50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

Q: If I ask something that is clearly laid out here in the OP, will shipwreck make fun of me?

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

I couldn't figure out why everyone was so excited about this. I read it as being $5 off $25, which is nice but nothing to get too excited about. Now I see it is an insane 5 for $25... I may have to try this at my local store. I know they have Bioshock used, amongst others... I wouldn't even care what the others were at that point.

This is crazy. It looks like people in my area (Florida) are using it... wtf?
 
So what are the 5 best games to use the coupon on for flipping? Halo 3, Bioshock, Orange Box...

I'm going to buy them at one Blockbuster and flip at another, hopefully. I'm in SoCal, I'll report on my success when I get back ~10ish.

I was thinking the same thing io. I read this as 5 DVDs for $25 and was thinking "so what?" my store does that all the time to clear out crappy old DVD titles that they ordered way too many of. I just noticed the 5 GAMES for $25! Holy crap! I hope this lasts until tomorrow so I can give it a shot. :shock:

Everything newish trades for $35-36 Bioshock, Strangehold, madden , tiger, darkness, lair, heavenly sword, metroid wii 30, a few I saw on the board today or scroll back a few pages and browse.

I think I am gonna go try this can't lose anything but gas and time I guess... I know one store that's loaded with top shelf games right now as well! When they ask and i'm sure they will i'll just say I just got the email tonight and was like wow what a freaking deal and came straight here after getting the email! I know it scans fine but wondering if it adjust as well.

Can't seem to get dvdtalk to send me a registration email.... someone please ask if the cashier adjusts the price manually or if the computer does it for them. Is that what they mean by no override? it automatically adjusts the prices down?

I guess I'll try to get Bioshock, Strangehold, Darkness, Lair, and Heavenly Sword. 9pm can't come fast enough.

I'm also going to use the e-mail story, i think that is the best.

Man, I'm all over this if it is true! C'mon confirmation. Won't be able to try it until tomorrow afternoon, but still, this would be great!
 
Headsup, someone on DVDTalk in Oklahoma got rejected saying the coupon was invalid. The store had a sign up. Definetly try this tonight if you can.
 
I dont know whether I should I go tonight or tomorrow. I even have $26 credit. That must mean I should go now, but if it does go through, it is like a 45 minute round trip....

Yeah, I was really surprised. I just stopped in to look at the used games since I was driving by, and it was in the glass case. I can't believe it hadn't already sold. They also had 60GB and 80GB PS3s and Premium/Elite 360s, but they always have those. I noticed that the 360s didn't have the bundled games yet (they were the actual console boxes, not the empty display boxes).

Even though this is a fantastic deal, I think I'm going to pass. I already use all the local Blockbusters for game flipping, and I don't want to draw more attention to myself with one of these coupons.
 
Anyone notice that the word "period" is incorrectly spelled as "preiod" in the text of the disclaimer. (4th line down). Looks like a fake. Pretty good, but not quite. Should have used spell check.

I went to the Game Rush in Norman, OK and sort of got denied. The employee had never heard of the coupon, so he went to call his manager. His manager told him not to let me use it, but that I could come in tomorrow and talk to him about it. I probably won't be able to get back out there until Wednesday. And no, I wasn't the person at DVDTalk who got rejected.

First time the guy was in awe. Kept saying no way it will go through but it did. He just shook his head and said I saved 200 bucks. Second store they had to calll the first store to confirm my new membership and they told her I was just at their store using the same coupon. I thought for sure that she was going to deny it but she said lets see if it scans. It scanned and she rung me up.

As I was walking out she asked me how many more of the coupons I had. It seemed like she was hinting at something so I gave her one and she said her son would love it. She then told me I had to go hitup all the other locations and proceeded to list them off to me

The employeee told me his manager had "warned " him not to take the coupon about two hours before I got there. Oh Well. It was worth a shot, sometime these thing work, you never know. Good luck to the others.
 
I pretty much got denied. The two employees never saw the coupon, and it scanned and rang up "correctly" in the computer, but they said they had to call some people. Twenty minutes and like 10 phone calls later I was told they would hold the games and some manager would get back to me tomorrow. I need to try this at another store where I know this one employee will just scan anything and won't check into things.
 
I am on the fence on this... I want to try it tomorrow, but I frequently visit the Gamerush near me and some of the employees are really cool. I would hate to get somebody fired for it or make the employees mad when they figure out the coupon is bogus for the next time I walk in. But the deal is just so :drool:. Decisions...

That's the GR I went to tonight. We must have talked to different employees, because the one I talked to had never seen the coupon. When he called the manager, he was told not to let me use it, but that I could go back tomorrow and talk to the manager about it.

I'm thinking the manager will probably try to find out where we got the coupon from, or something like that.
 
Go Go Go Go Go Confirmed! ERLANGER KY DIXIE HWY BEHIND WHITE CASTLE THEY OPEN TILL MIDNIGHT Fort Wright and Turfway stores closed at 11. I should have went DIRECTLY to Fort Wright if you local be there when they open tomorrow they have a ton of shit. Store I went to (erlanger) still has a few NG Sigma PS3, lots of Bioshock, madden 08, several other $35 trade value games but no Haloor Half Life 2(never seen a either at any store used),

As of sunday when I was browsing Fort wright had Tiger 08, madden 08, blue dragon, darkness, bioshocks, on and on of 35$ trade value games.. I never checked the PS3 section though. I dont have a ps3.... Wii section i'm not sure of either since I don't have a Wii YET.

Sorry i tried and tried but my camera phone and my digital cam are old and couldn't get anything but fuzz on receipt here is the games though with stickers intact and me with a wooden spoon up my ass.

Speaking of trade in credit, has anybody seen any Daxter or Star Wars PSP Bundles at Gamerush? I haven't checked yet but if I can get this deal off, the PSP should be easy to get.

I'm in the same boat. The employee's at my local GR are pretty cool and clue me into things when they can. Not sure how well this would go over. But holy sh**, that is one incredible coupon for those that get it to work. I'm sure it will be dead tomorrow (and my local stores have changed their hours and are only open until midnight on weekends).

What store did you go to? I got to fooling around here b4 I left and made it to Fort Wright as they were closing so struck out there. Left and went to Erlanger blockbuster and they open till 12. Some squirrelly looking kid behind the counter and some cute young chick putting stuff away. I went in and picked out 5 games and took them to the counter gave the guy the coupon and announced i was getting the deal of the year and started talking shit about my GF woke me up after she got the email from our blockbuster online membership thing. :roll: He got scared after he realized what I was about to buy and calls her up and she read the coupon and was like yea he gets 5 games for $25.... Then it sunk in on her and she got excited about how good of a deal i was getting and was all smiles. I changed the subject and started asking about if they ever get systems in and stuff to calm um down. They scanned the coupon it worked fine and then dude read how much i saved and they got excited again. :bouncy:

It was good times just be cool and remember they don't care they are not the daytime managers that yall gotta deal with tomorrow. ;)

OH yea.... for those nervous the coupon does not need an account active to scan i just read that post about someone worrying about their trade account and my receipt says Name: nonmember. I gave the kid no id or card and paid cash so they have no idea who i am. Of course thats YMMV depending on cashier.
 
This is seemingly an incredible deal, but my moral compass is telling me to refrain from this deal. Congrats on the killing that some of you are making on this deal, but this is a personal no-go for me. I still can't believe that it is scanning.

I don't see a spelling error. Someone mentioned the word 'period' was misspelled on the fourth line down but I don't see it unless it's a different word.

I agree that someone must have hacked into the system or something but it seems that all those who have gotten the employees to scan it, it has gone through.

Well, i was thinking about doing it but with all the coverage this deal is getting, there is NO WAY it is going to go through tomorrow. Damn, waited too long. I can just imagine the line outside Blockbuster when they open the doors, each person with a coupon in hand.

You are the crooked king! I am jealous all my stupid blockbusters closed at 11 and I only could do one store. I forgot about the Biggs but couldn't find it anyway and settled for Oblivion as one of the 2 games i'll be keeping. I LOVED the homerun pinball in that game but the game itself was weak. The other 3 games will turn into $111 store credit... You could have single handedly crippled your area stores if you'd gone for all credit building games!

Someone either screwed up big time or some disgruntled employee is trying to get back because I never dreamed this would have scanned when I 1st seen it... We are doing nothing wrong we are simply using a valid coupon. QUESTIONABLE but valid.:D
 
I really hope this coupon works for me tomorrow. I have 2 Blockbusters within 20 miles of each other. I need to get there when they open to hopefully have a better chance of this coupon working. Anyone get this to work in Kentucky/Ohio?

I wish my stores had more credit building games! All of the decent titles I picked up were pretty much the last ones the stores had. If I was strong arming employees into giving me an override because the coupon wasn't in their systems I would think this was questionable. I just can't believe its actually scanning valid!

If this coupon lasts until tomorrow my stores are in real trouble.

One of the reasons it was a mistake is that it doesn't have the manual! He didn't give me the discs and manuals until after I paid and he didn't know how to exchange a game while keeping the coupon valid so I just said screw it. I'm going to try emailing the company about purchasing a manual.

All of the other games that were missing manuals they just let me steal the one from rental copies which was nice. Oh well, at 5 bucks who can complain?





Maybe I should actually buy a 360 and wii now....
