50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

What makes us so sure this is a fake? I have a hard time believeing that it would last this long if it wasn't. I was contemplating doing this, morally.. but the more it goes on the more i feel that it's ok to do. Hmmmnn think I might try it, cause I'm seriously beginning to think this maybe legit. I don't see some guy being able to get there systems to accept a barcode otherwise.. the whole world would be in pandamonium.

Are you grandfathered in to an old Total Access plan? The current one out plan for $10 has a 2 exchange limit and only gives discounted game rentals.
 
Concerned about getting my local BB manager in trouble, I brought in the coupon, saying I wanted to use it, but was worried about its legitimacy and didn't want to get in trouble. Even after saying, "Are you sure?" a few times, the manager happily took it saying the system was taking it so he had no problem with it. Of course, the employees were chomping at the bit to get their own coupon.

I tried to at least put in a few non-new release titles. Here's my haul (all 360)

Not the most impressive list, but this REALLY helps for when I get a 360 next month. I could've snagged some PS3 games (NG:Sigma), but I really have no use for them outside of selling. Some decent Wii games for sale, but I had all of them already. Though, the guy behind me snagged all 4 Wii games and Sigma, so I guess it worked out. :lol:
 
Deal is dead with franchises. Just went there an hour ago, and the manager called customer service and said that it was fraudulent. I am pretty bummed out right about now. :(

Well, whatever the hell it is, it got denied. The guy didn't even scan the coupon. Just wasted half an hour of my time calling around until he told me that Phone Service said it was fraudulent. I wanted to argue, but I was too demoralized that I gave up after a few questions.
 
When scanned, the coupon came up as being expired as of YESTERDAY (10/15). I'm gonna try a few other places today, just to see. But I'm guessing the deal is dead.

Well, if true....then it is really dead. Apparently Blockbuster inputted the coupon into the system to be DEAD.
 
went to my bb near the office got the games i wanted ended up not scanning, manager told me to come back witht he full printout (which i cant) but with that unsucessful attempt, i will make a go for the few stores around town.

Store Manager got a good laugh - said 'this is a fake going around' scanned it and got an 'invalid barcode' message. He went on laughing to show his co-workers as I left the store. Yeah, that was a lot of fun. Glad I went to a store near where I work and not the one I go to near my house. Wish I would have seen the last 5 or 6 posts in this thread before I left to try my luck. I had a feeling it was fake - but oh well.

My coupon was page-sized. The barcode was about 4 inches, and it scanned perfect.
 
Who here wants to grab me some cheap decent PS3 games? :O Anyways, on a serious note, if anyones sees decent PS3 games and gets multiple copies hit me up with a copy of your tradelist.

I just posted in the other thread about this but here it is again

Went to the BB closest to my house (which has the best selection) and the guy on shift told me I couldn't use the coupon as it wasn't specifically put out for this region (MI).

Went to another BB and the employee told me they had never seen it before, but go ahead and give it a shot. So I picked up,

Bioshock
Tenchu Z
Madden 08
C&C
Hitman Blood Money

She had even called corporate to check it out and they told her it was fine, but can only be used once on each account.

Absolutely insane deal, saved $180.

I dunno if that was it or not.

I altered the coupon and it scanned fine twice in 2 different states. All I did to the original was to open it in MS Paint and CTRL+W to it was 300% horizontal and vertical.

But both transactions occurred before 1 PM EST, so that may have been the time of death...:cry:
 
I just called my cousin who's a manager at one...and he said they got an email about 20 minutes ago saying to not accept the coupons. But it sounds like corporate has taken it into their own hands and changed the experation date.

But I got in before the lock and came out with:

yeah i think it just expired for me, even though i went in at 10:00 pm pst. i really should have went last nite. they close at 1 and i had read thru this around 11:30; lazy me -.-

I don't understand how this is "fraudulent". It's not like someone could make it. It actually scanned in the BB computers so someone had to program it in.

They called their DM and he said he just got an e-mail 30-minutes ago about the coupon.

No Deal for me!!!
 
After getting the manager to okay it with his District Manager and a couple other stores, they scanned the games and then scanned the coupon, only to see, coupon expired 10/15. So either corporate changed the expiration date in the computers to combat the quicly spreading nature of the coupon, or whoever originally altered the coupon also changed the expiration date. Either way, deal is dead :cry:

ONE COUPON PER ACCOUNT. MAKE SURE THAT YOU'RE RUNG UP UNDER YOUR ACCOUNT. THERE IS A DEFAULT "NO ACCOUNT" WHICH IS ACTUALLY AN ACCOUNT BY ITSELF. IF YOU USE THE COUPON ON THE "NO ACCOUNT", NO ONE ELSE IN THAT STORE CAN USE THE COUPON UNLESS THEY SPECIFICALLY LOAD A PERSONAL ACCOUNT.

I went to one BB and the guy was like WOW! send me one of them he was all about to try it and some other person told him he should call somebody and see if it is legit the person that he called said I was just in his store and left b***hing that they wouldn't take it was not me. I told them that a friend sent to me and didn't no if it worked but would feel bad if I didn't try and it did. Before I left BB the guy told me what location to try said the person that worked there was stupied.
I went there and picked out 5 games when right before she rang me out I gave her the coupon Same respone WOW! I need me one of these read it rang 2 games out said I can't belive this is on 360 games read it again and finished the sale the other guy there that just started was joking and said I just got a steal.

It does suck because the first BB had all kinds of almost new good 360 and PS3 games.
 
I still wonder how this happened. If the coupon is a fake, it obviously must have been an inside job since the coupon actually worked in the system.
 
i was stupid to go to the crappy blockbuster last night. i actually had time to hit up both but i somehow thought the deal wold last. went to the other blockbuster at 10:40 and she said they got an email saying the coupon was misgenerated or something and they wouldn't take it.

DOH! last night i picked up lost planet, CoD3, saint's row, marvel: UA, and shadowrun, because that store had basically nothing.

the store i went to had 4 copies of bioshock, gears of war, oblivion, Perfect Dark, Virtua Tennis 3, and all these other games i wanted but no deal. Biggest regret of 2007: going to the wrong blockbuster.
 
I went to another Blockbuster, and I almost got another great haul. The guy scanned the games, and we talked about Guitar Hero, etc. He scanned the coupon, it didn't work. He entered the numbers manually, which had worked at the previous stores, but then he got an error saying it was "Invalid as of October 15," or something to that effect.

The other dude apparently had just checked their e-mail while this was going on, and he said that apparently it's a fraudalent coupon. I doubt this is true, but he said that someone apparently knows how to duplicate Blockbuster's bar codes, thus allowing them to create fraudalent coupons. If it's true that this came from some Kansas newspaper, then obviously that is bullshit.

Regardless, I still got two good hauls, and while I could be happier, I'm still pretty damn happy.
 
I'm gonna try at my local Charlotte area stores when I get off from work today @ 4. I'll post my success or lack of success later today.

I'll probably hit the TRU just in case though as I'm itching to pick up a few new games for my wife.
 
Bottom line, it was entered into the computer and it worked. That's nobody's fault. Not the customer's, the grunt employee's, or the manager's. The coupon was accepted and it was a legal transaction. The only person who has a problem here is the one responsible for this huge mistake.
 
Barely safe if what people are saying is true. If the cutline was 10:40, then I'm lucky to have waken up early and drove down to my Blockbuster and got Gears of War, Bioshock, Collector's Ed of Lost Planet, DOAX2, and Bullet Witch.

Well, the manager of Blockbuster called me back and told me it would only work at franchise stores and not coporate >_<

Can't believe I missed out on this, there are literally no good deals here in Pensacola..

Is there a way we can tell the difference between a corporate and a franchise store?

But I don't think it's possible to have a franchise-wide coupon, since most franchises are run by different people. They probably just said that so they could decline it at corporate locations.
