50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

Was just about to report these as well. I can't believe how high those suckers trade. Microcenter had about 8 Wii movie based games for $9.99 for a month.

Well, no surprises here but just some confirmation of titles:

So this is another $87.50 credit which now I am at just over 200 bucks because I spent part of my credit last night on a Sixaxis controller for my PS3.

Funniest thing that happened is that I bought a copy of Meet the Robinsons Xbox 360 and when the clerk scanned it they wouldn't let me trade it in because they had too many copies of it already. They also wouldn't let me trade in the last copy of Enchanted Arms PS3 I had because the same clerk was told by her manager that they don't accept more than one copy of a game in a day.
 
Grabbed a stack at CC to flip. 10 games came to about $104 with the $15 off $100 coupon. Should turn to about $218 after the flip. Should come in handy with the upcoming releases. Have to say the idea of a PS3 for around $250 is tempting, but I think I have enough credit for now...

For the ATL CAGS I grabbed my stack from the cumberland CC they still have quite a bit of clearance games, but probably only 6 copies left worth flipping.
 
Just traded Call of Juarez for the 360 for $35. Considering that it is $39.99 new, that is one sweet deal. Take advantage now. Also traded Viva Pinata for $8.

They probably won't change the price for at least a month after the official drop because they are always slow to do this.

Do Gamerush take systems in anymore? I kinda want the Slim PSP, so I wont need my original PSP anymore. Gamestop is offering $100 credit, but i try to stay away from the Evil Empire as much as I can.

They haven't taken systems for about 10 months now around here. GS gives $60 for the PSP Fat and $100 for the new slim version. There is a $20 trade in coupon for the system, so you should get $80 for the psp fat if you trade it in there. I would sell it on cag instead if I was you...
 
Thanks for that nice little CC games list. That $105 into 220 credit is very tempting, actually about $13 more for me since they give me tax on trades for some odd reason. :D

Others mentioned that the tax thing depends on what state you're from.

I don't understand how this could be a "pre-order" deal if the coupon doesn't end up coming out until a few days before the game comes out.

It's the same as Madden but instead of getting $10 off, you get a $10 gift card with purchase. The email just mentions at the end that you can put $5 down to preorder.
 
My GameRush still takes systems. In fact I just traded in a PS2 and GC and they had a used DS for purchase.

By the way trade in values were:
PS2 (with contoler and cords): $28
GC (with contorler and cords): $15

The value is crap but I just want to get rid of them cause they aren't doing any good for me and selling them online is worthless as shipping kills it.

In addition, I was with my sister who works for Blockbuster so we were chatting with the manager and I asked abuot how they were scaling down the Game Rush section and if they would continue to sell new systems (ie PS3, 360, Wii) and she said that as far as she knew they were. In fact they had multiple PS3, and had a Wii just the day before.

Yes, those are the GR trade-in values. I believe all of those games listed are on clearance at CC, and with the extra 33% off, it makes it worthwhile to flip some of them.
 
Yea they all should be around $12 after the 33% CC discount. I went today and not only could I not find the 15 off 100 coupons at the store but I couldn't find anything that had a decent trade in value.... My store has been picked clean.... At least I managed to get 2 EAs during the 2 for $30 deal last week. :D
 
I can confirm $26 for Ice Age 2 for the Wii - just got back.

And now I've heard about the 3rd or 4th different thing about my local store selling new games again. Now they are telling me they heard they would be, but haven't gotten anything yet. It sure would be convenient.

I also checked on a game I thought might have some possibility. With the amazing report of Just Cause for the 360 getting $35 (and of course I've passed on many of those at CC thinking it was fairly worthless by this point) (Edit - never mind, I am always confusing Just Cause and Call of Juarez for some reason. Just Cause only gets $15), I thought I'd check the regular Xbox version (since it is $5 at Best Buy). Good ol' wacky Blockbuster - that one gets $2.50 :lol:.

I bought a couple of games at CC yesterday including Ice Age 2 and Meet The Robinsons. The profit on MtR is definitely not enough, so that's going back. I wasn't even sure it was worth it for Ice Age 2, but I figured I'd do one, anyway. $11.36 -> $26 just doesn't seem worth it for the fairly useless credit I'm getting. At BEST, I might be able to get a new release or two from the store 10 miles away (and hope they aren't gutted copies). But still, paying close to $25 for a new 360 game is barely worth the hassle (note that I would wait till most are $30 or less MSRP before buying them normally - and THEN buy them with credit to make the real cost $10-$15 or so). Now if I still had access to hardware I might be into this a bit more. I might get the new slim PSP or even a PS3 with "double" credit. It is just different for games, though.

Yeah must CC's pull the $15 off coupons off the front registers as soon as you can actually use them. However check the firedog registers or other areas away from the front of the store and you might find a stack. Ask at the front as well and they might go to the trouble of getting you one. The coupons are on a piece of paper about the size of a cd case...
 
If you're planning to sell that 20gb PS3, sell it to me. I'm 99.9% sure I'll be able to offer more than what GR will offer you.
 
Apparently, most, if not all Northeast Ohio Gamerush stores are being closed down with a target of the next 3 to 6 months. The three closest to me, Stow, Cuyahoga Falls and Macedonia are all confirmed to be closing. The district manager says most, if not all other stores in the district are closing. Some stores will be replacing Gamerush with......FedEx. Wow.

Have to agree with IO if you can't get new games flipping is pointless. I figure I can burn the credit I now have over the holidays. At least stores in the area seem to still be getting new copies of most next gen games.

This is the sort of scheme which makes me wonder, is there really a need for more FedEx shipping locations? But I still wonder if there's really a need for so many cell phone shops and kiosks every where you turn... and apparantly there is. So who am I to ask?

Once again, you are inside my head readin' my thoughts ;). I was just complaining the other day that my little podunk town got yet another cell phone shop put in. I think there's 2 or 3 now - at least one for each side of the main traffic light ;). Yet we can't have any decent lunch places 'cept fast food (was hoping for an Einsteins or Baja Fresh or something half-decent).

Anyway, if anyone sees their little local Blockbusters get Oblivion GotY edition let me know. Gamecrazy just called to let me know my preorder is in. But I'd rather burn $60 of my BB credit than my GC credit (at this point - may regret that if they fold up TOO).
 
too bad all blockbuster prices are not the same and they dont do price adjustments. 3 games i grabbed for 14.99 to 19.99 are now 9.99 at another store : (

Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 for Wii trades in for 26.50. This is a great price for an older game, and with the new one coming out in two months there's no excuse not to unload it.
