50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

Q: If I ask something that is clearly laid out here in the OP, will shipwreck make fun of me?

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

So I'm a town called Elgin outside of Chicago. I've been to two BBs today, no GRs. Asking the kids who worked there there aren't any nearby. All month no GR trade ins? This is horrible.

Don't know why that just reminded me, but I loved Finagle a Bagel out in Boston. They had this awesome spinning blade that would slice your bagel and then shoot it down the line to where you'd have it buttered or toasted or have a sammich or sumpin' put together. Haven't seen one of those since.

I'd rather have a Mod who participates in witty banter than one who just deletes posts anonymously (not referring to anyone else, just saying I think Gwen is a fine mod).

And besides, I brought up bagel places. Hell, if Blockbuster is going to start replacing GR with random off-the-wall sub-stores we might as well speculate on better choices than Fedex. I think bagel sandwich places would be a much better idea.

As for GR, anyone brave enough to check some more prices? I have another Ice Age 2 and may use that $5 of coupon to snag an EA at Best Buy if it still holds at $33.

Possibly because it is a far better idea than some of their current & past attempts at revving up GR traffic and sales.

EA has to be one of the most dramatic drops I have ever seen at GR. When I was in yesterday I was curious to see what type of inventory they would be getting in on Heavenly sword. They were getting 4 copies to sell, not bad.
 
Heh, thats too bad it dropped. I have $320 in credit, I'm really hoping they will be getting new releases. I called a few GRs and some are getting GH3 bundle, others are not. Halo 3 at all of them. RockBand at none of them.

There are plenty of games through the rest of the year I want, but no more credit for me for awhile.

Oh fuck I have one I opened ready to trade, too - I posted this before, but I actually took that one into a Gamerush, ready to trade - BUT NEITHER OF THE TWO EMPLOYEES THERE KNEW HOW TO RING UP A TRADE, so its just been sitting in the car, ready for the next GR trip in the hopes that I might find a competent employee. And now its trade value is in the shitter.

Damn that pisses me off. Now I've got an opened copy I can't do anything with. I mean, obviously game trading is not high on blockbuster's list of priorities right now, but jeez, don't offer the damn service if you're not going to tell the employees how to do it!

So, suggestions on what to do with an opened Enchanted Arms? I already have enough coasters :)

Edit- a quick look at the wiki shows that Gamecrazy are giving $20 for Enchanted Arms (that is an up to date price from 2 days ago), so that's a good option if anyone else has opened theirs.
 
I opened one as well. I guess ill just keep it for my game collection as it is a really good game (despite all the bad reviews).

Can anyone confirm DOAX2 (360) and Happy Feet/Ice Age for Wii?

i check my CC and all clearance games are cleaned out... greedy person probally ebaying them cause i was told that a guy comes in to CC every other day to buy the good stuff :( too bad for me i guess...

"I/O"? Shows what you know ;). Trash the mods all you want, I could care less. I never realized how much venom there was for them until I went in to the OTT stuff recently (both for Gwen and former mod Shrike, amongst others). Since it is the "in" thing to do, I'll just stop coming to their defense I guess (except in extreme cases - see the Xbox Live card scamming thread for example).

I just think it was a little uncalled for with the "cleaning house" comment. If you knew what was going on (as neo suggested) you'd know Gwen was JUST made a mod in the last month or two. So, clearly, Cheapy knows the deal. And since when has the GR thread been chock full of critical life or death info? Unless there's a specific deal going on (which seem to be gone for good now) it is a slow, boring place. I'm surprised it is getting as much action as it has recently. I guess that's mostly due to former champ EA ;). I've been putting any trade-in prices in the Wiki, so check there and you won't miss any breaking price news. (And as always, thanks for the new price posts!)

You're making my point for me, Mods are meant to moderate, not ad lib. I'm not a mod basher, in fact when I saw her post I didn't think she was a mod, as the post was so OT that it took me by surprise, I thought someone was screwing around and pretending to be a mod. If every thread, especially a thread as old as this one became nothing more than a chat room, it would be of little value to those of us who subscribe to the thread waiting and looking for useful information. And I know your GR experience has waned, but I still have 3 fully functional GR's in my area (even though I can only trade at 1, due to the ban I received 2 years ago), so this thread still holds my attention. And here I am diluting the value of the thread myself. Sorry to y'all.

First topic was directly related to the thread (I was bemoaning the great TiVs, while I am currently out of town for the month and have no GameRushes within the area).

The second, third and fourth replies were just goofing around (like I said, I am who I am and I'm not about to change because I have some title under my name) and the final comment was related to a post in this thread which was spam, violated the CAG TOS and irritating the thread readers. I took care of it. So that was business-related.

so this thread still holds my attention.

No worries.

I prefer things to be open and honest so there are no questions about what happened and why. If I do something publicly on the boards that's causing problems to CAG, I have no problem with someone specifically calling me on it in that same thread or better still, a complaint in the CAG News Feedback Assistance Forum. If it's just a grudge against me and my posting style and personality, I'd think that belongs more in a PM to me and Cheapy. Or just me or even just Cheapy if you're the type who can't confront a person directly.

Hmmm, I wish my CC had some of those cheap Wii games to trade in. I'm currently up to around $200 in credit...I was debating whether to get a Wii or DS or just 360/PS3 games. I'll probably get the games, as the other consoles are just "eh" to me. At least that is 3 decent games.....which is rather depressing, all my credit on 3 games basically.

I've debated if I should just use my credit on games as well but I know I'll get a PS3 eventually so I figure I might as well get it when I have all this trade in credit.

Oh and honestly, you might want to get a DS, I traded my PSP for one about 3 months ago and it's really pretty cool. I hardly ever used my PSP but I play my DS quite a bit. If you can find a used one it will only run you abuot $100, so you'd still have $100 for whatever else. Just my $0.02.

Considering I've almost never paid more than $10-$15 tops for games, it still kills me to pay $70 for a game even though I actually paid much less than that for the trade ins. :bomb:

Wonder how many CAGs system's came from GR with flipping. My 360 premium and my wife's DS came from GR.

It's funny, but despite the enormous amount of credit I've built up and spent at GR, I got VERY few systems there. In fact, the only system I got from there and kept was my Onyx DS. I wasn't interested in the 360 when they first came out and by the time I signed up it was too late for a launch system. Then I *tried* to get a Wii or PS3 there but they never got Wiis before they closed in March and they got 4 PS3's and sold them all to one guy despite knowing that I wanted one (another reason I'm not too sad to see them go). I didn't even flip many systems from there (just a few red GBA SP's right before Christmas last year that they put on clearance).

So other than the DS, nada. I did get my 360 from Gamecrazy with a lot of credit built up from GR clearance games, so maybe that counts a bit ;).

For the longest time, GR was purely my source for brand new released games. Oh how I miss the days of getting all the new releases for $30 from their preorder deal :drool: (especially when they combined it with the extra $5/game deal). I have a hard time spending even cheap credit on full $50 or $60 games now (either at Gamecrazy, EB, or, if I can find any there, Blockbuster). But spending $30 (meaning real cost $10-$15) was a no-brainer.

Does anyone know if Blockbuster is renting the Oblivion GotY edition? Will we not know till Friday?

The most I can remember a game getting for real cheap was Red Ninja. It could be bought at CC for 10 bucks and traded in to BB/GR for $37.50. Actually, before they dropped the trade value CC had a sale that made Red Ninja like $8.50.
 
Bleh, my Gamerush is claiming not to get new games in anymore other than the select ones they advertise. No more pre-ordering either it seems.

I wanted to get the new .hack game, but no luck. I guess ill wait for the black psp slim to come out and hope they get one in.
 
I got my 360 on launch and a 60GB PS3 a few weeks after launch from GR with credit.

Also, what does the original PSP trade in for at GR? Just curious if it is worth it for me to upgrade. Although, the slim does not seem like a "real" upgrade to me.

Still debating if I want a DS.....I guess I really don't play handheld games much.

Bad trip to GR today, first time flipping Ice Age & Happy Feet. Here's my ridiculous story.

I walk in, ask kindly to check for the trade in value, $26 each, seems fair, I decided to trade it in. During the trade in time, he processed it... I as a Fatwalleter LOVE the Entertainment Books and noticed the new one was on sale. I decided to look through it, the employee even commented that they are great books.

While he was still ringing up my trade in, another customer was checked out by the same employee, so I was stunned why mine was pushed aside, but I let it go. After the trade in, I had X amount of credit on my card, I take maybe two steps to the side while checking my receipt, and ask him to check the balance one more time. He then stated I had X amount on the card, I suggested I would like to check and verify it. He argued no, it would raise fraud or something to that sort. I stated that every time I've traded something in, I always did this, which I really did.

Here's where the problem occurs, I only wanted to ensure there was no mix up of the giftcard since the gc number isn't stated on my receipt, I told him my reason and he clearly misunderstood me and thought I was accusing him of stealing. Then this raises my flag, why such an easy request he wouldn't do it?

We go on, he tells me that I am accusing him of stealing and I just want to verify. Its like going to the supermarket and not checking the bags AFTER you paid. Some people don't check, I DO.

He the REFUSES to do the check, and says to speak with the manager, obviously he isn't available. He then also threatens me by saying that he is going to FLAG the transaction for FRAUD. Two BRAND NEW games, which he opened to check, and he is gonna flag me?

He finally called another employee, which I've seen before and she was willing to check the balance for me. Which verified there was X amount on the GC. I proceeded by saying thanks and left.

I never accused him of stealing. I just simply asked for a balance, and that I've done it many times. He refused, which then raises suspicion on my behalf since I didn't watch him do the transaction.

Who should I report this to other than the "manager" which is probably the guys friend.

This all occurred at the Monterey Park, CA Gamerush. Employee: Nilo.

Please tell me if I'm wrong, but I didn't accuse him of ANYTHING. Nor did I really suspect him of anything, until he gave unreasonable reasons to reject my request.

The wiki currently has EA for the ps3 @ $9. Are you talkin about Enchanted Arms for the 360? (I assume you are, but I want to be certain.)
 
@AzN_BaLLeR - wow. What an unfriendly employee. Two GRs I went to recently had no problems trading them in -- took both of them sealed and no questions asked -- got in and out in a few minutes.

I never realized that though about giftcards -- I guess I should have checked mine.

Trading in sealed games could be a huge red flag. I know there are a few people here who do it, but I think the majority of us unwrap them before trading them in...
