50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

Q: If I ask something that is clearly laid out here in the OP, will shipwreck make fun of me?

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

Don't think anything can top Dead to Rights II. I can't tell you how many of that damn game I traded in during the trade 2 get any preorder for $29.99. Xbox version was getting $30 and you could get 3 during the b2g1f deal at TRU for $20 total. You could turn $40 into $240 with ease...

If you stacked them with 6 crap games (powerdrome was worth $11) you could ended up with 6 paid preorders and still have about $60 left...
 
Gwen, it took me a while, too, but I think he is listing a bunch of old "dead" trade-in gems (ie, homiez ;)) from the past. I know that I've traded most of those games in to GR before.

And kojubat, are you saying you picked up a Bioshock from a non-GR BB? I'm thinking not because you mentioned preorders. When I say I hope Blockbuster gets more than Madden in, I mean a non-GR store. The only new game my local store has for sale is Madden (though that's an improvement from a month ago when they had no new games for sale). I don't have a GR any more...

I think DDRU will still go from 16.96 at CC to 28 or 32 or something and somebody posted they saw it 8.96, but that may be YMMV. If not 9 to 28 is good enough for me.

I think atlanta must be one of the last strong Gamerush areas. Use to make for strong credit building. There are 10 within 20 miles of my house.
 
Thanks for the memories everyone. The Drake of the 99 Dragons days are when I started trading at GR. That'a also when my local BBV turned into a GR. Great timing! All those games Cheezwiz listed were good tools for me. So this EA opputunity has really been like a walk down memory lane.
Does anyone remember what day of the week the trade in values usually drop?

Sorry to hear that :( . The GR section or the whole BB store? I haven't gone to that one in a while but 3 or so years ago it had a killer used section. The used sections of the 2 I tend to frequent (Peachtree City) are now pathetic.
 
I went to one of my local CC's and managed to find the last 2 EAs hidden behind a sports title. Got em for 30 and flipped em for 66 along with about 25 bucks more worth of my own old ass used games.
I gotta make sure to check tomorrow to see if they drop the price or not, to see if I should go check another CC.

I called them back when I was converting credit into a DS Lite. I called EVERY GR in the ATL metro area and a little beyond to find a store that had a DSL that was not pink about three weeks ago. They said they weren't even a GR anymore at that point and that they were closing the BB side sometime soon.

My bad, I should have written that a little better. I eventually found the very last non pink at a GR in the area in Hiram and after Guin said that the GRs around her had last received them around Christmas I made the drive and snagged it. Of course, a week later onyx ds lites show up. Meh, I like the white just fine.

Good lookin out though. By the by, where would Crabapple BB be?

I went by it Friday night and it was closed and they had moved out and I really doubt to another location either. Then again that section of town isn't doing real well economically (based on closed shops and numurous pawn shops) so that may be the reason it closed.

Yeah I go to both of those stores too. And you're right, not much there. In fact, at least at the Braelinn store they are probably closing the GR section in the next few weeks. Better go now and get what you want because I have a feeling it doesn't have long to live.

The Crabapple location is in Roswell near the Silos. About 8 minutes from 400 or 15 minutes from 575. The store seems to get restocked more then other stores since there isn't a store around the corner to get games at. The same can be said with the town park store off 575 exit 8.

Damn its like the Atl thread moved in here...

(and by the way, it is wierd how I have connections to these other far-flung places - I lived in the KC area for several months in 2000 and I work for a company based in Atlanta)

Anyways, good to hear they are semi-robust in the Atlanta area. I WILL make another trip for work there again (last time was May 2006). FWIW, I was very disappointed in the GR stores I saw there in relation to what mine was at the time. Mine really was a VERY nice store - it was designed with GR in mind (and not a regular BB with a GR shoehorned in). Of course, that was part of the problem - the place was too big and their lease was too expensive. Plus the shopping center expansion they expected never happened due to traffic concerns so the place was always fairly quiet. Now they've just ceded an entire area to Hollywood/Gamecrazy, which is OK (it is a decent GC) but I preferred having both!

Sigh. Lucky you! All of our Atlanta area Blockbusters (AFAIK -- I can't think of any new stores) are all older units thus the GameRush stores were "shoehorned" in and none were very big. I sure would have liked to have visited a "real" GR!

Once again, I really hate it GR stores/sections are closing. I've probably bought $200 of games from there (actual buying -- no flipping) and have gotten AMAZING deals!

Waves back :) . Braelin's location was my favorite; the one at Crosstown is always a mess. Sad to hear it's closing. I got my 360 on launch night at Braelinn :( .

Yes, I am. It's a hole-in-the-wall Blockbuster smack dab in the middle of tourism. It's physically closer to me than the GRs in my area, though. On a whim I stopped in and asked on the release day, and I got the last one. (Could have been the only one, but I didn't ask.) I figure I can finish it within the next week and trade it in to GS under a promotion to recoup the two flipped EAs I picked up with credit and the 10% coupon.

The same regular BB had two copies of Madden, and my friends wiped them out. I'm tied up at the moment, but I can call them later to see if they got a reorder in.

No luck on Madden restock (just to see if they did it, not any kind of interest in the game), and they did not get Blue Dragon 'yet'. So the regular BB is expecting it, anyway.

Didn't think to ask about Metroid.

i've been following this thread for the last couple weeks, and getting especially concerned about the possibility of all GRs closing. so i decided it was high time i cashed out all of my store credit before the GRs around here were axed as well, leaving me with $400+ in credit and no hardware to spend it on. i put it all toward a new 60GB PS3 :)

now i just gotta figure out how to get the 5 free blu-ray movies.

Pay $80 for 4 Enchanted Arms from GS
Trade them in for $152 at FYE.
(price drops for EA @ FYE - fast forward to today)
Buy all 4 copies back for $32 total
Trade them to Blockbuster for $132.

So overall, i spent $112 and made $284. Not a bad deal in the long run. I'm waiting til i get some more FYE fodder before i get some more Enchanted Arms. I just wish Blockbuster sold new Blu-Rays (turns out the local Gamerush doesnt, "yet"). Blockbuster's site sells BR/HD's at a decent rate ($5-8 higher than Amazon rates for new discs). Unfortunately the Value Card doesnt seem to work with their site. Does BB allow people to use the value card to buy gift cards? I knew they didnt used to, but not sure if they do now.

Stopped by my local GR an hour later with them in the BB bag and asked for the TiV. Not only were they $33 each tradein, he let me trade both of the same game in right there. wahoo.

Dance Dance Revolution Universe 360 is down to $22 TiV. Not sure if that's a new drop or older. It's better than FYE which has dropped from around $30 to $5.

I asked about metroid yesterday and it appears they won't get it until Friday. Their release date in the computer is 8/31. That's fine by me because I still have a lot of Bioshock ahead of me.
 
I have a non-CAG friend who I told about the EA flip deal at GR. His goal was to get a PS3. Within 3 days he's gotten very close to his goal. Needless to say, he's a CAG now!
 
Don't know about Metroid, but I was in GR yesterday and was shocked to see both Two Worlds and Stuntman: Ignition on the shelves for rental. Seems like they are starting to get in new releases in on the same day as other stores (instead of the Friday after).

Is he also grabbing them at Best Buy? I'm assuming they're still $29.99 in their system and some stores have just physically marked them down to $9.99, right? I checked 2 stores near me last night and the 07's were still marked $29.99. If my stores are just lazy in updating the tags and the games will actually ring up at $9.99, I'll be heading back there tonight.

In this case, EA means Enchanted Arms, not Electronic Arts. And the one that works is the PS3 version (not 360). Best bets to acquire is either via two copies for $30 at Circuit City, or through coupons and EDGE for a used copy at Gamestop. Still, even at "full" price anywhere else, you're making a profit.

And yes, it should work at any GameRush or BlockBuster that accepts trades.
