50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

Actually, my friend if you have a GS with used copies that are $17.99 and use the Edge card for 10% plus an e-mail coupon that is on here for another 10% you would be able to get EA for $15.25 before taxes like I did with three copies that I obtained.

Also, I have enough Blockbuster/Gamerush stores within 20 miles of me to spread out about 20 copies if needed but I wouldn't go that far with it. I have only traded in 5 copies plus some older games to get about 245 bucks worth of credit which I will be putting toward Halo 3, Stranglehold Collector's Edition for PS3, and Guitar Hero III for the Wii.

I already know that it is in the system because I am cool with some of the employees at a local Blockbuster that gets all the new video game releases for sale. It all depends on your store because most Blockbusters probably aren't going to get it but they should be available at Gamerush. If you have a nice store manager and mess with them enough they could ask coporate to send a copy or two of this to your local store.

They've been that price for a while, it's only the PS3 version that sells and trades high at GR.

DDR Universe for the Xbox 360 is available for $11.xx right now at Circuit City, so if it still trades in for $28 (according to a wiki entry from July), could be a good flipper, if you've used up all the Enchanted Arms in your area!

360 Meet the Robinsons is also $11ish and got $22 last month, I think those are the only CC titles worth flipping, unless Superman Returns, which we don't have a price for, turns out to be a hidden gem.

Also, the $10 Halo coupon is something they will be sending to their online Blockbuster.com cusomters apparently.
 
Man it would be nice if GR got GH3 for the WII. I better start bothering the people at the store to see if I can help influence the ordering... make 'em an offer they couldn't refuse. You know what I'm sayin'?

Well, they are a rental outfit. It wouldn't be a big deal to shift one of the rental copies to a sale display copy, and there doesn't need to be a special copy from the publisher/distributer.

Both times I have purchased the 'last copy' of a new release at the regular BB, they were sealed. They then removed the display copy from the floor.

I hadn't thought of that, good point. Next time I'm there I'll ask for sure because it would be a good source for the newest game releases, especially if GC hits hard times. But damn, that means I need to build my credit back up again and I'll probably miss the EA train ;).

Has anyone checked Pac-Man World Rally (PSP) recently? I can still get those for $5 from Best Buy. It got $15 in June. I'm always liking those triples ;).

I just called GR, and EA is still holding at $33. DDR Universe for the 360 gets $22, and Virtua Tennis 3 for the 360 gets $19.

Stopped at one of the local GR's today. The employee I spoke with who normally has a good idea of what's going on filled me in a bit. Nothing new just more of the same thing we have been hearing.

GR's are being scaled down to GR lite's is the way he described it. There store is already scaling back. Two aisles / four rows of new/used games have been shipped out and condensed down. He said they were still going to be getting new games, but hardware shipments were slowing down lately. He also had heard BBV would be carrying / preordering select new games for the fall sort as a pilot program.

Now the weird thing is when I asked him for some gamecube trade in prices he said they weren't really excepting them anymore. I pressed him on it and he said they were really only accepting Wii/360/PS3 games as trades. No PS2, NGC, Xbox, GBA, PSP, or DS games. I asked him a few more questions and said what if I want to trade in madden 2008 for the ps2. He said they may take it, but it was up to the manager. So it basically sounds like they just condensed the game area and the store manager doesn't want to take anymore trades on old systems. The employee said they had space issues and the old used games aren't really selling anymore for them.

It's on clearance at Circuit City for $16.96, and with the current 33% off all clearance games, it would be a good one to flip.

They're $19.99 at CC. You missed the 2 for $30 deal, so you'd be spending about $21.xx on each to turn into $33 credit...so its up to you if that's worth it.

That is indeed tempting, sir! You could potentially get an Elite or PS3 for about half price if you're prepared to do the legwork. Also worth mentioning are Wii Ice Age 2 and Happy Feet, also in the $11.xx club, a couple of potential winners there. I won't be able to get to a GR till the weekend, so if any brave soul wants to check those Wii trade-in values (as well as 360 Superman), it'd be much appreciated.
 
Well, I didn't check any of those, but I got quotes for some PSP games.

Pac-Man World Rally: $12.50
Ape Escape Academy: $7

You can get both for $5 at Best Buy if you can find them in the frontlane displays AND get them to take the expired $5 off coupons (which still work automatically - you just need to get the cashier to scan them).

I'm adding these prices and also updating all the other prices reported here.

Yes, but it may be only this week - though it isn't in the ad so who knows, maybe it is permanent. I'd definitely check before Sunday though just to be sure.

As IO pointed out its unadvertised and who knows for how long. CC has never done this in the past, normally the games drop in increments of $4 every few months. Its 33% off games ending in .96. JDawg compiled a list from the Neocisco's monthly CC clearance threads.

Thanls for the CC prices....I may have to stop after work today. I have to go to GameRush anyways today...was going to trade in NCAA 08 and CoD3, so if I can pad it with a few more, that would be nice. Although, I may want Far Cry to keep if CC has it cheap enough.

Whoa! All pretty nice ones there. Ehh, Robinsons maybe not, but I'll probably pick one up and flip it just for the hell of it. That is, if my GR has a non-inept employee working tomorrow- I went in there tonight to flip an Enchanted Arms, and neither of the two employees in the store knew how to do a game trade, so I had no choice but to leave. Yay for employee training!
