had shining force neo, Grandia 3 and a cpl other games nothing to big, was able to find and buy me and my katamari, if anyone finds harvest moon MM let me know im interested in it

I knew about that game already, I was just confused.

Anyway, I was checking to see if you were the fat middle aged man who basically screwed over everyone in Simpsonville at the Five Forks BB.

I was there, and went back again to see what else I could see, and this guy was hoarding all the games, about 20 of them stacked up and reading the UPC's off to some guy on the phone. He had the game I went back to look for, and took EVERY decent game on the shelf. Took every copy of Saints Row, Godfather, good PS2 games, etc. He went to counter w/ about 15 games, and I heard him say to the guy he was on the phone w/ that he was heading to Taylors.

I know he's a CAG, and I'm just curious who he is. If you are reading this, stop being selfish by cleaning out all GR's and not leaving anything for anyone else. I know you are just going to re-sell them on eBay.
 
Well, I got DQVIII for $10 (just recently decided I will be getting a PS2/3 in the near future, so had passed during the first clearance round). Unfortunately, that's all they had at this store from my short list. No Tales of the Abyss, no Suikoden V, Okami, etc. In fact, they had removed the clearance table, putting a B2G1F used game table there instead. They had put some of the clearance games on the endcaps, but nothing exciting, and it was probably all older stuff.

Quntox - I doubt it was Lord Alfred as he says in his post that he *could* go to this Simpsonville GR if anyone wanted (though it sounds rather pointless now). I swear it wasn't me, despite the fact that I may be considered "middle-aged" by some here - in any case I'm not fat. Besides, I'm 2500 miles away from there ;). But how do you know it is a CAG? If it is, there's a good chance he's just a lurker. We had a few of those hit up my GR when the first clearance started. Unless these things are hitting FW/SD now, which they never did in the past.

I was at the Powdersville location just a few minutes ago, and while the regular Xbox version was on clearance, the 360 version was still sitting in the "New Games" section with a normal pricetag. I did not have them check the last digits of the price, so it could still be a mistake. I have a list from Powdersville that I made, but I need time to type it up and such. It'll be up in a bit. That store had a good bit of PSP and PS2 stuff, including RPGs.

Quintox, I wasn't the guy that cleaned out Simpsonville. Haven't been to that GR in ages. Besides, I only buy to play, not for resale. There ARE hoarders in this area, though. They are quick to jump on the CC clearances and somebody cleaned out that Rhino in Taylors bright and early the day they discounted their old games prior to converting over to EB.

Thanks, I'd really appreciate that so I can "budget" and figure which ones are worth asking other CAG's to get. Hopefully these games aren't all getting hoarded up so quickly (and are at least around tomorrow). It never used to be that way with GR!

It just makes me kind of agitated, no need to buy 5 copies of Saint's Row, both Table Tennises etc.

I know her... that is the "beast", as she is called, the one who ALWAYS used to give me shit during Gamerush's glory days about trading in games, and how did I know which games gave good money, and I must be some "insider spy" and "a scam artist". She really is a bitch.

Why the hell aren't our Gamerush's doing this sale?

At this point, I really don't know what to do, or why only our stores aren't taking the 50% off... as you've pointed out, there is NO WAY to convince these stores.
 
Went to the Powdersville, SC BB/GR. They are on top of the sale, all games were on the clearance table and marked. This store has a good mix of games. I made a list. Hopefully it will help somebody. I'm not going to check against the list from the first sale, these were just some of the games I saw that somebody might be interested in.

I'm trying to figure out why my Gamerush's aren't participating in the 50% off sale while everyone else's are. There are quite a few CAG's in my area who want these games, and can't get them.

Since there are many Gamerush "insiders" and a few employees, I'm trying to figure out why this "glitch" wasn't fixed for my area, so yea, this does in fact pertain to the sale.

I'd love to confirm games and prices, espicially since I was the first one out to a GR this morning, but well, I can't. Botticus told me I should just call the regional office and explain to them what is going on... has anyone dealt with them on anything like this?

Easy way around this... just say you got an email the night before and pictures of those games were in the email. I say this all the time and I am never questioned.

But, It did take me 30 minutes to get the games this morning. I'm on the East Coast and was among the '1st wave' of people buying the games. They had the games pulled and on a cart behind the counter but they could not get them to ring up. The manager was on the phone w/ the help desk from 10:10 to about 10:40 trying to get it fixed... then he just used a calculator.

Pretty much everything has been listed that I went through on the cart... I did see a few that I don't think have been mentioned:

The problem is that this manager is a stickler for Blockbuster policy... this wouldn't work. This is the same manager that, years ago, called me a thief, a liar, and a scam artist.

Did you go back to your GR since this morning? I'm just curious to see if anyone else's stores that did have the problem, have it fixed. I might just go and snag a copy of Yakuza and see if it rings up 50% off and go from there, but I gotta be pretty sure.

If you have an employee that is consistently rude to you, call up the regional manager and file a complaint. I guarantee that after a complaint or two, this employee will be kissing your ass if they value their job at all.

I found a whole lot of nothing in the L.A. area. Silverlake Gamerush had a copy of Tomb Raider Legend for Xbox but I passed since it's not even backwards-compatible (what the hell?!). I figure, if I want to play this game in the distant future, it'll be even cheaper than $15.

I don't know if anyone else got hit with the games not ringing up clearance prices, but if you did, just talk to a store manager.

One Gamerush I called told me I "better have a good reason to return / rebuy", "games change prices every week" and "it sounds like I'm just wasting their time... even if they are clearance, they won't sell them to me for clearance prices".

Wow.

The next Gamerush, a semi cool one here, as soon as I started explaining it the employee went "and they didn't ring up clearance prices, and they didn't adjust them, did they?" He went and talked to his manager, came back, and told me to come in tomorrow when they open, and the store manager will fix everything, and apologized a few times and that they were having computer problems this morning.

Apparently a few people in my area bought games at the non clearance prices, because the guy said he's had a few calls about it tonight.

So if anyone in the St Pete / Tampa area needs to adjust games, head down to the 4th Street N Gamerush at 10am, since apparently the manager is only going to be there in the morning, and he is going to fix everything.

went to first store at opening and nothing was ringing up half off. asked manager if he had a list. he did and he manually took half off of the prey:CE for 360 and me and my katamari psp....

second store one hour later had games ringing up at half off automatically...wound up with

Saw all of the usual suspects in the Lewisville, TX area. Most weren't marked as discounted. I was hunting for Marvel Ultimate Alliance for 360, hoping it would be 75% off.... SORRY, still $30. Bought it anyway, as I'm jazzed about being able to play as Hulk and Venom next month when the DLC becomes available : ) On a side note, the used version of MUA was still $50.

So, looks like at least some items that were marked 50% off long ago are still the original 50%... no additional discount.
 
I stopped by a couple of GR stores yesterday. I picked up Ace Combat Zero for PS2 for $20. The largest selection of new games added to the clearance were XBox games. Did anyone see copies of Final Fantasy V for GBA or Mario Party 7? I would really like to get a copy of MP 7.
 
My store had nothing put out yesterday...and the 360 games are usually locked away somewhere, and I didn't feel like asking. OR maybe they were all gone already. Not a big deal as I don't realyl want much anyways.
