50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

I was going to do this deal, but I ran into an unfixable (for right now) bug during a theives' guild mission, and now cannot progress anyfurther in the guild, so I kinda lost some of the "pull" this game had on me.
 
See that my Oblivion thread was merged with this one.

Sometimes I think really good deals deserve there own thread as not everyone looks at the GR/BB thread. So they'll go off and pay more for Oblivion than they should....Oh well.

Not sure if you already aware but Oblivion is $14.99 at KMart. You need to find a store that has clearance games. Some stores that are selling games at regular price still have it for 59.99

All Kmart stores have clearance games, and most do not have Oblivion for $14.99. That was a lucky find for a few people, not a standard price drop.

Yep, still $59.99 at my local K-Mart. But then again my local K-Mart sucks when it comes to clearance deals.

It's still probably worth it to trade used EB/GS copies for a $15.50ish profit after edge card & tax. Of course, all of the copies near me have been bought up.
 
Saw oblivion for PS3 marked at 24.99
Not sure if it was a price mistake or they mixed up with the 360 version.

"All Kmart stores have clearance games" - Not true. I know of at least one Kmart which never has clearance prices on games.
You may be right about 14.99 being a lucky shot as I haven't seen many reports of people getting oblivion at that price.

Gamestop has a coupon this week for Eragon for the 360 for $10.

CAGwiki shows the Gamerush trade-in value at $19, as of last week.

I assume the BB stores like my local one who have been test markets for limited new game sales are performing better than GRs.
 
Saw the Guitar Hero rocks the 80s game in GR today if anyone was looking. Also found an Xbox Outrun 2006 Coast to Coast which I was going to buy, but turns out they didn't have the disc for it, all they had were three regular version Outrun 2s. Gaaaah.

Anyone know if the trade in value of eragon 360 is still $19. Might be worth a trip to gamestop if it is. Eragon $9.99 with coupon. With a used enchanted arms as well it actually could be worth the trip...

This conversation should be continued in the K-Mart thread - nevertheless, just because you've never seen a clearance sticker at a K-Mart doesn't mean the games don't ring up clearance in their system. In reality, the K-Marts that "don't clearance" are the absolute best, because that $49.99 game that everybody passed over is actually $7.99 if you just have them ring it up...
 
does anyone know of any current games @ GR/BB which make good credit transfers to Gamestop? I have some credit @ GR that is quickly becoming useless and I would be stoked to get rid of it. PSP games perhaps?

I haven't been to Gamerush in over a year. Are they still terrible at getting games in on time?

I have some games I want to trade in for Bioshock, but not if they'll get it a week late or not at all.
 
I haven't had credit for awhile, but the store I go to always has a nice selection of new wii, 360, and ps3 games...

Hell they even have 3 copies of guitar hero II for the 360 there....

I have ~$50 worth of credit I was saving just for this game. I tried to pre-order and was told 'no - It's a Mario game, don't worry about the preorders because we will get a ton of them'. So, when it's released I go to get a copy and I am them told that I should have preordered it because they only got in 2 copies they went to pre-orders and because it's already out they can not order me a copy. So, I vent in the saleperson for 5 minutes and they decide to vent back about how crappy BB is and that they keep cutting their hours... on and on... My son sort of understands and I tell him I will get it for him as soon as they get it. Weeks pass and no Mario Strikers so I head to another GameRush about 30 minutes away. GOLD! They have 3 boxes on the shelf. We stand in line for 5 minutes, get to the register, and they don't have the game! It's sold out... so, I give up on these sorry bastards and go to a Gamestop next door and drop $53.00 on Mario Strikers.

So... to answer your question. I don't think they have any! :) And I don't think they are going to be around much longer...
 
^^ Ha, when my GR was around I made sure to preorder anything I had any slight interest in. They STILL didn't get much of it in, despite my preorders. Or at least from about last Fall until they closed in March it was that way (they used to be pretty good before that). Note that this store didn't close because of any GR-related decision. It was just a bad site for a Blockbuster (the whole store closed). I do miss my late night stops in there though :cry:. It was a very nice store. And now I'm looking for a cheap DS for my youngest son and that would have been a great place to get one.
 
Well, at least they got it in in the first place. Suppose that means if I want to use the rest of my credit on the big name games, I still better preorder them. Unfortunately I have a not very round number of $72 there... guess I'll just put deposits down till I see what they actually get.

Has anyone else gotten refused on Enchanted Arms today? Called a store I haven't traded at in months, said they aren't taking it any more. Also, Eragon (360) is down to $7. Looks like I missed the boat on those two from last week (though part of that was intentional since I've gotten too lazy to drive around town flipping games).

Damn, I can't believe the trade in value has held this long. I've passed on tons of copies of this for $19.99 at CC, TRU, BB, etc... If my GR wasn't so depleted I might get in on the flippin'

Picked up my Madden 08 as well.

They also appear to have started a new promo with 25% off all used football games. At first I thought it was all games, but talked to the GM and it sounded like they're just trying to clear out all the used Madden 07s and NCAA 07s they have --- as well as anything older.

Wish ESPN 2K5 was backwards compatible for 360. They had a few copies for $4.99 with another 25% off of that.

They never have changed the trade in value, but all the district managers called and said don't take any more Enchanted Arms as of a few weeks ago because of the flipping.

It has changed a little bit. The value was $36 when EA first dropped, now it's $33. The last time I was there the game section at my GR was almost completely cleared out. Looks like they added more new release racks for DVD rentals. I'm hoping they start carrying blueray discs soon.

The N7 Hwy store in Blue Springs has started carrying Blu-Ray. They have about 30 on the new release wall and another 30 in an adjacent isle. Good sign, I am pumped.

Also, wherehouse music/FYE on Noland has 3 or 4 more $14.99 used Enchanted Arms if you want to flip a couple. They are marked $49 so I don't think they are going anywhere soon.

Hmm, not sure if you're talking about a specific area. My BB/GR stores are still taking them. I flipped two this week so I can pick up BioShock next week.

There are plenty of copies around, but I'm trying to restrain myself.
 
It's been a long time since I've posted here. Just wanted to add my 2 cents. As of 8/16 10 p.m, I also got $33 for Enchanted Arms. Going back today to trade in a second one. Hopefully the value hasn't gone down overnight!

It's pretty funny that their way of dealing with this is to not accept any more copies instead of just changing the trade price to $5.
 
Just got an email touting the fact that Blockbuster will now start selling new games - examples given were Madden, GHII expansion, and Mario Strikers. We'll see how this works moving into the fall release schedule.

Is this still a test market thing or did they make it sound nationwide? This would be excellent if so, especially as rumors of Gamecrazy's demise are popping up again. If this is going to happen even at my little small-town store, though, I wish I had flipped more EA when I had the chance :mrgreen:.

"Participanting stores," whatever that means. Since they're sending out emails a month or two after I found out about the test market at my store, I'm guessing this is relatively nationwide.

It's too bad I think I'm done with EA... I may give my Blockbuster a call, but since GameRush isn't accepting the game anymore, I'd be surprised if it wasn't the whole district.

Some of my local stores have already started. I was in a regular BB trading yet another Enchanted Arms about a week ago, and the manager was busy unloading a box of Wii accessories. She told me that GameRush is going away sometime soon, and that most stores would be carrying some new games and accessories. She also said that console sales would be restricted to certain stores. Apparently they've had a lot of problems nationwide with console theft, and they're planning to limit their exposure as a result.
 
Interesting how they advertize bringing in trades to use for buying "hardware and accessories". I got one of the 360 controllers my local store had, but then they sent the rest of them (and the PS3 controllers) away. I think these were transferred from GR when they closed and my local store didn't want to deal with them so they shipped 'em off. And they've never had "hardware". Hopefully things will change though - it would sure be nice. One of the former GR guys is at my local store now, I'll have to stop in and ask him if he knows anything about this. The other people there will claim they don't sell new games, and never have and never will (even though they did a year ago).

Anyway, I'm sure that little blurb pisses people off who were denied at GR trying to use trade credit to buy DS's and other hardware :lol:.
